It is as good as reviews show it, nice environment, not outside, nice free breakfast with bagels and juices plus some bakeries, the staff is kinda nice and the bar has cheap deals during happy hour. Rooms are clean and common room is nice with games and books, it's also full of guides plus the guys at the Desk know how to get by in the city

Hostel is Awesome! Everything we needed and great activities. Our room consisted of 2 bunk beds and a bathroom/shower/tub. Cleaned daily. The breakfast is great: eggs and pancakes for $1, otherwise bagels, fruit, toast, oatmeal, coffee and juice are free.
We rented bikes while visiting and were able to store them at the hostel over night! (For free)
Check out is at 11a and our departure from the city wasn't until 9:30pm, the Hostel allowed us to store our luggage while we continued exploring the city after check out. (For free)
Evening activities and some dinners provided by donation. (Vegetarian friendly!)
24/7 desk staff is also a great perk!
Only downfall, no outside alcohol in the building, but there is a bar in the lobby, with a happy hour.

This hostel is an attraction on its own - the common areas are beautifully decorated with local art, each room representing one of San Francisco's bohemian neighbourhoods. They also have a bar serving local beer for affordable price, which is a great place to meet with other travellers in the hostel. Will definitely come back!

Love the place! I think it's really clean and nice. People are super super nice! I love the way they serve the breakfast, you are the one who selects what you want and if you want eggs or pancakes, you just pay $1 per piece. So it's pretty cheap and good. The rooms are pretty nice too, very clean and you almost feel like a vintage look in the whole hostel. I love vintage looks, so that's why I love it.

I had a great experience in this hostel, I booked a shared room with 3 other girls and everything was fine. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was always clean.

The breakfast was also good, they had many options like bagels, toasts, oatmeal and some fruits. You could also have pancakes and eggs for one dollar!

The staff was friendly, they were always happy to help. I d definitely come back next time.

Great hostel. HI San Francisco City Center Hostel ...

Great hostel. HI San Francisco City Center Hostel is very clean, has strong lock boxes and a really good breakfast. The location is not so great, so you are going to want to be careful about going out at night. But the they do a great job of watching the door and the hostel itself is super safe and secure. The also have a great deal with Must See tours if you want an awesome tour of Muir's Woods.

Well maintained, clean accommodation. They have a kitchen stocked with utensils that you can use. You could also store your food in the refrigerator - just get a small bin with your name on it and keep your stuff in the refrigerator. There is a bar that is exclusive for patrons staying at the hostel. The neighborhood is a bit spotty although not bad - when you check in, they give you a small instruction sheet on some streets / areas that you should use extra caution. Overall a great place to stay and Central to most public transportation including the BART which is a 10-15 min walk.

This place is fantastic. The beds are comfier than my own, the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, the common areas are so comfortable and inviting. Absolutely will book again on my next trip here!
There is an obvious presence of underprivileged people in the area, which seems to be the issue with most who ve left reviews, but I didn t have any negative experiences. Everyone seems quite friendly (compared to where I m from), so don t let that dissuade you from a great place to call home base.

got a private room with a bathroom. clean. has hot water. coffee and tea available 24 hours. free breakfast - bread, bagels, oatmeal, fruit (varies daily). pay one dollar for eggs and/or pancakes. Wi-Fi available. close to public transportation lines... there are homeless people at night. if this is a concern, be back at the hostel before night. we walked the area at night and did not encounter any untoward incident... allowed to leave luggage at hostel for free on our last day (our flight was late at night).

Nice Place!

Nice Place!
I would say it is a good hostel experience!
The major complaint I have is that the carpet and the floor is very dirty! This image is right next to my Bed in room 102. And I payed for a room called as: Premium
Sad!
There are USB plug-ins chargers on top of
The beds, but they only work if the light is
turned on! Which is kind of stupid... because if you want to charge your phone over the night you need the light turned on...
Besides that the rest was great! People at the front door are very friendly!
The bathroom is very small!
