Highland Animal Clinic Review

I have been a loyal customer since we moved to anchorage over 4 years ago. Until my dog developed a serious illness and couldn t get an appointment when I really needed one most! I was told to go to the pet emergency. What is the point of developing a relationship With your vet when you can t get an urgent appointment for 6 days?

Bulk my cat and my dog had been in for their yearly checkup, and had received a good health certificate; within 3 weeks I had discovered this was not so. They argued that these were new symptoms, impossible due to progression.. made a new appointment, which they canceled with out notice; to our detriment as this was an ASAP appointment. My pets, our family's health was worth more than that. This is not the same clinic as the one I grew up with
Would give it zero stars but you have to give it at least one to leave a review.

All of my animals are seen here. They receive prompt, personal care. The facilities are clean and well maintained and the services are affordable.

This is the best Veterinarian in Anchorage. I have taken my pups here for the past 10 years and highly recommend Highland Animal Clinic. Dr. Jen and her staff are professional, knowledgeable, helpful and downright amazing. You can t go wrong with Highland.

This clinic has the most compassionate staff I have ever seen. We lost our little Jack Russell Terrier of 16.5 years this month. They were there for our family and provided a great amount of support and comfort. We have taken our dogs to this practice for over 30 years and they have always been so professional. I highly recommend this practice.

We have received excellent care at Highland Animal Clinic for all three of our dogs! The staff are friendly and very helpful!

The doc's are good with the animals, but I feel like I have to bring my dog in multiple trips costing more money. She's been in multiple times this last year, and they want her to come in for a wellness check to get a prescription renewed. I'm going elsewhere after 6 years as I am feeling like it's a bit of a money grab there.

No wait time. Thorough exam. Dr. found problem and prescribed meds quickly.

I've got a pup who requires a lot of medical interventions and Dr. Jen is amazing - I'm so thankful to have a vet who cares as much about our girl as we do!

Clinic is extremely clean, no odor and the staff is professional, friendly and polite. Doctors explained in depth procedures and health care of my pet

Horrible experience. It appears that they just want to make there money off of their name brand prescriptions and make it very unnecessarily difficult/time consuming for you to order generic brands from outside pharmacies (reputable ones like Costco). I expected better when multiple friends referred me to this Alaskan owned clinic. I specifically looked for a locally owned clinic, when changing from VCA clinic, but I am truly disappointed...

Everything was great. They are professional, patient, and thorough. More than pleased with Highland Animal Clinic.

Love this group for veterinarian wouldn't take my dog anywhere else

We have been taking our pets, dogs and cats, to Highland Animal Clinic for years. Dr. Jenn and her entire team is caring, responsive and highly professional. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a vet for their fur babies.

Best vet ever, we saw dr john and we are so grateful for this man! Hes a breath of fresh air, a wonderful, humble man who I thought was absolutely amazing. I'm so happy someone referred us to him. I also loved the staff as they all seems so nice and easy to deal with. The prices are more than fair and the care for your fur babies is outstanding!

Very attentive staff. My pet has separation anxiety and I feel confident bringing her here.

Been going there for over 20 years. Wouldn't take our furbabies anywhere else unless it was an emergency after hours situation.

Been going here for years and years. Doctor Tuomi is wonderful and took fantastic care of my boxer from the time she was born until we lost her. The staff is always pleasant and helpful.

My husband and I want to thank you for your care of our dog Murray. So hard losing a member of the family. Murray was with us for 15 years. And in those 15 years you always took very good care of him.
Your condolence card meant a lot to us.

Dr Jen is an awesome Vet, always very honest and does an awesome job with all of my 6 Mals and receptionist David has always been very helpful and super nice as well I highly recommend!!

We have been going to Highland Animal Clinic for decades. Dr. Jen Tuomi is wonderful as was her father before her. Dr. Krellner seems like the same sort of personable and helpful vet that fits with the practice. The Covid protocols are very good and I feel very safe dropping off my pets to have them looked at, even if I am not allowed in the clinic. The techs and vets and office staff are all friendly and helpful and even my very nervous rescue dog was happy to going in and coming out. The staff said they had no problems with her which says so much about how wonderful they are.

The veternary staff at highland is wonderful I've been taking my dogs there for over 10 years and never had a problem. The area has always been clean, the staff very friendly, and they really care about your dog's well being.

One really has to trust staff in these corona 19 days. One drops off your dog at the door then come back to claim when done. Shadow ended up with an eye destroying problem which lead to surgery, eye removal. I had to trust that he would receive good care while I waited at home. I'm grateful that vet clinics are able to figure out ways to keep their staff safe, yet meet emergency issues for our animals.

I had called several places around town as my usual vet was several weeks out and my dog was having ear troubles. He is prone to moist ears and worsens very quickly. I called the clinic and the young lady on the phone took some info and said they were a little under a week and told her we would take the appointment and if they had any cancellations to give me a call and we would be right down. Before the call ended a cancellation occurred and they got us in 30 mins later. Truly outstanding service and very reasonable prices. Will be my new home for my 6yr old guy Jaeger. Thanks again to the doc and staff!

Highland has been my veterinarian of choice for years. They took excellent care of both of my cats from the time I got each of them up until both died from natural causes. They are always caring and knowledgeable. When my youngest cat was sick near the end of her life, they advised me how best to make her comfortable and taught me tip and tricks to get her to eat and deficate when both of those were difficult for her.

When I ended up with a dog, I had no question in my mind of where I would get her taken care of; all her care is also done her. They get an A+ for taking care of her and her nails. She's a Manchester Terrier and very, very nervous about getting nail trims. She squirms and yelps like it's the end of the world but the vet here always manages to get them taken care of and has only nicked her quick once (and we've done this dozens on times).

Overall 5/5. Highland is everything I could ask for in a vet. So long as I am in Anchorage, Highland will be my vet of choice.

Beest possible animal Care. Dr. Jen is skilled and respectful of an owner's values. Too many vets will attempt to shame an owner into expensive care. Dr.. Jen gave options and listened.

I have been going to this clinic for nearly 20 years and was pretty satisfied but of late , because of the fact that there is only one vet on staff, it is difficult to get in and therefor I have been sent to other vets for care
Some of the support staff is wonderful; some not so -with very poor bedside manner . Had a recent emergency with my little chihuahua and was treated horribly.could not get any straight answers and when asked for more input from the vet, I was rudely told she didn t have any time and I would have to deal with that.. during one phone call while my dog was there, I was put on hold multiple times so that the tech could get info from someone who knew more. A requested call back from the vet herself never came.
Because I expressed some frustration, I was asked to take my pets elsewhere.
This was a great practice when Jack and Pam were there; it is no longer .
I ve switched to VCA alpine ,where I was sent when highland couldn t get me in( all too often)
The staff there is amazing; they have 4 vets present at all times except for Saturday when there are three
They were consistently welcoming and took their time with my animals. At Highland it has lately been a rush in rush out, and rarely did I not have to wait a good 10-15 minutes after appointment time to be seen
Alpine s receptionists are consistently friendly.
I cannot say the same for Highland. It s the luck of the draw - most are lovely, but one is overbearing , rude and moody.
I was sorry to leave a place that I had trusted for so long; but it s no longer the same.

This clinic was highly recommended to me so I called them regarding an injury my dog had sustained two weeks prior (and been seen by another vet for). They spoke with me on the phone for 15 minutes, offering suggestions and input, and ultimately recommended another clinic that would be better suited to what they felt my dog needed, as well as more likely to have room for us immediately. To be seen at Highland we would have had to wait about 5 days but after hearing about my dog they thought it was important he be seen sooner rather than later. They provided me with lots of information, reassured me, and answered all of my questions, knowing full well I was unlikely to bring my dog in for that injury. I highly recommend this clinic and will absolutely take my dog here for his future medical care needs.

I really loved this place. Until December. They mis-scheduled my dog's appointment (had him for nail trim not ear infection) so I had to reschedule weeks in the future. My life fell apart and I had to reschedule a couple times . They threatened to stop seeing my pets if I missed the next appointment. My pets were in a house fire yesterday. The vet my children use got their pets in immediately. When I called here I was told they could be seen NEXT THURSDAY. Very disappointed to have to find a new vet at this point in my situation. Guess I will be headed to the one they always get confused with.....

Everything was great! Your family has taken care of our fur babies since 1996 and we trust you with their care. Even during this difficult pandemic time, everything was handled with compassion and safety and I'm grateful to continue our partnership in the care of our critters!

I was overjoyed at Dr Jen Tuomy and the technicians who shaved Kiwi. The visit could not have been better. Dr Tuomy is very smart and cares about my fur babies. The team works very well together.

Dr. Pam Tuomi has been our family vet for as long as I can remember. She and her staff are outstanding and compassionate animal lovers. Today we put our family pet to rest and the experience they provided was kind, patient and in my opinion perfect. They are so kind, we also have a four-year-old lab and a eight month old Russell terrier. Every time there s an ear infection or something needs to be addressed they get us right in and solve the problem wonderfully I m happy to report our pets/family members are in great health and we owe it to this clinic. I would recommend to anybody looking for a vet highland animal clinic. Always so kind and a smile every time you are greeted at the door. Thank you doctor Tuomi and staff for everything you all are amazing!

I appreciate the quick response from all staff, especially the vet tech Chrishawna. Having an animal that is hurt and in pain for the first time has been extremely stressful and they have all been very helpful in answering my questions and developing a treatment plan for my cat.

Great place. Has a family feel to it. I've been taking my dogs here for more than a decade. The doctors are friendly & knowledgeable. And, the staff is always willing to go that "extra mile" to ensure your pet is given the attention & care they need whether it's an emergency surgery, or just a scheduled check-up. Reliably excellent.

Made an eye appointment for my dog. They are not our vet, but they have an eye dr. There at times. Super kind receptionist there.

Dr. Brightman is amazing. He truly cares about helping animals out. Especially those with eye issues. We were first referred to him when our hound developed glaucoma. He has been with us every step of the way and is always reachable for questions or concerns. Great staff as well.
