Dirty. They used a stinky (urine smelling), dirty, raggy towel (full of fur), to subdue my kitty. I don't think it was ever washed. Tne place smelled too like dog poo. I was very disappointed. I should have run for the hills, but my kitty was sick, and I'm out of work I went home and tried to clean the stink out of my cat, but the stink remains (sort of like the Steinfield episode, where you just can't get the stink out, no matter how much you tried to clean.) They took blood from her, and I think they did not do it very well, and she was a little bloody. I read some good reviews about this place, maybe it was an off day, so do your research before you send you pet there. ..and watch them... don't let them bring your pet to the back... who knows what they did.

Callinng the Humane Society is extremely frustrating. Takes a long time to get through. Service is good but if there is an emergency they can't accommodate you. Also why does it take months to get a dental appointment?

My dog "Kristian" swallowed a mango pit, and became extremely sick. He stop eating, drinking, & going to the bathroom. The first vet we visited gave is a quote of almost 5K!! I contacted the Humane Society, explained what happened, & they immediately wanted to see him. I took him in, and the staff and docs were very nice to my sick little boy. Before I was given a quote of how much it would be, they were already escorting him to the back. That took great care of him. And not to mention the surgery was half the price & they gave me a payment plan. I'm forever grateful for the Humane Society. Thank you very much.

I recently adopted a cat from the Humane Society of New York and I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of compassion and care the employees had for animals. The adoption process was much more thorough than I thought it would be but for good reasons. Bonnie (the adoptions director) took a good amount of time with me to get to know what my desires were in owning a cat. She was efficient and careful and helped me get the right setup for my new cat Midnight. They have extended help with Midnight since the adoption and I know I can rely on them for help if my pet ever needs it. They are genuine people who care for our four legged friends and though they may be constantly busy, it's well worth the wait.

I got turned down because I walked in with my cat who was struggling to breath simply because I didn't had an appointment. My cat is a rescued and I said that I didn't know if she was neutered, so they refused to se her. Wow. Thank God the Animal Medical Center us a few blocks away and took her there instead. At least it's an actual hospital, clean, and take pride in their facility. I don't doubt that the Humane Society provides quality care and u will continue to donate to them, but its horrible that they turn down animals.

All I can say is thank the lord that the Humane Society exists in New York City!!! :D. Our 9 year old Donskoy Duchess Zhuzha (Russian Sphynx) needed some major dental work and after 5 extractions and two days of rest she's already a changed kitty, no longer cries in the middle of the night and no longer chews her tail. In total we paid $435 ($300 op, $80 for bloodwork, $55 emergency consultation). The op is a standard price and includes extractions and post operative medication. I also noticed that they cleaned her ears and trimmed her nails, which was hugely appreciated.
I did a lot of research into this beforehand and I was being quoted (minimum no extractions) $800. Choosing the humane wasn't just about saving money it was also to do with the experience of the vets there. They don't sugar coat the issue and thy tell you exactly how you need to care for your animal going forward, which I'm sure a lot of complaints on here is because people don't like criticism. I read a review on here about a possible faulty heater - so I asked them to wrap her up in her blanket before she's placed onto heating systems to avoid direct contact against her furless skin. I checked her afterwards and here were no issues. Also this place is no frills for a reason- if they somehow manage to make a profit off the low price then think of that profit as a donation to their cause. We will be back their in the New Year forher annual check up and boosters. Thanks so much guys for looking after my little girl!!!

I was referred to the Humane Society by my Upper West Side Vet for a dental cleaning I went for pre dental blood work Aside from the difficulty getting through on the phone, it was well worth the wait. The staff are terrific. We saw Dr. Bernstein, He did a thorough exam, full blood work and exam. I highly recommend them and they are much less expensive for a dental cleaning which we will be doing this Friday.

This was my pets primary vet. Recently my pet was having a true emergency, best they could offer was an appointment in a months time. My pet would have died.
I feel that they should have same day emergency appointments, especially for returning patient's.
I am changing primary vet to someone other than this facility.

Extremely rude staff at the desk made my experience a living hell. I had been going there because of affordability, and the doctors are good. But if you need anything from the desk staff, forget it, they are overworked and bitter and inefficient. They kept yelling at me and taking their frustrations out on me for no good reason, and made my life miserable for a few days. The way the guys spoke to me really did a lot of mental harm. I am glad they are doing this job out of love for animals, but I want to say, please be nice to people!

My favorite place to take my pets. They are incredibly nice, friendly and caring, and remember whoever it is that I bring in. The most affordable place you can find and easy to get to. They treat exotics too, that's a major plus!

They may come across as inconsiderate or even rude given the number of patients they take in, but they are very helpful and professional with veterinary care (which is why you re here I assume?) They have a full clinic and charge a minimal amount. Highly recommend

Been going there for for years. Yes I've had bad experiences but I've had them with private doctors too. So far this is the best place to go for the money or go and spend thousands someplace else. As long as u take care of ur pet there are no major medical issues.

I brought my cat to be spayed and for all subsequent visits and exams. The entire staff is so kind and efficient and Dr. Yaron Schmid has always provided excellent care. Whenever I have questions, he answers them patiently and takes me through different treatment options for my cat. And of course, treatment here is so much less expensive than other vets we've been to. I love it here and will continue to come back.

It's a great place to get your fur kids treated ! The doctors care. They have plenty of experience and resources and really go all out to give you great care. I've never once felt like I was being nickel and dimed, which is a huge issue at a lot of other places I've gone to. If you want great care, with zero b.s., go to humane!

I wish I can give them 0 star. They are horrible.

I wish I can give them 0 star. They are horrible.
They don't care about your pet AT ALL. Forget about the 1-2 hours waiting time. They don't pick up the phone, don't give you the follow up call after blood test, and have no idea which medicine they are giving as they don't record any information in the computer (the software system that they use is called Avimark and I haven't seen any of the staff working in HSNY using it properly.) I don't even know the purpose of them looking at the computer screen if they are not using it!! It takes forever for them to prepare the medicine and to answer the email for making an appointment. I decided not to go there anymore because my ferret is old and she needs life long treatment + medication. I don't want my fuzzy friend get life long care from such place like this.

Excellent animal care. I ve been to other vets and they over-order treatments and over charge on medication. It s the opposite here.

I get caring vets who don t suggest extra services or over-medicate your dog. Also, their heartworm prevention (heartgard) and flea and tick medication (frontline) is the best deal around. Prices for visits and vaccines are fantastic.

Hopefully they are going to take care of my Bo.......

Hopefully they are going to take care of my Bo..... We have an appt. For June 13th. I have confidence in the Humane Society... So 5 Stars ahead of time....... I have three Cats that I've taken off the Streets when they were very small. All Shots and Medical Problems they go to the New York Humane Society. When you rescue a Cat from outside it comes with lots of extra problems like worms & ear mites. But they have always got us through everything. This Problem with Bo (our large Tom ) He has a lump on his tail. So on June 13th 2019 they took blood & a sample from the lump. But we were warned that if there was a problem with the lump. It is to close to his back to re stitch so the tail would have to go. I received a phone call just a few days later. The Veterinarian said the Blood Work is fine and the lump is a Benign keratin cyst that could never turn cancerous. Great News !!! Dr. Wells said if it's not bothering Bo to just let it go. Very professional staff

My Gizmo, was so very special chihuahua, loved him like no other. He was more than just a dog but a wonderful service animal. Gizmo was treated with care and given several chances to live despite his illness. I am so grateful to the entire staff especially the doctors that made it possible for me to have him eight wonderful years. I miss Gizmo everyday but I he will always be in my heart and in memories we shared. The Humaine Society made that possible, and affordable care they put the pet before the price

I don't think I got the hand held service I saw others get.
The original person I spoke to on the phone was great - very supportive and helpful.
The Veterinarian was very informative and helpful prior to surgery. After - at pickup time - I witnessed one on one in person education in the waiting room for 3 people picking up their pets. I was next, but I got called to the window to receive my instructions. The others received liquid oral medicine - my Baby has pills. Interesting...
Pill has her sleeping - trying to get her to eat.
I hope she received good treatment while in their care. Time will tell.

Did anyone say disaster? Brought my adopted cat there today for his first check-up. Nobody told me I had to present his rabies certificate in order for him to be examined... went through a frustrating hour of calling the shelter to have them email the certificate, in between rude calls from the vet inside the facility who insulted me every chance she got. The vet techs were running in and out with pets, paperwork, and credit cards. Seriously, maybe they should just stay closed until it's ok to have regular office visits. I'm giving 1 star only because the review won't post if nothing is selected.

Really affordable visits, pre-surgical work up and surgery! One must be patient when making an initial appointment but the benefits are worth it bc you're going to have a really experienced team of vets, techs and front desk personnel. Yearly vaccinations are also very affordable. I think i spent less than $80 in all mandatory NYC shots on top of the $40 appointment fee. Wait time depends on the vet you get. Some vets are friendlier than others but it's worth the wait. Dental surgery was less than $600 for everything including extractions (mine had 38 teeth removed,) antibiotics, pain meds and visit. You'll need initial visit, then a pre-dental visit which took weeks to get bc they're pretty busy but then they scheduled surf afterward-perhaps another week or so after. Good luck!

We have had the pleasure of going through two adoptions the The Humane Society of NY. The process can be challenging i.e. arms, references and so forth however they are looking on behalf of the welfare of the animals they place. Both adoptions they paired the perfect cat with us and we could not be happier.

Our first adoption was a special needs feline and he was the joy. With us for over 14 years he brought joy to us daily. More recently we were in search of a mature older feline yet were paired with a kitten of approx 7 months old. Who knew; he has been the perfect companion and is a valued member of our family. The staff truly does care for all their animals and we will always support them and their mission.

The humane society is a great resource for pet owners with more limited means. While there is a wait to get services, the people who work here clearly care about your animal, as well as all animals and are all incredibly good natured with great advice. Spays and neuters are especially affordable here, but be aware you will have to schedule your appointment way in advance, and they will only spay or neuter cats and dogs after 6 months.
