We've booked a SPA day with virgin experience, our day started at 10.30 with a welcoming of pastries, coffee and tea that we've enjoyed looking at the stunning surrounding by the window.
There was a relaxed nice atmosphere from the entrance.
After the pastries, the friendly receptionist brought us to the swimming pool, at first we've got disappointed to see only a regular swimming pool and a sauna but at the end of the day that has been enough to get our mind and body very relaxed and we've enjoyed very much.

Very lovely hotel and would probably recommend it... BUT I left something behind (that I really loved and was new) and called up not long after to ask had it been recovered. To which they replied yes - as they knew what it was I had left behind, but they needed to ask the maid where she had put it. She told me she would call me back (when she had done so) and never did. When I called back up she told me the maid hadn't been yet and she would call me.. Obvs never did. Found it pretty shady tbh!

Comfortable place to stay to be sure, with lots of nice small rooms near the bar to spend your evening reading, or chatting and such. The downside is the "spa"-iness of the place. Very small and shallow pool useless for swimming, searing sauna with purple lighting, and no sign of a Jacuzzi available to us. It's also a moderate walk from the restaurant part of town, so you are tempted to stay with the hotel one.

Food was good, service a little eccentric, rooms fit the bill, not quite the spa hotel it wants to think it is.

I honestly have no idea why it is a 3 star hotel when in my experience and opinion, it should be 4. Nevertheless, we had a fantastic stay. The facilities are great, the room was recently refurbished and we really liked the decor. I love the welcome letter, which we found on the bed when we entered the room. It included a lot of local information and for someone who is new to this area, we found it to be a class touch. The staff we encountered were professional and friendly. They seemed a lilttle rushed at peak times but thats understandble as the dinner and breakfast times are only 2.5 and 2 hour windows respectively.
Anyway, I do not want to recommend as it will most probably make it harder and more expensive to book in the future but I can not fault the place. Praise is due to owners and management. Ps. I am a hotel manager and I am impressed.

Stayed here twice which is unusual for me as I like to try somewhere different but it is superb. The evening meal is excellent and the rooms are good, clean and comfortable. We also enjoyed the indoor pool and it is nice to sit in the conservatory and admire the views.

Excellent hotel, stayed in Room 30, well equipped, spotlessly clean bedroom and bathroom. Plenty of wardrobe space and scenic view from the window. Appetising selection of food on the dinner menu, breakfast caters for all tastes. Staff are friendly and welcoming. A first class hotel

11 of us attended the restaurant on Easter Sunday. We each had the 3 course set meal. Everyone was very impressed with both the food and the service. The hock ham scotch egg starter was amazing. It was our second visit and we hope to return again.

We were only staying for one night, but the hotel couldn't have been better, lovely rooms, excellent reception rooms and very efficient and friendly staff. Would recommend highly - shame we weren't staying longer so we could have used the leisure facilities - maybe next time!

We have dogs and were told they would be welcomed. We were not allowed in all the rooms due to having the dogs. The dogs got a small bag with a ball and two chew sticks in them , no drinking bowels or beds all at a charge of 40 pounds each for the two nights. I had previously been in and told 40 pounds for the two very small dogs. Initially the room had no bath in it as expected only a shower, to their credit they relocated us to another room with a bath in it. The room was pleasant, clean and cosy. The food was amazing can not fault the service or
Breakfast. Room not serviced and very disappointing,we had been out all day and expected to return to a clean room which was not the case. They did offer for us to leave the room to then service it at 15.30 but this was not suitable to us . A drink in the bar was also offered but we were shattered walking back from town . Towels changed . Toilet rolls replaced dirty glasses taken away.we had to aske for these things to be done. This was a post engagement break for us so it was very special and the rating of the hotel influenced us to stay here. So very very disappointing and we do go away alot but have never had to complain about anything before. I did begin to feel all I did was moaning all the time when all I wanted was a relaxing engagement treat for ourselves .looking through other reviews we feel very unlucky with our experience. Maybe it would have bee different not having our dogs as they seem to limit our options within the hotel .

It's okay. We were given a room that looked out on to the reception entrance and asked to move as we felt it would be noisy if wanting to sleep in, which the reception staff were good about accommodating. The room we were moved to was a good size but very hot at night (despite it being quite cold and raining outside) and no opportunity to change the temperature with aircon, radiator etc.

At times the staff didn't seem very happy, particularly at breakfast when it was busy, and we heard staff being quite short with guests at times. Other times they were fine but I felt uncomfortable asking for anything after overhearing these conversations.

It would have been nice to have a gluten-free cereal option and for the dirty cups to be replaced in the room once used.

Nice views and bar area. Good location for Windermere and surrounding area.

My wife and I have just returned from three days in the Lakes staying at the Hillthwaite hotel, given that we have spent two weeks at Lake Garda this year it came as no surprise that we tend to forget just how wonderful the locations are on our own doorstep. Windermere is stunning which was made better by the fact we stayed at a great hotel in room 33. The room surpassed out expectations with its size and facilities, the food was fabulous and indulgent across the entire menu. The welcome was warm and nothing was to much trouble.
To the team from the Hillthwaite we would like to say thank you for a wonderful stay.

regards Keith Newman & Louise Hood

Great hotel with fantastic views great location and special mention to the kitchen staff the food was first class and Harry great service. Not a big pool but perfect for unwinding after the slightly steep climb to the hotel and the room was clean and very comfortable. Would recommend staying here.

This was a last minute booking and I am so glad we went there. The room was cosy but we knew it would be, it suited us. The staff were very courteous. The evening dinner was a very high standard, and gluten free was not a problem. If you are looking for somewhere a bit special, this could be for you. It also has a pool and a sauna!

I never usually take the time to write a review , however, out of all the hotels ive stayed in this has certainly deserved a comment.
A beautiful hotel with beautful views, not far from the city centre (either a stroll ot a 5 minute taxi). The restaurant was lovely and all the staff were extremely helpful.
The quality of service was amazing overall, the best service we have had ever had. The receptionists and restaurant staff was welcoming , freindly and all give 110% to ensure your request were met.
I look forward to our next visit.

Very comfortable room, excellent food and ambience with friendly staff. Brilliant location, within walking distance of Bowness and Windermere. The elevated position of the hotel results in spectacular views from the dining room.

Restaurant service very slow, often bringing different food to what you ordered, bar staff take your order for drinks and don't arrive with them, I had to fetch them my self after 25min, waiting. We had the drinks free. Reception ladies very good & helpful. Cleaner's need to up their game, bed looked a mess, bath had hairs in it. Not good is it.

My partner treated me to an overnight stay at this fabulous hotel. It was wonderful from start to finish. Freshly baked scones on arrival and a bottle of chilled Prosecco waiting for us in the room.

I've stayed in many a hotel over the years and even some of the 5 star hotels struggle to make you feel as welcome as Hillthwaite do.

Loved this place first time I visited but not so much this time. Food quality for dinner was for the most part good but waited far too long at dinner and then again at breakfast. Breakfast was not great either with the scrambled eggs melted to a burning hot plate and the sausage looking less than appealing (like the frozen kind). At dinner it was 30 mins before anyone asked us about drinks. Shame as the staff are nice and the rooms are lovely. Its a good location as well with a short walk into Windermere. Think it would have to be a very good deal to get me to go there again
