So glad we did this before we left Memphis. Our guide was excellent and made the slaves stories come alive. I had the pleasure of touring with a group of college kids, their reactions, expressions and comments were priceless to watch. I forget the history of slavery is not something they know much of unfortunately. I truly recommend this for everyone so the horrors of slavery are never forgotten.

Very moving experience. The guides are excellent and passionate about sharing their knowledge. The stories you will hear are both heartbreaking and courageous. You may get shivers down your spine, you may even shed a few tears; but you will leave empowered by the determination of the human spirit.

Most inspiring as well as one of the more enlightening places I have ever visited and or has ever experienced... This place spoke to me as we toured from room to room as the tour guides expressed so much information regarding the historical events that took place during the exhibits... A must see, very inspiring indeed.

Another Memphis must see! a great for historical discovery. Great tour guide and very informative visit. I must have learned more visiting this place then in school. It's a shame we are not thought those things in school in Africa, at least in Senegal where I live.

Extremely informative! Guide was very knowledgeable. It's a shame the way black folk were treated during slavery time. This tour was a very humbling experience and ALL people of every color should make time for a Slave Haven visit.

Unfortunately we couldn't visit bc they don't accept credit cards. The Greeter told us we could leave and go get cash from an ATM. When asked if the credit card machine would be operational later in the day, she said 'Oh no, it's been broken for quite a while'. So apparently they have no plans to fix it, no attempt to run cc's on a website, no plans to get a square or anything. Way to turn away 2 customers on a dead Tuesday morning. I'm not jumping through hoops to pay $12 at this tiny place.

This place gave me an amazing fresh perspective on the sad travesty that slavery was. Obviously you learn about the brave people that took part in the underground railroad. The tour is a revolving tour so you can always jump right in. It's definitely worth a stop.

Definitely an educational tour to follow up on if you are in Memphis visiting the MLK Museum . Only 7 mins north from the Lorraine Motel site two blocks west on Second Ave. Spend an hour or so of your time and let 4 tour guides educate you and enjoy the tour.

Wow! I learned so much from our guide. This is a hidden gem and a must see if you want to know our American history for real. Black history (some of our forgotten truths) reminds me of our significance to the American establishment. People of color are entertwined into every aspect of building this country. Knowing history reminds us of this fact. I won't share any spoliers, just go.

If you want to know the history of the underground railroad and how it was used to free slaves, you need to visit this museum. I was enlightened, educated and inspired by what I learned. The tour guides are amazing and excellent story tellers who captivate your attention with their knowledge and make the experience valuable.

Elaine, the docent, was so kind. She covered so much history, but also included and engaged the elementary age children on the tour. She was very gracious about helping me get to the estate and to get back to the correct place to rejoin my friends - who, by the way, chose to miss the most interesting part of Memphis history. Elaine's son was the guide at the W.C. Handy home and was also very accommodating. As a visitor from Handy's hometown of Florence, AL, I had many questions and wanted to see every artifact. I highly recommend both sites.

From the outside the home where this Museum doesn't look like much especially since you enter from the rear. Once inside a sober experience will come upon you. My eyes were opened to the inhumanity experienced by those brought here from Africa as slaves.

I've visited Memphis several times but didn't know about this little gem! This tour was very informative. I've visited several other plantations in different cities, this one is definately one of my favorites.

You will certainly learn things you never knew! One of the tour guides seems very bent on making out white people to be evil. I get it but wasn't the owner of the house a German abolutionist, white? Didn't he save countless lives? Tone it down please, we all know slavery is hideous and an abomination to mankind, and yes racisim exsists still but being mad about it only freaks people out and then they stop listening.

The Madame that's running the slave plantation needs basic customer service. She was very disappointing , disrespectful and unprofessional. I would have love to speak to her manager. She failed miserably.
