Wonderful place to meet up with friends and make new ones.
The food is EXCELLENT. This was my second visit so I tried the Poboy. WONDERFUL as was the hamburger last time. Took home the steak and cheese which was totally enjoyed. Looking forward to going again. Owner is warm and friendly. I REALLY LIKE this place.
Small cafe in the burgeoning Frederick Douglass corridor. The staff is very attentive and the food is good. The prices are a little steep for what you get and the selection is pretty limited.
Great neighborhood spot! We plan to come here often. Staff is very nice and friendly. Food is great! Last time I had a burger (Pat la Frieda beef, yum) and my husband had the croque madam which was also good. My only critique is the mixed greens that come with a lot of the dishes are WAY oversalted, almost inedible. Haven't tried cocktails yet there but they look delicious!
This spot never fails to deliver. They serve awesome dishes for reasonable pricing, there no long wait even when the spot is busy.
HFB is the best. During this crisis, Harlem Food Bar is offering their full menu (including -gasp!- adult beverages) for take-out. Harlem, let s help them stay in business.
I need this place for where I live!! This place is so crunk and awesome!! I absolutely love this place, the energy, the vibe, the food!! But, it's the DJ!! DJKandonyc!! This dude is freaking amazing!! I can't wait to have a party, I swear I'm paying him to DJ it!!
The best Fries in Harlem!!! It is the little things and the attention to detail that sets a meal or experience apart from the rest.... this place does it!! I love this place and have not had a bad meal here since it opened!!
Eggs benedict smoked salmon very good!! Very small good wine list. Good service, clean place.
Came for brunch and ate until lunch. Drinks are good and the food is even better. Definitely a new regular spot when I don t want to leave the hood. Restaurant Row in Harlem is where it s at and HFB is just that good.
Great service, comfort food as it supposed to be with beautiful serving.
The food is great, the Turkey Burger is a must try. The staff are very welcoming and kind.
Tiny place, BIG PERSONALITY!! Excellent and creative food in Harlem. Highly recommend.
The staff is incredibly nice, and while maybe a little pricey you get what you pay for. The food is amazing! They also have late hours, so it's a great place to get a midnight meal
The food is really good here and they have an amazing menu. And you got to try out their burgers. It's that good!
The fries are special and I do not care for fries. Ever. They are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Not oily. Just Right.
I rarely write reviews and I wish I had nothing but great things to say, but unfortunately that is not the case. I have had two significantly disappointing experiences here that must be made known to hopefully spare someone else from the same fate. On two separate occasions I have been overcharged when using my debit card to pay the bill. It wasn't until a few days later that I noticed and decided not to make a fuss over a few extra dollars. Everyone makes mistakes, right? Wrong. Last night my boyfriend experienced the same thing, but at a more blatant and obvious degree because he left a gratuity in cash, but was charged and extra five dollars on his card. This shady behavior is a red flag and it seems to me that this is an ongoing scam taking a couple dollars here and there from patrons preying on their vulnerability and banking on their ignorance. This is unacceptable. It's bad business and totally contradicts the neighborly atmosphere that has been built up in South Harlem over the last few years. Don't waste your time or money at Harlem Food Bar. There are many more restaurants on restaurant row with far superior food and honest service.
Cozy place with outdoor seating although it was too cold when we went. Service is friendly and they had some good brunch selections.
Great food, atmosphere and service. Owners are very involved and hospitable. Best burgers and tacos in the neighborhood. Their tacos, when available as specials, are amazing and can go head to head with the best Mexican restaurants in the city, even with the likes of Toloache. Even kid friendly for lunch, particularly during the week.
Love the happy hour here great half off crispy wings and fried calamari, two for one drinks! Definitely have to go for the frozen margaritas
Stellar food expertly, freshly prepared from a wonderful, creative-clasdics menu. Very good service and a friendly, chill, neighborhoody environment. You just can't go wrong there.
Nice neighborhood bar, good place for early evening dinners in the summer
Great atmosphere and music, great food, veggie options, nice waiter who accommodated our requests to make a few changes in the dishes.
We went to eat and we were surprised in a big way.
Burgers with a delicious flavor. And the potatoes, the best we had ever tasted, super crispy and delicious.
A place we would return to without a doubt.
Wonderful
Great drinks, nice service, warm atmosphere, and exquisite food!
Great drinks! We went on a random Sunday, its gets packed during happy hour
Great food especially the steak salad, onion rings and frozen double strawberry margaritas! Julianna was a great hostess. I will be back!
A friend brought me here about a month ago. Great food, great owner.
The waiter, the owner, the decor... everything. Wonderful!
Good drinks good chicken wings good sallets and good soups Nice staff
Great drinks and decent food. The staff is wonderful!
Excellent food, server wasn't the best but c'est la vie
The frozen margaritas hit the spot in a hot day and the potato latkes were awesome to the tongue. The decor was cozy, modern and clean. Service was prompt and very friendly.
Food is always fresh and appetizing ,staff wonderful ,drinks turned up, the place to be
Love the frozen spicy watermelon margaritas, cool happy hour as far as price.
Love the drinks fruit passion and the chicken wings with fries
My friend and I wanted a lunch place where we could eat outside and have healthful food , so decided upon HFB, as they had good salad options.
Since I don't eat meat, I ordered the Chicken Paillard Salad WITHOUT the chicken, asking for salmon instead, since they offered that option for the Caesar salad. However, they wouldn't "allow" me to have that salad with salmon, ONLY the Caesar (which was not the salad I desired) stating the "flavor range of the ingredients" wouldn't "go" with the fish..(HUH?!?!?! The salad was comprised of a variety of greens, so what doesn't go with fish???)
...I then decided I would order the Chicken Paillard Salad without the chicken, but I was informed it would be the SAME price with or without the chicken. Alternatively, I was told I could order a side salad with some salmon, but would be charged a la carte, for each, making it more expensive than any of the salads! Just to be fair, the menu states "no substitutions" but if they offer salmon for a Caesar, it STILL doesn't make sense-to me or my dining partner- why they couldn't put it on another salad????
Talk about an easy and pleasurable dining experience-NOT!
I decided on the veggie (black bean) burger which was mediocre at best. The bland burger barely held together on crumbly bread, so it mostly fell apart. The best part about the dish was the side salad, which was fresh and lightly, but flavorfully dressed.
The officious attitude over their precious created menu which prevented them from giving this customer what she wanted earns them a very low score.
If you want wings, any kind of meat and drinks, this is the place for you.
The food was just adequate. The service was horrible. It was a slow period with less than half of the tables occupied. I would hate to see the service at peak time. Our waiter said he was new -- maybe he will get better. I'd heard about this place from friends and thought they were positive comments, but when I checked back with my friends they stressed ...at the bar.". I guess I should have eaten elsewhere -- or just had drinks AT THE BAR!
The Best Hot wings I ve had in a long time super fresh ,super clean place. Turkey burger with French fry's. French fry s are my son favorite. Nice happy hour spot, staff super nice and friendly. Will definitely recommend this spot. Nice side walk cafe
Food was good, atmosphere lively but it is pretty small. Drinks were also fantastic. I'd say try to go on off hours to have the best experience.
Great 2-for-1 happy hour. Definite gay vibe and atmosphere between the staff and the customers. It makes for a fun, relaxed and chill dining/drinking experience. Rare in Harlem maybe.
Be aware that their happy hour is not shareable with your significant other.
Amazing chicken sandwich and veggie burger. Nice energy and trendy setting. Well worth the sit in. Staff are friendly and attentive. Great!
One of the worst spots I have been. Expensive prices and tiny portions. The lemonade for $4.50 was literally a sip - just a cup of ice really. Very disappointed.
My first time at this spot, it was a great experience, food was great, service was awesome, very chill and comfortable atmosphere.
Always good. Always welcoming. Wonderfully embracing of the neighborhood.
I usually have great experiences here. The crowd is trendy and the staff is friendly. They hire cute people too. That helps. This place is always consistent with food and fun.
Over priced , unorganized and now irrelevant . I've tried to dine here twice the first time my friend and i were told they don't open until 5pm so that never happened . The second time i apparently came in during a shift switch which i guess mean its acceptable for patrons and guests to stand and sit around unacknowledged while staff and manager all stand idly doing absolutely nothing besides laugh and congregate among themselves . I would not recommend this place its probably gonna fade away just as fast as this over night Harlem new wave came it . Do Harlem a favor .... go out of business and allow a REAL establishment to move you , You guys just aren't ready.
Food is a bit pricy in my opinion but it's tasty so it is worth it. Customer service is great and set up of the restaurant is so pretty!
Not kids friendly at all, if you plan to go there with more of 2 kids they would tell you that they do not have capacity for that and their kitchen is to small for server more of 5 people in one table. They were so hostile
Great local spot. Getting better and better all the time.
Family friendly. Burgers were juicy and it was nice and fresh. The salmon was delicious. The drinks are too expensive for the size. 10.00 sangria in a 5 oz glass with fruit. Good service.
The food was great, and the frozen margaritas were delicious and large for the happy hour 2 for 1 special. The staff were friendly too. Definitely coming back!
I m from Harlem and I ve been going to this restaurant for some time now. Never got a chance to write a review but now here I am and I want to recommend it to anyone living in NYC or anyone coming from other cities.
Decent bistro with a flair. The drinks are the draw tho. That and the cute wait-staff.
Ordered the Chili, HFB Burger (medium) which comes with fries and all I can say is that it was simply phenomenal! The meat was very tender and succulent. Being from Chicago my burger-standards are high and HFB ecxeeded them. Highly recommend HFB for the food and the friendly service not to mention Ernie the owner is one cool cat!
Always a fun crowd at this (LGBT+ welcoming) spot! Good food, friendly service. Cocktails run on the sweet side, but are well-made. A regular haunt for friends and I!
this place charged my extra on my bill....FOH never going again...shady place...never go....
Waiter was friendly and always available even though the place was packed. Only negative was that I ordered wings plain without the spicy sauce and they still messed it up. The Mac and cheese sticks are amazing!!
In recent years Harlem has become home to some of New York City s best restaurants. I recently had a chance to visit Harlem Food Bar on the upper west side. The graphic art painted walls and small stools are cute and trendy. The waitress and bartender staff were refreshing and very friendly.
I went to take advantage of the happy hour special and much to my surprise, the only drink special was buy one get one free. I was on my own and only wanted one drink (It was a work night). I wasn t really in the mood to drink at a high price, so I opted for a diet coke instead (other patrons raved about the drinks).
I ordered the buffalo wings and fries, which were delicious! Both were original recipes and I was impressed. HFB made a simple bar meal taste gourmet. Since I was the only person drinking a non-alcoholic beverage, I was granted numerous refills.
Although the seating was small and cute, I found it to be a little tight. The owners make up for this by having a coat rack and hooks for handbags and briefcases under the bar. There was also outlets to charge phones and devices. One of my biggest surprises was that there is no Wi-Fi offered at the restaurant. Wi-Fi has become a huge complimentary offering among many NYC restaurants.
As a warning to single New Yorkers, you may want to take someone with you to the tiny restaurant. As a single girl passing through solo, I noticed couples and groups dominate the crowd. Many of them frequent the restaurant. Overall I give Harlem Food Bar a 3 out of 4 stars. It has a few flaws, but HFB is the perfect spot for an after work drink or a casual date.
