Fantastic experience! 3 out the 4 of us knew nothing about Hemingway and still loved it. They do a great job of social distancing: only 10 per group. Our guide (I believe it was Daniel?) was awesome: he gave a lot of extra insights, not just the standard tour. When you keep the attention of two teenagers, you're doing something right. A must do!
Interesting ... plenty of freedom to roam ...enjoyed seeing his writing room. The lighthouse across the street was a bonus. Go to both
KEY WEST IS KEY WEST BECAUSE OF THE ARTISTS HERE. NONE GREATER THAN HEMINGWAY. AMAZING PROPERTY/MUSEUM
Interesting - especially if you want to see the cats...55 of them when we visited
Went for the cats and was not disappointed! There are around 60 cats roaming the grounds. The gardens are beautiful and I had the best tour guide! She was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. A must do for key west!
Loved it. Great tour. Lots of funny stories about his great adventures.
"You must have been. To be honest, I have not been very impressed by this visit. Like many attractions in the USA you pay pretty, now $ 14 p.p. and in this case we were outside within 30 minutes. Fans of Ernest will most likely be enthusiastic, fine.
SO. MANY. CAAATS. In all seriousness, though, it was a great tour; the merch is nothing to scoff at, either.
Fun to learn about Papa in his own habitat. Our guide was engaging and knowledgeable and the tour wasn't overdone. I gained respect for Hemingway's work ethic despite his nightly bar visits and was inspired to read up more on his life. This tour is a very Key West thing to do. The cats are cool too.
Very cool historical tour of Earnest Hemingway and Key West.
Best time to go is first thing in the morning, especially in the summer. It's AC in the house but outside can be hot due to winds blocked from walls and topiary.
If your going to the key West aquarium too, the aquarium sells a discounted tickets to both.
Super crowded but tours are well run and house is beautiful with good history to it. Just a bit pricey for the quick 30min tour.
Not familiar with the work of Haminguey, therefore, squeezed 12 bucks for the entrance. But the dude was the first in the area with such a dacha.
Excellent trip back in time. Guide was fantastic. Well worth it!
If you haven't been yet then you are better to visit but I wouldn't visit twice.
Nice place to visit. Better than the little White House I Key West. Get to wonder the whole property on your own or as part of a tour. The tour guide was a bit too much to handle but otherwise good.
Interesting history. Do the tour if you haven't been before. You'll get additional tidbits of information.
It's a pilgrimage. Cannot visit the keys without taking in the hemingway house.
Can just walk around on your own, but I recommend taking guided tour.
Awesome tourist attraction very glad I went seeing all the cats was awesome
The tour was informative, I recommend you do the Hop on Hop off trolley tour to get around to see this and other attractions.
It was very fun and i really enjoyed the tour and the cats
The lady from the entrance was very unfriendly with the people
The best and the funnest tour I have taken in Key West. ALL of the staff members where very friendly and extremely informative. The entry fee was very reasonable for the amount of things you can do and see. I had such an AWESOME time, and I will definitely recommend this tour to my friends and family, and will defiantly be coming back. I was there for about and hour, and I still don't think that I saw everything and read all of the posters. The book store is a great place to find a gift for anybody who is a Hemingway fan, like myself. I think I saw about ten of the numerous polydactyl cats, and I took pictures of ALL of them.
It's everything you think it would be. Tropical, full of history and run by cats Beautiful gardens and scenery, well worth the visit
Wear covered shoes! Cant tell you how many times my feet were stepped on by other tourists...if you are claustrophobic dont do the guided tour, they shove you together in corners and because people arent paying attention they step on you! Otherwise a great place to visit..enjoy !
Great historic house and gardens and writing room. His polydactyl cats were on my bucket list. Go early to miss crowds.
If you love history what a perfect place to go. I was wondering how all those houses looked inside. It is a time travel. Oh and the cats. Six fingers that's unique!
Very cool place to walk around. Costs $$$ to get in to though but if you're interested in getting a small insight into Mr. Hemingway's life, this is a great place to go. Plus it has lots of kittys you can pet
A must see! The bald male tour guide was absolutely the best. I forget his name, but he was detailed and passionate about the Hemingway story. I would recommend saving this history tour for last because after it, all of the other tours seem a bit dull. The last cent was interesting and humorous. This place is great for Hemingway enthusiasts and for those who have no clue who he is.
The tour is great. Well kept. The pool was modernized and seems like it was done to make it usable. I saw it years ago and it was in it's original salt water state as it was when Mr. Hemingway lived there. It was a little unsettling to see lights and a filtration system running. Otherwise excellent tour, house and a nice gift shop in the guest house.
A very informative place about this great author. There are dozens of cats on the premise which are an attraction by themselves as many of them are six toed.
Excellent tour. This was the highlight of our visit to key west. This is a MUST see!!
On the island of Kay West it is possible to admire one of the writer's houses. Although the exterior is very beautiful, the swimming pool is not very nice, for example, and inside it is a bit bare. But there are also the famous cats that wander around the house.
Chris was an amazing tour guide. I love that you can spend as much time at the house as you please. It is also absolutely beautiful.
I LOVE this place!! Well worth the price if you take your time exploring and like either Ernest Hemingway, Southern architecture and/or cats! I visited the museum to play with the cats and my expectations were exceeded! There are so many gentle, healthy and friendly cats on the premises. There are plenty of outdoor spaces to sit and relax while enjoying the landscaping and playful cats. Cats that want to be pet sit near walking paths and benches. You will also be pleased to discover many cats relaxing behind the bushes, in cat houses and even in the trees! They also have a vet on staff and I could tell they were all well loved and cared for. Great experience!!
Remarkable historic home and museum. A must-see, not just for Hemingway fans & English majors, but for anyone interested in the history of the early part of the 20th century. Hemingway was the prototype of the larger-than-life author/adventurer, and you can feel his ghostly presence in every room of the house. The cats, of course, are a favorite part of the tour. The cats all appeared to be in excellent health. And the gift shop was tiny but had many interesting items. This place is rich in history. Visit.
****
Beautiful place to tour.
The entrance is paid in cash.
The guide explains about each sector of the house. The tour lasts approx 30 min.
Recommended place to visit.
A very nice, extensive and complete tour of the house and grounds. The guides were very knowledgeable about all things Hemingway. Plenty of Ernest's favorite animal (cats) still roam the grounds and home. Allow at least an hour to tour the home and grounds.
Fun to see a museum with resident lounging cats. They sure are laid back.
Wow! For $14 one of the best things I've done in Key West. Well worth the money for some very cool history. Admission includes the tour so you're not gonna need to spend anything else once you get inside. I'd definitely do it again!
This is worth doing to see all of the beautiful polydactyl kitties. They hire great tour guides and treat the cats so well! Don't miss it!
Go early and take the tour. Really interesting and extra fun if you love cats
Just finished a guided tour given by Doug. Let me say he did a terrific job. Very passionate and full of information!!
If you like cats, it's heaven. If not, you better have Vicks to wear under your nose.
Nice to be able to go to see some parts of his life.
Unfortunately we could only see the house from the outside, inside was closed at the time of our trip, unfortunately due to renovation ...
But still, the house convinced from the outside, with charm and history, as well as a well-kept, extravagant garden ...!
Super interesting and the cats....ooooh the cats are wonderful!! Our tour guide was extremely informative.
Excellent female tour guide.
She knows how to perform a show.
Pretty nice place.
We walked to the house, big mistake a few 100m away, a parking slot is ava.
Which takes only 4 dollar per hour.
I highly recommanded this Location.
And guys listen to the story, hemmingway seems to know best, how to deal with womans :)
It was everything I was hoping for, and then some. Had some fear it would just be another tourist trap stripped of all its original charm, but it delivered. I opted for going it alone at my own pace, but the tour guides I overheard seemed to really know their stuff and were entertaining. You'll have a great time regardless. I think entrance fees were about $10/adult, half for kids, and somewhere in between for seniors. There are as many cats as you'd imagine.
To see to know details of the life of a Nobel prize that has changed modern literature!
Absolutely worth it! Awesome tour and all the cats were friendly and beautiful! Glad we made time to go!
Cats! Tropical landscaping! Many other humans! History! And a little gift shop referred to as a bookstore.
Several trips to see this place. Enjoyed each trip and the cats.
We went on Sunday morning at 9am ...before checking out the hotel and it was the best decision ever ... Tour was about 30 minutes and the your guy was amazing! So passionate!!
The tour was very interesting and the tour guide was very intelligent and spoke loudly. However, there were over 25 people on our tour group and it made the tour really crowded and hard to see everything. I wish they would limit the group sizes to fix this issue.
It may not be the most amazing historic place for some, but for me it was a dream. To see the room where Hemingway wrote his masterpieces, and to walk around the same rooms where he once lived was fascinating. I almost cried realizing this dream. The atmosphere is warm and inspiring. The grounds are well kept, the staff members are knowledgable and the cats adorable and friendly. I did not take the free guided tour that was offered as it had already started, but I over heard some parts, and I highly recommend it.
... obligatory stop for those who visit the Key West islands, a small well-kept and well-kept residence, is very suited to the style of Hemingway, sags the high cost of entry about $ 20 (adults) ... makes desistere many tourists from visit it ...
Way too expensive for something that you could put your camera over the top of the wall and take pictures of
