Hollywood Downtowner Inn Review

Man! This hotel has something! It totally reminds me of movies and TV series where people flee in a rush and arrived in a motel when they are exhausted from driving. There are rows of balconies decorated by pot flowers and secured white painted metal bars. The balconies look right to the swimming pool in the center of the facility. When it comes to hotel rooms, there's not much to expect. It's clean but quite aged, which you would totally notice from the bathrooms and some small details inhe room. On the other hand, this is an inexpensive hotel in downtown LA. A lot of places are in walkable distance. On top of that you receive complimentary breakfast in an earthy restaurant two doors right to the hotel.

Well located, close to a metro stop, and walking to the walk of fame takes about 15/20 minutes. Breakfast is a local next door and it is quite good. Something old but everything works well, the room is spacious, there is a pool that is always good when it's hot and parking (many hotels do not have it)

Pros:
Great location. You can walk to the Avenue of the Stars, and the Chinese Theater. Close to Universal, close to Beverly Hills.
Covered and uncovered parking.
Courteous and pleasant staff. Soak up a good and safe feeling.
There is breakfast on site.
The place has a pool.
The place is locked.

Disadvantages:
Arranging the beds, arranged for us only one day out of four nights.
The rooms are outdated and not well maintained
Breakfast is basic. The woman in the dining room is constantly with a sullen face.

In conclusion we came out with a very good feeling. Recommended shipping cost.

The rooms are somewhat old, but they are clean, they have an adequate size and the staff is friendly. Well located and with a price somewhat lower than the area

This place was everything we paid for including free parking. It's in a sketchy neighborhood but the hotel has security and we never felt endangering anyway. The rooms are clean and large. The staff is very nice. These so-called free breakfast though is not worth it.

I was very happy with my stay at this hotel. Price was definitely a factor in my choice to stay here - I knew I wasn't going to get a fancy, five-star hotel experience, and so I adjusted my expectations accordingly. Check-in was quick and simple, my room was clean, functional, and comfortable. The location of the hotel itself isn't particularly glamorous but it does have great access to nearby points of interest. There was a cooked buffet-style breakfast provided which isn't usually included at this price, so that was nice. I had no doubts about safety staying here. I had been here once before and it would be my first choice if I came to Los Angeles again.

i like the breakfast every morning there but the heater in the room was too loud that i couldn't sleep well at night.

We stayed here for 7 nights visiting family that lived nearby. Our room was clean, but dated, could use a fresh coat of paint to spruce things up. We picked this hotel because of location and price- they were both right. I didn t speak with the owners, but my husband did and said they were super nice. We were here during a cold snap and there is no heat- very chilly nights! There are no Do Not Disturb signs for the rooms and 3 times the maid knocked and entered without waiting- we were still in bed! I appreciate her dedication- but you need some door knob signs!! One morning we were out for a hike and when we got back ALL of our towels were gone with no replacements. Didn t realize until I was already in the shower and went to grab one (had to stand there while my husband ran down to the front desk). Overall I d recommend this hotel, but set your expectations for a 3 star.

We had a fabulous time in LA and loved the Hollywood Downtowner In. The rooms were clean and the pool area was very lovely. Parking is tight, but the owners were very accommodating of my full size pickup.

This place served it's purpose. We needed a place to sleep after our night out. This place is far from fancy. Some people may be uncomfortable here. It's in a questionable neighborhood, but I felt safe inside. Everything was out of date and old. If this doesn't bother you, you will be fine.

Clean, friendly staff, perfect location, best of all family owned! Stayed for 4 days for a family wedding and could not be happier with my stay. Highly recommended!

Nice little hotel. No fancy intention, but good value for money. We like that. Within walking distance of the Hollywood walk of fame.

I was blessed to take my daughter, grandkids, nephews, and nieces to the Hollywood Downtowner Inn for a trip down Memory Lane. It was formerly known as the Winona Motel when I lived there with my Handsome Latino Daddy Joel Garcia and our mom Stella. He was an actor at the Lee Stausberg Academy during those days when with 5 kids in a family of 7, dared to give acting a try in the mid-'60s, I taught my little sisters to play hopscotch on the squares on the sidewalk. Ana Maria and Hector were blessings as housekeeping. We girls, use to ask to help her fold towels and we would ask poor Hector a million questions about cleaning the pool EVERY time... Those were the best days of my childhood besides my love for the Lone Star State... God Rest their souls, my Daddy JJ and babysis Melynda... God Bless this staff and owners... as an awesome person once said... 'Thanks for the memories'...

The motel was okay, for the price. We only stayed one night and it was very good for the location, but I would not have spent another night there. Although we had a room to the side, but you would feel the cars drive through the room. In the corners you should not look better. A fridge was available and the receptionist was also very nice. Breakfast was next to the fish and chips bar. Very simple, toast, scrambled eggs, sausages, hamburger and you could make yourself waffles, I thought it was awesome and then was well fed. The coffee was okay.

The structure is also nice but the breakfast in a building next door was really terrible as well as rundown and smelly the room.

Very friendly welcome, perfect location, on Homlywood Boulevard! Free parking, spacious rooms with all amenities, good breakfast included, very good price / quality !!!

Aging mediocre motel.
We had booked a family room and the bathroom that came with it was very small. Positive: a small room next door with a fridge and a small kitchenet, but it was very hot in this room. It is only a few minutes to the Walk of Fame and Universal Studios. It takes a little longer to go downtown.

Breakfast is served in a shop 2 doors down and was (by American standards) really not bad. You could bake fresh waffles and there was toast, eggs, sausages.

A joke! False advertisement on Web site, no hotel shuttle and wouldn't refund deposit after had to rent a car to get here. Rooms are like a jail cell. And breakfast was almost gone nobody in a hurry to make more and the scraps that were left couldn't be consumed. Bread is not a full breakfast. Do not book!!!!!

They put us in an apartment when we had a room, well !!

POSITIVE: The facilities are spacious, very friendly staff and helping at all times. The apartments are very spacious and bed very comfortable, although everything quite dated. Good and varied breakfast. Parking.

NEGATIVE: CLEANING is quite fair in the room / apartment (toilet, dirt in general ...) and is a bit far from everything (normal in such a big city). It only has the Griffin Observatory 15 minutes away by car, as well as the Walk of Fame. The facilities are quite outdated.

The room was dirty, full of holes in the walls, supposed to have not been renovated since the 70's. The walls needed to be repainted, the bathroom completely redone. They should be ashamed to rent such a room.

Nice guy at the desk. Good localtion, 15 min walking from highlights. Breakfast is in a coffee bar close to the hotel, not bad .

Good price. Very friendly and helpful staff. Brekky next door kids loved the pancakes....eggs were yum and cook v friendly and engaging. Thai restaurant 2 doors past Catch 56 was yummm. Bathroom and water had a stench and floors were dirty. Couldnt leave door open as screen ripped badly. No screen on bathroom window and fridge or microwave made awful sound so had to unplug. Free parking. Grocer across road and 711 down road. For families just sleeping here and on budget.

It's in a central location. Free breakfast at a small restaurant 2 doors down. Restaurants and convenience are all in walking distance. Don't expect a 5 star hotel experience, we're all here for the convenient location.

I am a Navy vet. On checkout day I asked for the room for one more night after a 3 night stay. I was rudely given 15 min to clear out. I caused no issues at all. Yet cash nor card were good enough. I stay in hotels quite a bit. I will not visit this one again. Other than that the rooms were shabby and worn. Service was non existent.

Good location and motel for the price. Unfortunately the motel did not have breakfast, but they had to take IP a jam next door where it was not very good food. It often ended things, eggs one day, coffee creamer the other day and the jam for the waffles was also over one day

We had an apartment instead of the room. And it is all about your expectations. The apartment is big (bedroom and living room), clean, has everything you need, like stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and even dishwasher. Air conditioners works good in both rooms. In the other side: you really don't want look in the windows. They are old (and furniture, and curtains too), the view is horrible)))

Breakfast was good (omelette, waffles, meat patties, rice). They have parking and smoking area. Can't say anything about pool, we were there in February.

Good spot as it is actually pretty quiet and calm. Watch out for homeless people hiding in the parking spaces as they go there to sleep at night.

Great little place, especially for the price. Owner was super friendly and accommodating, rooms were clean (and included a fridge, microwave, large closet, and wood floors) and most important it was quiet. Great location and free breakfast! Would definitely stay here again.

Was looking for a place to rest for evening..all the rooms were booked in area, but the person who answered my call at the desk was gracious enough to provide me an alternative location. Maybe next time I can get the opportunity.

I stayed here for 2 nights with my husband and kids in July.
We had one of the closest rooms to the road.
Bad soundproofing with siren sounds all night, dirty room with a priori vomit on the walls, summary cleaning. Insects in the bathroom. Clim very noisy.
Breakfast was served in a rather dirty English snack.
I do not have a good memory of it.

I've been there in 2009 and enjoyed it a lot. Nice place, clean rooms. Going back this year!

Great motel, comfortable beds, wrong room . We had a balcony to the street, car was well in the parking lot, cute laid out. Breakfast next door was great for American standards. Waffles, burger meat, scrambled eggs, toast ... Hollywood Boulevard within walking distance. Pool laid out sweet. For a motel top. What do some expect for the location and the price? We felt well cared for.

This is an exceptional hotel. Friendly the rooms are large. Clean and neat. Recommendable.

Heard a lot of street traffic at night. Room cleaning services are a little iffy and the beds are very very firm. Located very close to a subway station, as well as restaurants. Breakfast provided at a restaurant right next door.

This experience was awful.The Hotel wouldn't accept the card that the website said to so upon check-in with ID. So I had to cancel and find another location.whivh sucked

Only giving 4 stars because the owner allowed us to back out with no charge. This is a 2 star motel. But the owner is kind and understanding that this wasn't the right motel for a tourist family of 5.

I had no idea this little place was in this location. The rooms were clean had a fridge & microwave & the shower was awesome.The customer service is the best that I have encountered in a very long time. And the place is so convenient to all the sights.

I was forced to stay here 1 night of my two night stay, and will never recommend this place to stay. The rooms are in terrible condition. The walls have patchwork on them not painted, the toilet feels like one you get from a public restroom, it s VERY loud at night. There is nothing peaceful and quiet or restful about this place.

Comparing to "Economy Inn" and "Hollywood Guest Inn" .Hollywood Downtowner Inn one is realy great :). Unfortunately breakfasts are poor, monotonous. But the price to quality ratio is very good

It was cheap for LA, but we didn't really get our money's worth. Parking was a great perk, and the guys working their were nice. Linty sheets, busted lamp, and bathroom doesn't have any counter space or racks. Weird motif, but that seems to be on purpose. Was kitschy for sure. Close walk to stuff, but sketchy neighborhood.

Our friends had a room there. Place could use an upgrade. Rates are inexpensive and you get what you pay for. Personally, I would look around and go someplace else. Pool was looking dirty. Coffee machine inside the room was not cleaned. AC was dripping water on the outside. No towels no water bottles offered inside room.

Good hotel, conveniently located near Lombard Street

I stayed here for two nights to attend a wedding nearby. Free breakfast, parking and wifi were key points that made me want to stay here. The room was clean but a little aged in places. We had a cigarette burn in the comforter. It was quiet and pleasant. There are a lot of stairs so it isn't a good spot for people with disabilities.

Wait staff were friendly and drinks came out quick. Bathrooms were big and very clean as well.

Nice hotel and staff. Parents had to move rooms from a big one to a smaller one due to a gas leak, but other than that decent.

Lady at front desk was really nice. The place had an old time Hollywood feel. Room was mostly clean.

The hotel is simple, it is clean (room 17), the best thing is its location, it is a step away from the walk of fame and Sunset Blv., The staff is attentive, the girl speaks Spanish, they stored our bags the last day until the night, in general quality good price. Having said that about the hotel I want to make it clear that breakfast should change local (it is served by an adjacent place called Catch 56, it is a disaster staff Steve Young, a pompous, repetitive and unprofessional pimp, waffles, toast burgers and eggs milkshakes, do not ask for anything different that ignores you, one day you ask for hot milk and you give it, but the second as you release a good tip ignores you, removes the oreo so you do not take more, etc. I repeat, the hotel well , but breakfast is better than changing premises or literally not offering it.

5 star room, clean tidy and everything worked (fridge, microwave and coffee maker)

3 star breakfast, was very greasy and not alot of options, no fresh fruit, cerial or granola. Coffee was mean and was in a fish and chip shop

The location is Fantastic, pool was relaxing. The continental breakfast they pride themselves on was a disapointment, no fruit, bagels, cereal or good coffee. Got locked out of my room at 12AM for 40 minutes and the owner could have cared less. When I asked for a comp for my inconvenience and having my 2 children freezing outside the owner replied I shouldn't have gotten the AAA discount because its summer season and gave me $10 off one night. Hotel is mediocre and honestly surprised how they even got AAA certified!

Everything is nearby, walk of fame, the sign, observatory, and the highway to santa monica

Smiling Happy Service! Very clean Pool parking on site not much space to park...But, there is parking. Well situated.

The whole building smelled like urine. It was so gross I couldn't stay in the room for over half a minute I swear, even though I booked for 3 nights. Not recommended at all. The sheets were dirty, and the smell was unbearable. I don't even know how this place is licensed. Ugh No human should live in an environment like that.

Friendly and courteous staff! We were there 9 nights, the first night on the street was very noisy but we were moved to a quieter and larger room. Parking lot great and the location 1A! Breakfast was included and good for the price!

Good place, as long as you keep your expectations down a bit. The cleaning is not perfect, good with pool on hot days, and quite a fair distance to the metro.

This is a gem of a place! Wonderful location in the heart of Hollywood. Clean, comfortable, reasonably priced and accessible to nearby attractions. Can easily walk to most attractions, dining and shopping. Will definately visit again. The staff are warm, friendly, helpful and accommodating. Could not ask for more!

My partner & I stayed here at the end of July last year. The room was clean, had an extremely comfortable bed and the staff were fantastic. Would definetly stay there again.
