Couldn t see the spots the guide/driver was talking about, at least in the back. He was very personable. But we were rushed at every stop. Part of the route has to take you thru skid row...glad me and my 10! Year old were in the back, so he couldn t see that mess! REALLY?!?! We re suppose to have 90 minutes at the bridge, it was barely an hour 15. But being a part of a group got us right in, no lines. Not worth the money.

I read reviews, but decided to try hop on/off regardless - mistake. Second day, waited over an hour despite the 30 minute interval promise. As we were about an hour walk from hotel, we ended up having to pay for a taxi. One bus was fine, but two others were very run down and sad and one bus driver went part way through a red light, slammed on breaks and people were flung forward and someone fell off seat because of no seat belts. Same bus driver went off on wrong route and realized half way through and we all had to change buses - very unprofessional and unsettling.

My husband and I have done Big Bus Tours all over the world, and have to say that the one in Vancouver was the WORST EVER!!!!!
We caught a bus with two friends, seats were all wet, as they hadnt put a cover on, the PA system was not working, there was no availability for foreigners to listen to a commentary (or anyone for that matter, as nothing was working).
I have sent an email to the company, and they have not even bothered to reply.

The worst city tour in my life

The worst city tour in my life

Interval 15-20 minutes - is a lie.
To catch a bus with the support of the other languages - only with a lot of luck, that is very few. The busses are old and ailing. Distance between the seats is too narrow.
Spend your money better by an another provider.

Hop On Hop Off? Don t think so. Once you hop off you ll likely never hop on again. Save your money and take public transport or Taxi, this is definitely not worth the money. We were left in Stanley Park waiting over an hour after 4 busses went past that were full . The buses are really old with seats that fall back if you lean on them. Either spend a bit more for a different company or just avoid this all together.

Dont waste your money on this, the buses are old and the waiting is really long for the landmarks that are only worth a 2min photo, and there are two buses a green one that will never stop unless you are alredy inside and the blue one that if you miss it you ll have to wait for another hour so you ll end up walking anyways

I WAS excited....until it took nearly an hour for a bus to finally pick us up when it s supposed to take half an hour. The tour felt very impersonal, every hop on hop off I ve been on the driver actually gave the info and talked with people etc..this was all pre recorded and the drivers weren t very sociable. At their hub the workers were talking to each other about some bar night rather than helping people even though there was a line. Some drivers are great but others are very rude...

Waited for a bus that had multiple languages (We are German) (even though it is advertised that all buses have it, only some of the newer ones are equipped with it). The system did not work and the bus driver had no clue how to work the system. He did talk over the dishessp but it's so hard to hear with the loud engine and all the street noise outside. Half the information was not about the city.

Nothing exciting as the tour guide takes you out around the pier for a short 30 min tour. However, the owner is always hanging out chatting with customers and the tour guides are very knowledgeable. The boats are beautiful and very clean. Definitely recommend for someone visiting Vancouver for the first time. Parking is a pain! Street parking is your best bet, and make sure you put enough for two hours as you might not get on the first boat available during peak hours.

The different reviews result in my view by the completely different types of buses, I sat in 3 different buses and have seen a fourth type. The trolleys are ok and have headphones for other languages. At the same time, the text runs in English over loudspeakers. As long as one does not sit next to a loudspeaker and tunes in louder, one can understand the German text well. There are no headphones in the other buses, so if you have small children without English you will have a problem. Gray Line should actually point out on the website that other languages are only available on selected buses.

The staff are all very friendly and helpful.

Took hop on hop off this morning. Waited for 20min for bus. Was an old trolley with no air-conditioning and only 2 windows that opened.option was to wait another 20 min standing in heat on sidewalk. No suspension and sitting on bare wood so bouncy and uncomfortable. How could this bus still be in service?
Driver refused to use the automated communication system and said inaccurate, ridiculous things. Driver took 2 breaks and shut bus off. Such an expensivr waste of my vacation time and money.

So very disappointed! Do not waste your money, if I could give a 0 I would. If you have small children this is NOT the tour for you. We waited outside our bus trying to figure out which bus we were on (not advised there would be three identical buses) and then were lectured for being late over the loud speaker because we were not on the bus. There was minimal a/c and I asked to turn it up and was given a hard time too as it was very warm on board for my infant daughter.

When we got to the Capilano Suspension Bridge we were told to meet back in 5 minutes but we had to wait for the family restroom. Our tour guide left without us... but also never came back to check on us so instead of being able to skip the line we saw him walking out of the Centre. My husband tried calling after him but he just left.

In short if you need time to use family bathrooms because you have small children or would like to feel like your tour guide did more than yell at you during your tour don t bother with this company.

Hop on and off to see Vancouver. Westcoast Sightse...

Hop on and off to see Vancouver. Westcoast Sightseeing s Hop-On, Hop-Off service is a good way to see Vancouver. Overall, I like the service. The tour consisted of fairly comfortable busses with good open-air seat visibility and pre-recorded narration across two loops, the Park Loop and City Loop. The loops did cross, so we purchased the combined pass (I recommend you do) to flexibly visit the stops we were interested in as the day wore on. We purchased tickets on their great web site and picked up our first bus right next to our hotel in downtown Vancouver. We moved back and forth between routes to visit several key stops while seeing much of Vancouver and receiving some education on the city along the way. The narration was informative and somewhat corny. The scripting lacked some of the local charm and flexibility we ve seen with live narrations of similar tours in other cities. The scripting also repeated itself multiple times between stops sometimes, which was annoying. Some drivers did add some commentary, which we much appreciated (message to Westcoast, improve your narration scheme). The bus drivers were generally okay (some good, some a bit rude), and the condition of the busses were generally good. The company maintains a live, on-line bus location feed that s fantastic; we displayed the feed on our cell phones to time our station pickups. During our tour, the busses crowded up by mid-day, really too crowded at one point, forcing us to miss two pickups in a row due to no seats. Westcoast Sightseeing adds more busses when ridership is congested, but they add the new busses too slowly, forcing unacceptable waits (message to Westcoast, improve your timing scheme). We did see plenty of energetic young employees with electronic tablets at stops; these staff were very friendly and did a great job answering questions and trying to organize the bus flow. The price is okay; I think the combined two-loop ticket is the best value. We especially liked the Westcoast Sightseeing Hop-On, Hop-Off service for the Stanley Island portion of our visit; we exited the bus on one side of the huge park and hiked the forests, bay views, and gardens to the opposite side of the park to catch another bus back to the city very convenient. Overall, I liked the Westcoast Sightseeing s Hop-On, Hop-Off; it s a decent value for decent price, good stops, and fair reliability, all without having to worry about driving and parking in busy Vancouver. Westcoast definitely needs to make some improvements, but even with the current imperfections, the service is a reasonable choice for touring the beautiful and interesting city of Vancouver.

Disclaimer first- I haven't ridden these busses. But I was witness to a series of erratic and illegal manoeuvres by one of their busses through Stanley park. Based on that, I wouldn't ride on them. However, when I called it in, the woman who answered seemed genuinely concerned and took all the bus details down and asked if so would like a call back with results, so this may not be typical.

Monty Python is alive and well and driving for town tours. Possibly dragged out of retirement our driver complete with two sets of spectacles and unable to read the dashboard when adjusting the microphone proceeded to garble his way through a rambling commentary interspersed with his idea of humour. Awful but strangely funny. Organisation dubious. We were required to change buses three times. $160 CD expensive

Recently, we had a great trip to Grouse mountain with Jon and to Whistler with Andy . Both were punctual, well informed, funny and courteous. Jon decided to designate myself and spouse as Romeo and Juliet and sang for us at the end of the tour. At the end of a long memorable day at Whistler Andy dropped us off, right in front of the waterfront station so we didnt have to walk any more. Excellent service! Hearty thanks to both.

This tour agency was recommended by the concierge at our hotel for a trip to whistler. The experience was not worth the amount we paid (about $100/person overpriced) and the bus seats were not comfortable. If you re interested in visiting whistler while in Vancouver I d recommend skipping this tour agency and getting the $35 round trip transportation. Westcast sightseeing offered very little value besides transportation

We didn't have a good experience with the bus and the driver/guide. He wasn't dressed professionally and his driving was not safe. Also, he didn't have his belt on.

The bus didn't have the overhead bin for storing backpacks, etc.

We were bit late at Whistler and he got upset and lost his temper. He doesn't know how to deal with customers politely and professionally.

I strongly recommend professional training to all the drivers/guides.

I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone.

Incredibly rude guide. I went on the electric boat tour in the afternoon of Sept 22 and the guide, whose name I don't know as he never even introduced himself to the group, was horrible.
We were told to be 15 minutes early. And we waited on the dock, which has no markers or indicators you are in the correct location. The guide (an older man with grey hair) showed up, did not acknowledge that things were running behind schedule, and did not communicate when the tour would be leaving. I was stressed because our parking was going to expire during the boat ride, as it was starting late. When I asked if WestCoast sightseeing would reimburse us if we got a traffic ticket, the guide aggressively told me that I shouldn't come on the tour.
He then went on to apologise about another incident to my friend and when I told him that he could direct an apology to me for his rudeness he replied sharply that he wasn't talking to me. I felt uncomfortable for the trip but didn't want to make a scene and wreck everyone else's enjoyment.
The guide also got facts wrong. He told us the Marine Building is 22 stories tall when it is in fact 21 stories high. It's also no longer owned my the Guinness Family as he indicated on the tour.
I work with large groups of people and won't be sending any of them to your company. This tour is disorganised and this man is a terrible ambassador to Vancouver.

We visited in March and decided to take the City Tour on the Hop On Hop Off bus with Westcoast Sightseeing. We were lucky and our first bus that came along was the "San Francisco" style tram. They have convenient and easy to find stops along the route and the bus stops at each stop, but I would suggest being on time. We decided we would do the whole route and then hop off at some of the areas of interest. We had a wonderful gentleman driver who was well versed on history, present and future plans for areas. He was aware of movie sites and movies being currently filmed in Vancouver. We were enjoying our tour until the driver traded out. We then experienced a very loud talker and jerky style driving. We rode to where were planning to hop off. The driver provided stickers and ferry passes for our use so we could hop on when done. You do need to watch your times as the last run is around the 3:30 mark depending on what stop you are at. I would suggest planning to rise early enough to get the full tour. We found it informative and was only $39 per person. Worth it for what we took away from it.

These busses are the worst vehicles on the road. If you listen by a street corner. You will hear the bus for a mile away. Busses aren t suppose to sound like death. The amount of money this place makes should be able to afford busses that are good for the environment and actually sound like they will run for your hole journey. The amount of noise that they produce is sickening for such a peaceful place like Vancouver. Worst company out there!

cultures in various communities. She shared how the first nations art can be found throughout the city. The tour was a great way to start my visit to Vancouver and definitely helped me to prioritize the areas to visit in my next few days.

Definately not worth the $55 per-person fee. We were left stranded in Stanley Park for over 45 min. We called the office, they indicated buses were on the way but after another 25 mins, we gave up and walked back to the city.

You'll get more value from a municipal bus pass.

The high-back seats on the bus make visibility difficult and I'm a 5'10. I can't imagine a petite woman or child being able to see anything on these buses. The narration is a recording. They have room for improvement.

Some of their busses are neglected and burn oil (stinky blue smoke) while they drive around the downtown core making walking past one of these busses rather unpleasant. I ve noticed this issue to be an ongoing one over time. I tried to let a driver know so that they could let their maintenance crew know but they were actually quite rude back to me for some reason.

We got tickets to go to the Grouse mountain and the last bus back to the city was clearly stated as 7:10pm. We got off the mountain at 6:48pm, and saw a bus driver about to leave. We were then told that this was already the last bus and there is no space for us. We either need to get a cab or take the public bus that will need to transfer to a ferry service to get back to the city. There was no explanation, nor apologies. We were lucky enough to catch the driver, otherwise we would be waiting there until 7:10 and realize that there was no bus. As far as I could see that the driver also did not bother to put a sign to let others know that no more buses will be coming. So horrible! Avoid the company if possible.

Not a real hop on-hop off bus tour. Get off and wait 20 minutes for the other bus to come. If you plan to stay on the bus, expect blurry pictures because the bus never stops or slows down to let you take pictures. You're better off taking Translink buses for a fraction of the price they charge. There's a reason why this company has an average of 2.8 stars out of 5 by so many customers. Please don't make the same mistake that I did. I can't go back in time, you can still avoid the mistakes made by many including myself.

Would NOT recommend. Our group thought this would be a convenient and simple way for our family to see Stanley Park (bike riding wasn't an option for my pregnant friend). It was a huge mistake. We had to wait for two buses or more (40-60 mins) at each of the five locations we "hopped on." This was on a Wednesday. No where near enough buses running. For example, a stop at the totem poles was 8 minutes of taking pictures and walking the small loop, then 50 minutes of waiting in a long line for the next bus. We rarely got to sit in pairs as people hogged the window seats and never got off. The "park route" is 60% city. Best of all, clearly heading to the beach (towels, suits, asking the driver to recommend which beach to stop at), we were never told the final bus would run at 6pm (just 20 minutes after he let us out). We were stranded at Second Beach and spent $40 on cabs to get our group close to home again. The whole experience was terrible. Please, save yourself the disappointment and rent a car or bikes for the day to do Stanley Park.

I loved this guide very much with the driver Jeffrey. You don't have to understand English to enjoy his company, he's amazing and a real tanner. He likes to tease people and do cute little tricks. It explains a lot about life in Vancouver and British Columbia in general. He gives comments at each passage. He has a lot of energy. Even I, who is usually very limited in tips, had to accept the generous tip offered by my boyfriend. The BC ferry ride is an experience for tourists. The only downside is that we had a little too much time for the Butchart Gardena and little time for downtown Victoria.

I booked the evening tour because I as in town for a conference and only had a short amount of time to see the sights. The tour was at 7:30, we had public transportation problems and arrived in front of the booth at 7:30. We were told the bus had left because it was 7:31. We're told we could reschedule or call to get refund. As I could not go any other time, I called to get a refund and they told me their policy wasn't not refund especially for the evening tour. But because we did try to get there, they'd give me 1/2 a refund ... Very disappointed in this. I understand you have to stay on time, but maybe an extra 30 seconds would be nice.

Horrible!

Horrible!

Our 'trolley' is a school bus! The recorded narration is an angry driver who yells into the microphone for people to sit down, then slows at stops to yell, Full! Narration is barely understandable by someone who obviously hates his job and mumbles continually. Total rip-off. If you've done hop on/hop off elsewhere, you will be disappointed. Doesn't even rate 1 star! Choose another operator or option for your tour.

The evening was incredible for our very large group. Although chartering a whole trolley would have guaranteed us touring together, the organizers worked hard to place every member of our constantly growing group on the same trolley. It was a wonderful surprise...thank you, thank you, thank you! Seeing all these amazing displays with "front of the line" access was a great way to begin our holiday celebration.

Haunted trolley tour

Haunted trolley tour

This was truly disappointing as my wife and I were excited to see the city from a different perspective.
The driver raced around town not stopping or slowing down to show you the "haunted spots" spoken about by the poor woman narrating the tour from cue cards. She told us it was her first night, she clearly had not received anywhere near enough training or experience as she stumbled through her incoherent stories read from cue cards. We arrived at the only good part of the tour, the graveyard section where we were told that we were 30 minutes early and had to wait for the actors to finish with the tour ahead of us (of course we were early when you race through the town as if you were trying to beat your previous time).
Everything on this tour was poorly executed except the graveyard portion. More training and better organization required all around. Definitely not worth the price.

I m a local that works in the touristy area of Water St. where these buses frequently stop for pickups and drop offs.
The amount of pollution these buses create is brutal.
The drivers run their engines idling while parked long beyond what the law allows. (I ve looked it all up.) These are buses with the doors closed that are neither picking up or dropping off passengers.
Please train your drivers to turn off their engines when they re just sitting there.
Tired of waving fumes away from my face and being chased away with my coffee.

Grey Line always has a wonderful tour route mapped out. However, I was a little disappointed on Friday's tour of Stanley Park. We were on a bus which had no windows. Instead it had plastic covers which stuck to the window frames with Velcro. These plastic things were down, even though there was no rain on the horizon. This meant that I couldn't get a single decent picture of the whole tour. Despite that, I enjoyed the narration.

Not sure why there are so many bad reviews. My experience was nothing but positive, but maybe we were lucky. We did the 5 hour city/suspension bridge tour and our tour guide was very thorough in his narrating. He was a classic Canadian, humorous, had a lot of cultural info to share in between showing landmarks. They even accommodated our luggage on a different bus while we went on the tour. Then, they dropped us off at our hotel. It was very first-class service. Again, maybe we got lucky with our specific driver.

Would recommend - especially the Coal Harbour eBoat Tour. We booked the premium pass, which included 48hours (2 days) of the Hop-On/Hop-Off bus Tour, the Coal Harbour eBoat Tour, and the evening tour of Vancouver. All in all, this experience was on par with most of our Hop-On/Hop-Off bus experiences (in Canada, US, and Europe). A good way to get around town, see key highlights and even a few lesser-known spots, and learn a few things. The biggest Pro for us was the Coal Harbour eBoat tour. It is an electric boat so you move fairly slow, but that wasn't a bad thing. It was a relaxing, enjoyable, and long tour (long in a good way). Our operator was extremely knowledgable and shared so much historical and current information.

Just a couple small critiques (hence the 4 star rating, instead of 5).
-- The buses themselves are not always the most comfortable (not all buses are the same), but it's manageable.
-- The evening tour was "okay". While the planned route is a good one, both the gardens and prospect point are great spots to visit, it felt very rushed. Seeing as how the entire tour only has two stops, it would have been nice to have a bit more time in each - or at least in the gardens. It was not as enjoyable as we had originally hoped. I will say though, the driver tried his very best, and was as accommodating as he could be.
-- The "Park Route" and the "City Route" overlap a bit too much. While it is convenient for switching routes, it was too repetitive. You should consider redesigning your routes so that the park route, does less of the city portion, and perhaps includes other areas currently being excluded.
-- Lastly, both routes pass a portion of downtown Vancouver known for housing a large transient community (similar to skid row). While this may not be the ideal for visitors, nor should these people be treated as a display, it would be more appropriate (I think) if the situation were addressed (even if only briefly) to provide visitors with some context and understanding. Not speaking about it, only leaves a poorer impression; and worse still, on the "City Route" when passing that part of downtown, the recorded narrative very "conveniently" tells passengers (TWICE) to CLOSE THEIR EYES. The reason given is so passengers can "imagine" a Vancouver of the past, but as Canadians we felt this was a cheap ploy and a terrible way to handle the situation.

I would not recommend this tour to anyone. We had a terrible experience and I was embarrassed to have company from another country with me. We got on in Stanely Park and the first driver shouted over the recorded narration to have a conversation with the passenger in the front seat, the whole way to Granville Island. We were unable to take pictures, as the sides of the bus had some very outdated plastic hanging down. It made the viewing very difficult. Got back on at Granville Island with a different driver, whom we couldn't hear, as the speakers were not working. Got off at Gastown and spent some 'tourist time' before getting back on. We then encountered the first driver, that we had had, and I asked him if we could get on at Library Square. He shouted at me to sit down. he then drove like a madman. He flew past Library Square and then stopped at the next stop and yelled at everyone to get off, as he was "done for the day". There were many shocked people as to his behaviour. We subsequently missed our planned ferry back to Vancouver Island as we had to walk for five blocks to get back to Georgia Street for the ferry bus. Not impressed at all with this company. I will pay an extra $12 and go with another company next time.

Horrible company that charge high price to ride on very old used school busses. Buses are very loud and polluting. Can't the company afford to buy new buses like the double deckers made by Alexander Denis in England. Translink is buying 32 of them for Vancouver.

Hop on hop off was a waste of our money. Trollys were full and we spent most of our time listening to the driver tell people wanting to get on that they could not. My family had to all sit separated and we could not understand or hear what the driver was saying. People would not get off the bus, I could only assume because they feared they would not be able to get back on. They also end at 5:00(which I did not catch) so when we were ready to hop on to go to dinner, it was an unfortunate surprise to learn they were not running anymore. I ended up paying $200 for the 6 of us to shuttle from one side of town to the other. Other hop on/off tours I ve done blow this one away. Bums.

We did the city tour with the trip to the Capilano Bridge.
Jack was our tour guide/bus driver and he was incredible! We really enjoyed his commentary (he was very knowledgeable) and he was an excellent driver. He offered to take group pictures for us and had a great sense of humour. We are so glad we booked this tour!

Some of drivers were a credit to the company by talking about the places not just relying on the pre recording. One point though I would like to see a sign by the driver saying they stop at 5 30 pm as we thought it was 9 pm and tried to get across town at 5 30 pm and the driver said he had finished so we had to walked back to our hotel.

This comment is related to the hop on hop off experience. The tours seem really different.

Their publicity indicates :
"open-top buses and Trolleys", we got old buses with windows removed, didn't see any trolleys on the roads

"Live english commentary, commentary in 7 languages" we got recorded commentary in all buses not playing at the right time and not able to hear it in some of the older buses... no language choices. One driver on the second day added a bit of commentary.. we rode with 4 to 6 drivers.

On their website they said that the buses were running every 30 minutes.... no way... we always waited more than 45 minutes when we wanted to get back on.

The first day we figured that we were a bit out of season, beginning of October and a Friday... We did the City tour... starting at Canada Place. Got on the bus..with high seats, impossible to see much. We got off at Grandville Island. We visited and then got back to the stop. We wanted to complete the city tour, we saw two park route buses go by... after 45 minutes... finally a city route we hopped on...just to up off a frw minutes after, the driver was told to go directly to Gastown skipping a few stops and the story behind. We wiated for the next one... 15 minutes later. Never saw Chinatown... the driver dropped people at a corner not saying anything he skipped the route.

We went back on Sunday to do the patk route... there was a cruise ship... figured they would have more buses, more commentaries..thiught it would be busy. Well we were right it was busy... but the same number of buses, same type no trolleys. The moto was hop on, don't hop off or run at the chance of waiting forever and get onky full buses. I don't known how many times a day the poor drivers and employees have to say "sorry the bus is full... there's an overflow bus 20 minutes behind".

We do hop on hop off in most cities we visit and love it, we understand that it's not the same as a city tour. In this case... we would have been better using public transit. This tour is the same with poorer quality and 5 times the price !

I'm dissapointed. I don't recommend to anyone. The only positive part is that all employees we met were very nice.

Received just what it said on the tin. Arrived precisely on time for hotel pickup. Andy was a superb guide, and three stops stayed on schedule throughout and well organized. Would use again.

Room for improvement: long waits at stops for next bus, bus running behind & off schedule, leaky bus roof/plastic cover causing multiple wet seats, driver was on cell phone & made no commentary

Positive: different driver, Simon, was very knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, & provided great commentary, convenient way to see & get around Vancouver, many good stops on Park Route

Worse hop on hop off we ve ever had. In the middle of the trip we were told the line we were on was not going to make all stops as promised so had to get off. Later in the trip we stopped in the gaslight area and after sitting there for almost 10 minutes we had to change busses again so the driver could go to lunch. Then we had to sit another 6 minutes- no reason given. Complete waste of our time and money. We do hop on hop off at all the cities we visit but never with grey line. Will make sure not to use them again

Blue smoke from exhausts. This company should be taxed to death for using scrap metal for busses. Police should be stoping these vehicles for poisoning entire streets!
It s impossible to drive next, or behind these buses.
