I really hate to give police a bad review, but my experiences with these guys has not been good. They are horribly lax on domestic violence calls. One woman was told she had to be beaten three times in S.C. before she could file for a protective order. Other stuff I cannot share. Very dismissive of women and children.
Polite and very responsive to complaint of damaging behavior to the beach. Great experience in Murrell's Inlet!

Pulled over by Lt. Denis and he didn't notify me of who he was and also treated me like a criminal. He cussed me and berated me, he was very unprofessional. He needs to learn the law and be punished for harassing a good citizen. I will be filing a from complaint against him and will be asking for him to be demoted to a road deputy. Teach this man a lesson or he will keep on being tyrannical against the citizens of the united States of America.
Too much corruption and lack of decency with upper management that lately left the HCPD.
I just met with a HCPD officer and gave him the details of an attempted break in at my house. The officer was responsive and professional. He seemed genuinely concerned and offered useful advice regarding how to handle situations like what my wife and I just experienced. I was truly impressed by the officer s attitude and interest in our problem. God bless these officers in Blue. .
My daughter had her phone and wallet stolen, using the find my phone app she was able to lead police directly to the address where the phone was located and police refused to investigate any further. Apparently if you steal something and make it back in to your home you are allowed to get away with the crime. What a Joke
Yesterday had to be one of the scariest days of my life!!! After evacuating from Hurricane Florence, we headed back home to Myrtle Beach. NC was such a mess, many main and secondary roads were closed due to flooding. GPS was rerouting us to areas and roads that were impassable and flooded. We were driving in and around NC for nearly 8 hours in the dark. I would like to give a huge shout out to Horry County police Officer Greene.. He was the nicest officer I have ever run into. After being on the road for 16 + hours trying to get home and running into yet another closed road, he could see I was in distress, and called his fellow officer that lived in the CF area and asked him what roads he took home. He then got in his car and had me follow him around the roads that were flooded until I was able to reach Hwy 31. He took time out of his day to make sure my family and I were safe. He was a true example of what a police officer should be, and how they should serve their community. I am eternally grateful. Thank you again officer Greene in car #350.
I want to say great humanitarian deed Officer CJ Mullinax displayed by buying a homeless man food when he was called to the scene of a restaurant by a disgruntled customer when the homeless man was asking for scraps of food. Although there is a lot of tension between the Black Community and the police. Its great to see this type of kindness from police officers such as Officer Mullinax.
Poor attitudes, police , fire and EMT's think their god, well your not. Respect the locals a little more.
It is always difficult to get ahold of this department. I called 2 different dispatch numbers as well as 911...and STILL no answer. It took me to call the Myrtle Beach Police Department and for them to get ahold of them with 2 more calls, just to get transferred. Not to mention, it takes them longer than it really should to get a location. Not satisfied.
Had an issue where a man was fishing in the surf and because he said he a was a retired officer (no crendentials checked) he was treated with more respect than anyone else on the beach. Several families had their day ruined because they were scared to say anything and we were not!!! Nfine or anything.. Ive been coming here since I was 7 and now 45. Thanks horry county for not protecting the mass!!!!!!!
Seems Chief Hill is exacting change. Recently I have meet amazing officers. When I get the reports, I might have to give our blue 5 stars.
Can't get police reports and on the ones you can get... THEY ARE NOT OFFICIAL REPORTS and say Do Not Count on Statistics. Say what??? You can give them detailed description of criminal, give them a date and a place and the offense.... Then try and get a copy of what you reported. Nope. And what you can get has the wrong information, the wrong description, the wrong date and the wrong place etc. Lance Winburn needs to be given $60,000 and forced to "retire" for corruption in the precinct, Lt Mueller quotes "victims all lie". What?? Desk Officer Hassett needs to be removed for inability to be effective. Then we have Officer Joey " honey" dario.. Oh wait, that's what he calls victims. What?? And how about South Precinct "asking criminals if they did the crime and they say no, so there is not a crime". What?? SLED Capt Robertson's letter to me says " report the officer to himself and then the officer will request that he himself be investigated." What?? No wonder crime rules Horry County. Horry County deserves Lance Winburn as Acting Chief. Hahahaha Funniest thing I've heard. Nah, you can't scare me, I was married to Mr Greene.
Great Service. Just wanted to Thank You for having a patrol vehicle at the construction area of Hwy 17 & Holmestown Rd. It is much safer when the patrol makes a presence so that drivers aren't speeding in such a congested area. I would also like to ask about the speed limit on Glenns Bay Rd through that construction because I don't see any obvious speed signs. There is one very small, old 25mph in someones yard so maybe that can be addressed next. Keep up the good work out there.
Elderly Mother (already dealing w/cancer and compression fx in back) attacked at beach access in Garden City Beach. Admitted to ICU w/Subdural bleed and fx wrist. Horry County Police response has been NOTHING. Absolutely nothing. I back the blue but those that actually do their job. Pathetic police ethic. Worst I've ever encountered. All respect GONE for this department!
I just called to report something I saw on the side of the road. I was "transferred to dispatch " and no one answered the phone. Waste of taxpayer money.
I have yet to find anything in Horry County that is against the law, unless its me doing it.
However, I can only appreciate the brave men and women who run toward danger while I am running from it.
I believe that the solicitors office is the problem with Horry County, not the Horry County Police. They can only enforce the laws under the guidance of the Solicitor.
Had a guy find me on Facebook that I never met. He asked me if I had some money stolen about a year ago. I told him yes I did but the cops never found anything. He proceeded to tell me that he had the guy on audio admitting and bragging on how they stole my money and over $80,000 from other people in the county. He said that they had stolen multiple items and knows who has them. He and I met up and went to the police department. When we arrived, an office met us and told us that someone would be in touch. They have yet to contact me. They never listened to the recordings to see if this could be tide to any other burglaries in the county. This police department is a joke.
Absolutely no help when I reported a burglary. Nothing was done not even a police report.
I just witnessed two people cooking and smoking some sort of drug in a parking lot. They were clearly high, the woman was nodding off and throwing things around. The male was punching the dashboard and acting very skeptical. Not normal behavior, and clearly doing something harder like heroin or crack. The police were contacted and when the officer arrived, did not ask them to step out of the car. Did not search them when there were witnesses who saw what was going on. The police officer left for a moment and in that moment witnesses saw the woman throwing stuff under the car, in the backseat and down her shirt. When the officer come came back to them he was told what happened and did not do anything about it. He saw there was garbage on the ground (a bag of drugs), stepped on it and said it wasn t crunchy so he gave it BACK to HER and got in his truck, backed up and let them drive away.... I have never been so appalled by anything in my life. An officer who is supposed to serve, and protect his community but instead, let two humans get away with drugs. Very interested that we re paying his salary by giving our tax dollars to... I am completely ashamed of this officer and he should be ashamed of himself... very poor judgement and character, and a very selfish cop. Thank you to the good cops who keep Horry County safe but shame on him!!
Every officer I have encountered is extremely incompetent. And for officers that are supposed to enforce law they do not even know the law themselves. They all tell you something different and none of it is even correct. I find it hard to believe or understand how any of them are even officers. They enforce what they want and do what they want. Also any time while being arrested I have never been read my Miranda rights? If I'm wrong correct me but that is the only requirement in arresting someone. Not worth the air they breathe.
Officer Tucker was awesome. Called in a wellness check and he was the responding officer. Panicked and worried I gave him the wrong address by one digit. After being connected with him directly on the call we got the problem solved and the mission accomplished. Dad was ok, but most of all offcier Tucker worked with me though my demanding instructions (sorry, former Marine). Thanks again officer Tucker for listening when you probably didn't want

This police department regularly operates in a less than honorable way. I watched an officer ticket a woman for parking in "hash marks" in front of a Speedway which were next to a handicapped spot. The spot was not marked no parking, and until recently had been a regular parking spot. Without any notice to the public, the police dept decided that they would monitor this spot and ticket for profit anyone who missed the "yellow hash marks" on the ground for "parking in a handicap spot". This is a scam, and when I called the supervisor to ask about it, he told me he knew exactly where the spot was. I do not trust a police force that operates in such a sleazy way. We have put up with their speed traps which begin the day they lower a speed limit and cost the taxpayer money in fines and insurance. We have sat in the court in Conway and watched as they present case after case of "criminal" (because in SC speeding is a criminal matter,) behavior that really was entrapment from them. This is not the behavior of a police force that is serving the public, this is the behavior of a police force that is fleecing the public in a well known tourist area. Shame on them.
December 16 approx. My roommate confronted me in the kitchen over using plates where I rent a furnished room from her in a house where she is the tenant. when I continued to use the plate she grabbed me and tried wrestling it away. When i held it in place she punched me in the face to loosen my grib, trashing my salmon dinner, broken plate, asparagus on floor; left my nose bloody, hair pulled and glasses broken. I looked a hot mess.
I am more then capable of defending myself, but knew from north Carolina defense laws all i had to do endure the abuse and call the police with physical evidence of an assault for an immediate arrest. She called first because my phone was upstairs. I attempted to call 911 once i calmed down, less then 2 minutes after, with no answer. 3 attempts 911 dial, called 3 different dispatch lines with no answer before this department responded in person to her call. because she told them I put my hands on her, when she was completely composed, hair done, make up in place. they told me they would arrest me if I press charges.
This occurred mid December. Less then a week later said roommate vandalized my scooter in her garage which is only accessible from the inside prior to opening the garage door. Completely scratched up my 100 helmet which was in the house. Pictures also attached. I called the police, they did not even send an officer. Officer goodrum called me, took a report, gave me a case number, i emailed pictures, and spoke with Sgt. Wyatt, shift supervisor of the evening crew that threatened arresting me.
Over $700 in damages to scooter. They do not even contact me again and no arrests. Under the sun scooters maintains my scooter and made the repairs. They loaned me a rental. I get home 530 from work, 6 pm I hear noise in front of house. I look out the window and she is pushing it into the street and I have a picture of her, scooter, and her car she used to run over said scooter.
Can you guess what has happened?? officer fletcher responded. Saw picture, saw her wearing same dark clothes, she admitted to exiting the house at 6pm at time of my call. He gave me a card, another case number, and ... he threatens if i choose to continue to live here and call the police again, they will arrest me.
My advice? Do not need police assistance in horry co. Move to myrtle city limits or surfside beach for a competent police department who enforces justice. Or hire a good lawyer after the fact and sue the department. My next plan of action.
As of January 10 I have heard nothing from this department, officer goodrum who took the report and I emailed her personally and spoke with her for 20 minutes on a break at work to get her contact information and what was going to happen. Or Sgt Wyatt who had 2 officers respond initially and scooter rental call that threatened to arrest me with no previous encounters ever with law enforcement. Following day roommate vandalized rental scooter. They filed a report as well.

April 23, 2018 Although i have photos as you all can see of her pushing my moped in front of her car, police inform me it's inconclusive. I have had no help from the police department with this issue. To add to the frustration I was threatened in a video by a different female a few days ago. I showed the video to the police and they said since I did not make myself available to her to be attacked a crime was not committed.
The laziest police department ever! I called last night and they said they were sending somebody, an hour and a half later I called them back and they said they had been dispatched to a call that was more important and still nobody responded at all last night. I called again this morning and they called back and said there is nothing they can do about my situation. How are we supposed to feel "protected" if the police department doesn't care to do their job???
