Went to the Factory for a 1:00 tour ( I read the brochure that recommended reservations! ) I got there early enough for a free 10:15 tour also. Well worth it!! Very informative and the Steel toe tour was well worth the money asked! Don't know why others gave poor reviews? Everyone was very friendly and easy to deal with! Just follow the rules and you get quite a enjoyable time!!

The tour is amazing. Tour guides are great. Excellent gift shop. Good restrooms. Highly Recommended if you like motorcycles or just seeing a good old fashioned American factory assembly line with robots, lasers cutting metal, and presses at work. Really cool!

what a great experience. the attention to quality was number 1 throught the entire plant. if you want to see what makes a Harley a Harley, you must take the tour.
Great people, great care taken to insure that the bikes they build are No I in quality and craftmanship.
i was very impressed. You can't go wrong on this.

We did the free factory tour and got a really good overview how the bikes are produced. Compared to my visit back in 2005 it is very modern right now.
If you like bikes and are somewhere near the tour is a must!

Scheduled a steel toe tour for my husband's birthday, and was notified 2 days ahead of time that the tour is no longer being offered, after planning months in advance and taking time off work to attend on a weekday. Poor planning on the part of HD? I'm not sure, but they are definitely disappointing fans.

I've been to this assembly plant and museum twice ...

I've been to this assembly plant and museum twice in my past, as I loved it both times. The last time I was there, our tour guide saw the t-shirt I was wearing and instantly I became his best friend (as I won't tell you what my shirt said), as he was a World War 2 Veteran. But during the tour, he pointed out one of the new models that nobody on the outside of the plant had yet seen, and whispered to me, 'You should walk over there and take a picture of the new model, as they are supposed to have it covered up'. So I did, and just as I finished taking the picture, a couple of guys grabbed a blanket and threw it over the new bike and covered it, as they were staring at me with frowns on their faces! But the museum is a site to see, as it shows just about every model that has been produced as well as some other unique pieces of art work. There was a woman there who could lace a wheel and balance it within a few minutes, something that would put most guys to shame even if they had all day to do it. If I should ever head back up that way again, I'd stop by for a 3rd visit, as I like doing things like this.

I've visited and toured all three HD manufacturing facilities (the York factory twice) and I've thoroughly enjoyed each one. The guides and other personnel are always informative and friendly.
In reading the other reviews posted here, I'm in disbelief about the issues people complain about here. All of the tour times, dates, rules and restrictions are clearly posted on the HD website!
I'm very appreciative of HD for making these free tours available to the public and am planning another visit soon!

We went twice, The first time we could only take the short free tour because they were in the process of model change. The next year we went back earlier in the year and took the steel toe tour. It was great. Luckily we didn't take our bike or my husband would of traded it in on the spot. Had a great time. Go for the free tour or the paid both were great.

took the "steel toe" tour...awesome experience! our guide, Fred, was very entertaining and informative. If you are a motorcycle enthusiast, you will love this tour. If you have any interest in fabrication and manufacturing processes, you will love this tour. for me, it was well worth the $38 to see how these beautiful machines are assembled and if I'm ever in York PA again, I will definitely do the tour...lots to see.

The steel toe tour will amaze you if you're a motorcycle fan or not.

This was a very interesting place to visit. Not only do you get to see a place that employees thousands of people, but you also get to witness modern manaufacting in progress.

This place is gigantic and they use every inch of it to build their motorcycles. We watched in awe as Robotic lifts transported each vehicle all throughout the assembly line.

Yoou'll get to witness the motorcycle start from an empty frame, weave through dozens of stations as workers attach thousands of pieces, and to the finished product being tested.

It's a very cool experience that you should try to see.

Flawless, you are actually guided through the factory during the free tour. (not like sometimes with other companies). If you are lucky you don't have to wait long for it to start. What we weren't very lucky with was our guide, he didn't convey any emotion for HD ... was just a job.
However, this hardly detracted from the fun and can unreservedly recommend the visit.

The attached shop wasn't bad either, prices for shirts etc. cheaper than e.g. at dealers.

Worth the price. The free plant tour is a great opportunity to see an American Manufacturing plant in operation and understand first hand the exceptionalism of the American worker. Beautiful plant, well maintained and friendly folks; the tour is professionally guided with audio sets for ease of hearing. You can take the paid tour with greater detail but avoid the month of July and part of August. Parts of the plant are removed from the tour due to protecting next model year role out.

Again well worth stopping for the experience especially if you love HD motorcycles or American manufacturing.

The tour is really unique. They ride the motorcycles throughout the building. You see their quality reports on the tour. They won't let you take a motorcycle that was purchased off the lot without a helmet. It would be great to see more helmet laws everywhere if a driver cannot see them in their blind spot.

Beautiful and free experience, 1 hour trip inside the factory of the American myth on two wheels, HD. The route offers a short introductory video, finished which a guide explains inside the factory all the steps of the assembly up to the final tests. No photos and / or videos inside. Obligatory stop for lovers and not.

Nonmilitary Friendly Plant Tour: For a company that prides itself on being Pro Military... I did not see it at all on this $40 Steel Toe Tour. ZERO appreciation on the ticket price, tour equipment was not working 15-25% of the time, & Larry (16yr HD vet) the ADD Tour Guide mumble about 20% time and constantly referenced something (SQUIRREL!!!) but was distracted by something else in a different location... This was second time I visited the HD plant here but I would just stick to the FREE tour since in the end... it is just a Product Tour.

Terrible place. Went in for information about ther tour and the lady at the front desk was very rude. She threw a badge at me and called me names. I almost cried. I just wanted to see my favorite bike place. She's older with blond or white hair. Said to have been there for years. I went on 3-18-2020 at 9:00 am. I don't think this is my favorite bike place anymore.

Booked the steel toe tour for what I thought would be a nice thing in our trip for my husband. I was wrong .. ..I enjoyed it as much if not more than he did. We toured at 12noon 9/13/16 with Don. He was excellent....very knowledgeable about the bikes being built. But he got us to areas as they were working and not on break. He was terrific at answering questions. Ok to those of you reading this post Rob who runs the tour center does an excellent job but read the website info first. I can't tell you how ill prepared some folks were and to watch them get a bit riled was almost amusing. Don't be THOSE people..... read the directions first ....then come tour.....it will make your tour actually happen and keep you safe. He and his staff are not rude or impatient; there are rules and they want you safe.

We took the steel toe tour with Barry from England. Just my wife and I with one other couple. The small group allowed lots of questions. Barry is retired but was an electronic engineer during his career so he offered great depth of knowledge on many of the processes. From the robotic welding to the details of the painting rooms. I have toured many manufacturing plants this was one of the best tours I've done. As a side tour we also toured Gettysburg battlefield, it's about 40 miles from the plant. We know are planning our trip to Milwakee to tour the engine assembly plant and museum.

Call before you go !!!!. We were travelling from Canada ( 8hrs away) and wanted to do the factory steel toe tour. When I called they said that tour was unavailable we could do the classic tour but the factory was not operating that day. We decided to go ahead anyway. My husband was very disappointed . He really wanted to see everything up and running. We did enjoy the classic tour . It was interesting to see how a HD motorcycle is fabricated. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable though and we were given a $5 coupon to use at the gift shop because the st tour was unavailable.

We were told we could not take the factory tour because we didn't have the proper shoes. We were never told that there was a free tour that did not require special shoes. None of the staff there was informative or even pleasant. The gift shop is half of what it was 10 years ago. If they want people to take the steel toe tour they should provide shoes rather than telling us that we can purchase their flimsy tennis shoes for $50. Hacienda Harley in Scottsdale Arizona is 10 times better than this facility.

Any modern manufacturing plant is a really interesting tour. If you are into motorcycles, this one is extra interesting. Very well produced tour through the plant. I am not a Harley rider, so I wasn't as enthralled as those who have drank the kool-aid. It was almost more fun watching the glassy eyed riders who acted as if they were at mecca. No offense to you but it is just another brand of motorcycle, not the 2nd coming. I do realize that that sense of pride is what Harley is really selling and I admire their success at the marketing. I did really enjoy the ride here and did enjoy the tour and seeing the plethora of nice bikes in the parking lot. There is bike parking right by the entrance, which a lot of people miss. I parked in the prime spot, about 10 feet from the door to the tours. I would recommend the tour, just keep it in perspective.

The owners are self centered and do not care about their employees whatsoever. Do not spend your money here... they aren't personal with the customers and just want your money. The owners wife isn't as nice as she acts she will hound you and follow you around and literally make it her goal to sell you things you weren't even intending on needing, yes I know it's her job but she gets so pushy its off putting. The only people that genuinely care about their customers are the salesmen. But lastly and mostly the owner is the rudest man I have ever encountered in my life and I never even seen him crack a smile or greet his customers.

I have done the Free Tour twice. 2016 and 2017. 1st time I had a chat with a Quality Control Supervisor. Concerning some Safety issues with my 15 Street 750(Not made at this plant), His response was "Oops" then handed me a card to call Customer Service. I ended up fixing the Safety issues myself. Biggest was No Brake Fluid in the rear brake Master cylinder. And no external leaks. My First HD, And has been a Nightmare since new. Constantly in the shop.
As far as the Tour, Nice to see how the bigger bikes are assembled. 2nd time they let me sit on a 18 Low Rider. But didn't not have the 18 Custom 1200. If I had more time, And didn't ride my XG750 100 miles to get there, I would've tried the Low Rider.

Very friendly tour guides answer questions and give a detailed explanation of the process. On site store with lots of location specific souvenirs. Definitely worth the trip

Not a bad free tour, age limit inside, no photos inside tour area. Yes there is a $35 (2016) behind the scenes tour that PROVIDES free steel toe shoes that fits over what you are wearing. You get to keep the orange vest and Steel Toe Tour badge. If you are a Harley nut, I bet it's great. $35 each.. a bits expensive. The free tour is straight, no water or bathroom breaks. Wife decided not to go even though the offer wheelchairs. You do walk by a bathroom on the trip. You are required to wear an earpiece as it is a very noisy factory. You can ask questions but, again it's noisy and better get close to the tour person to ask. The headsets on ear only , so you can't talk to guide via headset. LONG walk, an hour or more, no sitting. Would be interesting to see if they are: Union, pay wages per job, what happens to pay when they shut down for retooling. Assembly line is interesting with robots all over and how they install an engine in one minute, then moves to install this, then that. They do say employees move every few days to get rid of boredom ! It take you from sheet metal, to first test run, to on the skid for shipping. Interesting, Japan is biggest buyers of H-D ! ! I guess you can only buy H-D stuff with "tour" on it at this store. Every H-D store had most of the gift shop stuff.
CALL and confirm they are open. They do close for weeks for retooling, model change. The first video you see is pretty crappy (knew that stuff), the free "history" area is OK. There are two bikes you can climb and get a photo. Get there early (10 am) and be prepared to wait. Steel Toe tour is best to "pre-order". Lots of H-D bikes in the lot by guests. Lots of other stuff to do in York, PA. Hotels range from $90 - $240 a night. Our $94 per night had indoor pool and jacuzzi, free breakfast, king bed in top name hotel. Pricing also depends on seasonal rates.
