Heritage Auction Galleries Review

Called today about a few items that I found . Some vintage baseball autographs and signed paperwork. Was treated as if I was wasting their time because it wasn t worth millions of dollars. As I was explaining to them what I had I was told they had another call interrupted and hung up on. Was told that what I have likely does not hold enough value for them to consider auctioning yet several items have Heritage Auction lot and auction numbers so they sold it at some point. I would not do business with them for any amount of money based on the level of service I received in two separate calls.

I have been using Heritage Auctions for more than a decade. Being in Australia it's wonderful to be able to access the quirky, unusual items I'm interested in. The site, the emails, the tracking, bidding & payment process are so easy. The best thing is that my product always arrives quickly and packed in a way it could never possibly be damaged. I love this company.

I have been on their mailing list for about 2 years. I never requested to be on their list in the first place. I have returned their mailings and called on numerous occasions and requested they remove my name and address. They still haven't done it yet. Why would anyone want to do business with these people when their marketing is not professional.

Great selection and website is easy to use. Postage and shipping charges are too high for a small purchase.

I have participated in several auctions by Heritage. Won some, lost some, but have always been happy with how the auctions went. The graded baseball cards I have won, have always been packed for shipping safely, and shipped quickly. Am very happy with all my communications and procedures between Heritage and myself.

I'm bidding from Canada and did find the registration process rather extensive however from there on, it was 5 Star Service with a quality auction. I did have a winning bid for in house packing and shipping. Everything arrived in a clean carton wrapped better than I've ever seen with any other pack and ship services in the past 18 years. I am impressed with the entire operation as it was 'slick' in a nice way.

Fantastic place to buy original comic book art. Very precise and reliable descriptions, five start packaging and shipment (I bought from France and Singapore), and very effective customer service !

Great website and very user-friendly app. Auctions items are easy to preview and live bidding is smooth and trouble free. I'd like to see buyer commissions stop increasing as a percentage of sales.

I have bought and sold coins using Heritage Auctions for many years and I highly recommend their coin auction services.

What a nightmare to deal with. Won an auction then immediately received an offer on the item. Agreed to terms, heritage received payment from other buyer then demanded payment from me as well. Who gets paid twice on an item? Heritage apparently. I don t have the money to pay for items other people already paid for. Trying to settle with heritage and they tact d on an extra $800 in fees after an invoice was sent. After years of assisting heritage in value evaluations and numerous consignments it s safe to say a great relationship was severed.

I called first to register so that I could "phone bid" on October 1 for the Connie Francis Collection. I called a couple of other times with various questions. Everyone with whom I spoke was kind, courteous and helpful. On the day of the auction, a young lady called me right before the item I wanted was to go up....she stayed on the phone with me and I won the sweater set that I reallllllly wanted. Everyone gave me excellent service: and the person who called me for the telephone bidding was super-sweet and seemed to be as happy for me as I was for myself. I received the items about 2 weeks later.

Heritage is our go to for appraisals. Hands down, the BEST!

Excellent choice of items, continually! Would be 5 stars if the buyer's premium were reduced to a more acceptable amount. Many times its' additional charge prevents me from continuing my bids!!

I won an Auction for 2 original page of art and was very pleasantly surprised when I received an additional page. I reached out and they were quick to confirm the third piece. I imagine this is not the norm but the exception. But none the less it will keep me as a customer for a long time to come.

I have been buying from Heritage for 15 years. They have a GREAT selection of many kinds of collectibles. I recommend them to every collector.

I bid and purchased an art glass bowl via LiveAuctioneers on June 4, 2020. Due to Heritage Auctions' move to a new location and a COVID-19 shortage of help in the shipping department, the item did not arrive at our home until July 1st. I had to make several calls to the auction house to make that happen before our vacation. The heavy bowl was extremely well packed and a beautiful addition to our collection. Everyone I spoke to at the auction house was very courteous. If the shipping process hadn't taken so long, I would have given them a five star rating. I would not hesitate to use this auction house again.

Terrible company to deal with. Asked them to change address for an item which hasn't even shipped and they refuse to. Before bidding I didn't realise it had my old address but changing an address shouldn't be an issue. Would never bid on any item ever again. My suggestion for anyone who wins a bid don't pay them any money if anything is incorrect as dealing with them is difficult. I'm sure I'm not the only once that they have scammed.

Excellent service, fast shipping of won lots after payment. The buyers premium is quite a bit higher than other auction sites (double than another I use) Being cautious with your bids is important with a 20% premium. Shipping / handling rates are higher than other sites as well so keep that in mind as well. Overall though, great place to buy collectibles of all kinds.

I've been buying comic books from HA for years. With the new increase, (Buyer's Premium per Lot A Buyer's Premium will be added to each successful bid. For this sale: 20% of the successful bid (minimum $19) per lot.) I don't think I'll buy from them much longer. What a shame, it's to difficult for collectors to get a good deal :(

Prompt, concise, professional. While my art did not qualify, their interaction was exactly what I needed to move forward. I highly recommend Heritage Auctions.

Selling stolen artwork and refusing to compensate the artist. Anything sold on their site should be required to prove authenticity of ownership before it is sold. I tried communicating through email with them about this and they just stopped communicating back when I told them the pieces of mine they sold were stolen from me.

barely contacted, but their so call no so European art specialists are clueless. They couldn't tell a canvas painting from print. Suppose that free estimate is worthless. Course I could tell you how to tell the difference, but my estimates aren't free, neither are lessons.

Please do NOT believe the absurd review that falsely states that Heritage has fake shill bidders. On occasion, two or more bidders will get into a bidding war and thus drive up prices to record high levels. To judge an auction company by a mere one out of five million prices realized is highly unscientific. I have been dealing Heritage for decades yet have never had a bad experience and have won many bargains. The other bad reviews are also an uniformed joke. Or some may have been written by crooked competitors. Heritage is the best of the best. Their auctions are very exciting, whether in-person or online. Heritage is the go-to auction house for collectibles. Their website is light years ahead of everyone else's. There are many other reasons why Heritage has owned 70% of the market for many years.

I would not have spent staggering sums at this great firm had I not trusted them. They are a huge company, so they have untold thousands of orders to fill every week. Thus, there may be a day or two delay before they ship your order. And Heritage's terms are exactly the same as any other major auction company's. When you buy from any major auction, it is not a retail transaction. It is a final sale but you usually pay less than retail, sometimes far less. As such, you are not going to receive the perks of a retail transaction, such as a 30-day return privilege and same-day shipping. Again, the few complaints are absurdly ignorant and/or fake.

I have bought comic art a few times here, the fees can be a little high but I would rather pay a little more for the expertise of this auction house than to play the game of risk that is eBay. You can bid with confidence here.

I am extremely happy with the descriptions and photos of the ancient coins on their site, which is my particular area of interest. I have found them to be efficient, courteous and prompt. However, my only complaint is the high cost of sending a small coin to NZ....over 50 US dollars.

I have been buying vintage comics from Heritage for over 10 years. This is a well run organization. Literally never had a bad experience with the 50-100 lots I have purchased over the years.

This firm is an excellent auction house in every respect . Great website , easy to navigate , register , bid , and buy . Descriptions of items are very good and shipping is prompt . Excellent communications before , during , and after sales . I would recommend this firm to anyone interested in auctions .

HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL.

[edit: I am raising the rating from 2* to 4* because they apologized, they acknowledged they gave me consistently incorrect information, and they refunded the shipping cost, and because their packaging was very secure on huge items. I am leaving the below review intact.]

I just paid $8,000 in HA fees (buyer's premium) only to have them continually mislead me. I was concerned, if they delayed shipping, these very large items would arrive too close to a departure date where I could not receive the items.

I bought very large items on Sat, 3/09. I paid HA first thing in the morning on 3/11 by wire transfer because their paperwork says that will make shipping faster. Vicky Ruiz confirmed receipt of payment and said the items will ship "within 5-7 business days" (meaning 3/15 to 3/19).

Did they ship? No.

I called and spoke with Sabrina Zatanna on Tuesday 3/19. She said just give it a little more time, and reach back to her if I didn't get any email tracking info.

Did they ship? No!

At the end of the week, I called Sabrina again on Friday 3/22, and was told it still wasn't shipped (its been 10 business days) and that it now was too late to ship until next week! What kind of operation are they running?

I reminded them, again, I needed the items no later than 3/27 to not conflict with plans where I will be unavailable to receive these large, expensive, fragile items. Sabrina Zatanna assured me the shipment would be sent Monday 3/25 and that they were "pushing it thru" as express to ensure it would be in our hands on Wednesday 3/27. I told them I am clearing my entire schedule to be able to accept these expensive huge items on this date.

I called the shipping company on Monday 3/25 to make sure the items were shipped expedited. Nope. I asked if they will arrive on Wednesday 3/27. Probably not. None of what HA told me was happening. Not scheduled to arrive on that time frame. Not scheduled as "express" or "expedited". I emailed Sabrina on Monday about making sure these will arrive on Wednesday, and that the shipping company's info conflicts with what she told me. ...no reply from Sabrina.

I called with HA.... again.... but "NO SUPERVISORS ARE AVAILABLE". So I told the whole story to a new person, and made sure they called the shipping company, while I was on hold, to ensure it would arrive on 3/27 as I was assured and that they were going "expedited". I even gave them the number for the "expedited department". After a long time on hold (where they checked in with me) they told me they got it straight and indeed it will arrive on Wednesday 3/27.

Guess what? Today is Wednesday 3/27.

Are the items here today? No.
Are the items arriving today? No.

Heritage Auctions could have shipped the items on 3/11, 3/12, 3/13, 3/14, 3/15, 3/18, 3/19, 3/20, 3/21, 3/22.... but no, for your $8,000 buyer's premium paid by wire transfer, you are put at the back of the line, and told lots of inaccurate info, and suggestions to "just wait a little longer" the whole time.

I am encouraging everyone reading to consider whether or not this would be acceptable for them. If yes, by all means do business with them.

Overall excellent, would prefer if Heritage Auctions had dedicated customer service department. Surprising Heritage Auctions doesn't have dedicated customer service department that handles questions, billing issues, etc., on an immediate basis.

Heritage is the single most trustworthy and reliable auction site of the many that I have dealt with. The staff are always knowledgeable , professional and pleasant to deal with. I recommend Heritage without the slightest reservation for both buying and selling.

Being in UK was concerned how bidding and shipping would be actioned. I have to advise excellent service, would not hesitate in recommending Heritage auctions to anyone.

I deal with several auction houses for my poster collection, and Heritage is, without doubt, the most professional of them all. I'll never know how they manage to offer such a wide range of quality lots, and their packing and shipping with such an efficient and timely delivery. They are simply THE BEST!

I tried a few coins but they will get NO more 17.5 % commissions, plus shipping and handling charges from me. Unless the coins have the CAC green bean I am getting the feeling Heritage is a clearing house for over-graded and problem junk coins. That is my experience. Do not believe their "problem free" descriptions, they are contractually meaningless. Plus they are most arrogant people to deal with. Success breeds that in some folks.

This is one of their terms of buying: If this invoice is not paid in full when due, the unpaid balance will bear interest at the highest rate permitted by law from the date of invoice until paid. THE HIGHEST PERMITTED BY LAW! Nice people huh?

They consistently have a great selection of comics to tempt me! Purchased books are always as described and always very well packed!

I have bought numerous items through Heritage Auctions and have found them to be a great auction house. Some specifics:

- their auction descriptions are accurate and extremely well-curated
- their customer support answers questions quickly
- whomever does their packing is meticulous and thorough

If you are thinking about purchasing, I recommend them!

I have consigned sports cards and collector coins to Heritage with excellent results, and won items at auctions hosted by Heritage. Unlike eBay, you can be confident that the items on offer at Heritage have been examined by experts and determined to be authentic. These people don't work for free, however, so if you are looking for bargains, go to garage sales and take your chances. Like Sotheby's or Christie's and other high-end auction houses, Heritage's buyers' premiums, service charges and FedEx shipping and insurance add to buyer's costs. But you only get what you pay for.

I have consigned (2) 1943 Bronze cents and they got the market maximum for me. Even putting the coins on the auction catalog. The description was very detailed and the photos were the best. Their catalog is best in the business. At the auction they worked the crowd and internet bids and got great numbers.

I've had a great experience buying vintage baseball cards from Heritage Auctions. Everything is well organized and it's easy to find what I'm looking for. Since Heritage is shipping the cards to me, I don't have to worry about how some random person will be sending them. Everything I have received has been packed super securely. I've never had an issue getting exactly what I expected when I bid in an auction.

Good customer service. Website a little hard to navigate but manageable. Good experience overall.

This is the only place I do business with for vintage comics. Where grading can make a difference of a hundred dollars, there is no reason I would waste my time with e-bay or other places. With Heritage, I can bid with confidence knowing that what I will receive is AT LEAST in the description described if not better. Plus, they can hold all my orders like that I can either ship them all at once to save on shipping or keep some there in case I prefer to sell through them. I did have 1 issue once but they went all out of their way to help me and make things right. Highly recomended.

Great auction items and excellent customer service. Specializes in coins, but also handles sports memorabilia, original artwork, rare minerals, autographs, fine wines, and virtually any valuable collectible. I especially appreciate that I can come to the HQ to pick up most of my winnings without having to risk them being damaged or lost in the mail.

I thought I had an error coin I submitted them a photo and within a day they determined that it was just a damaged coin very helpful

Love Heritage Auctions! Have been a member for two years after signing up at CSNS in Schaumburg.
But only just recently have I started bidding online and WOW, such a better selection of quality and Rare coins than ebay!
Wish I'd started bidding sooner.
Just wish you could use heritage live bid right from the app and shipping seems high. But other than that, great company to work with.
