My husband and I had a lovely 3 day stay at the HarbourView in Charleston in October 2020. The location of the hotel is very centralized with a great water view! The complimentary breakfast was delicious. It was fantastic to socialize with other guests (Masked and distanced of course) during the 5-6 pm wine and cheese happy hour. They did a fantastic job individually wrapping each cheese plate for safety. The rooms were luxurious and sparkly clean. We did have a little issue with our A/C but they were wonderful helping us relocate to another room in the hotel. It isn't whether or not something is perfect but how they resolve the issue. We would highly recommend this hotel for your next stay in Charleston, SC
Friendly helpful staff. Clean nice. room. A pleasure to stay.
This is one of my favorite hotels in Charleston. My wife and kids love it. It is in a wonderful location right next to the Park and it is easy to explore Charleston on foot from the Hotel. The rooms are beautiful, very clean and well kept. The hotel itself is very nice and the staff are great, very polite and helpful. This is definitely one of the better hotels in Charleston and I have stayed at most of the nicer ones.
Great hotel. Free breakfast delivered to the room is what really sets this place apart. Location is great and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.
A beautiful view a crazy location in the very active downtown. Very good plan
Quality hotel. Great location off Market street and on the harbor. Sevices is impeccable. Recommend.
Room is huge, good view and comfortable. Only complaint is the vending machine is out of water and it's hot out.
I love the room! Bathroom is fantastic and wine and cheese time was great
Great location, helpful staff and lots of amenities. Would highly recommend this top notch hotel!
Booked 3 rooms for a weekend stay for the location and historical significance. Would have been 5 stars but the staff in the AM was completely lost when it came to breakfast. Rude and just did not care about their guests. Management needs to fire front desk clerk and breakfast staff.
I made a mistake on the dates for our reservation, and the hotel was very kind in working with me to change the reservation -- very professional and accommodating and made sure I was happy. They went the extra mile although the mistake was mine. I'll update my review once we complete our stay in March...looking forward to it!
We stayed here here for couple days. Loved everything about it. Staff was amazing and helpful. Morning breakfast on the roof was amazing. Its near downtown. Walking distance to all places. Definitely will stay here again if we go back.
A beautiful place in an amazing location. Definitely a great spot to stay for a Charleston visit.
The pros are the view of the water, super great location, comfortable rooms and the wine and cheese hour. Everything else is just a little off, would say the breakfast could be improved, the pastries tasted stale and we were given only one piece of toast each. The tub is pretty small so a bit rough for a bath, but the shower was nice. The rooftop would be amazing with some heat lamps this time of year. There was also some noisy construction going on at 8am sharp every morning which wasn't ideal (although not the hotels fault).
Rooms are nice, but the others in my party did not like the beds. All of the staff were very hospitable and helpful. Between the breakfast delivered to your door, the wine and cheese hour, and the milk and cookies hour, there is something here for the entire family. Location is also great, with the hotel being steps away from Waterfront Park.
Great location, very nice room and an incredible shower!!
our stay could not have been better...the trip was to honor my wife's birthday and the staff honored her in a beautiful way...the rooms....breakfast...valet service...views...location...staff friendliness...you could not ask for more...the perfect choice in Charleston.
Good hotel in a great spot. Service was very good some years back. Can have breakfast sent up to your room, but took a little bit to get there. Really great price for location and service.
We celebrated two birthdays during our stay! The staff was friendly and COVID precautions were in full force which made us comfortable. The kiddos loved the milk and cookies prior to bed. The breakfast provided each morning was perfect!
Just some side notes from our stay
1. The bad was using a third party booking svc, the good was HarbourView made it right. (Huge pricing difference)
2. The bad we needed a crib at 2am, the awesome night staff had one at our room within 5 minutes
3. The bad was our AC unit was making an obnoxious knocking noise during our first night stay... no sleep was had. The good was they address it when brought to their attention within a few hours and utilized COVID precautions.
4. The last bad was our king beds were way too firm for our liking, the good was the view from our balcony minus the construction equipment.
We hate to see the plans for the new construction across the street will mostly obstruct the beautiful harbor views when completed. Last notable suggestion would be to offer some sort of vending for snacks and soft drinks especially for families that may get a case of the munchies! Thank You from us to your staff!
The Harbourview Inn in Charleston is a gem of a hotel. Small boutique feeling, with a perfect location on the Cooper River. Staff extremely professional providing impeccable service. We were upgraded to a room with water view. Rooms are not large, but you are basically out all day sightseeing anyway. Beds extremely comfortable. Nice large bathroom. Room very clean. Parking costs money. The breakfast is a real treat. You order the night before letting the kitchen know if you want the meal in your room or in a public space. We had gorgeous weather in February!!! So one morning went up to the 6th floor terrace and enjoyed our breakfast there, with the skyline of Charleston behind us. Would highly recommend this hotel for ambience, value and location.
We were very impressed with this place! Will definitely stay again when we re in town
Great location! Complementary bike rentals made it easy to see the city the room was spacious and the air conditioner was top notch.
highly recommend staying here.
My husband and I recently had the pleasure to stay at the Harbor View Inn.
We absolutely loved the accommodations and the staff was amazing! It was located near outstanding restaurants in walking distance and across the street from the water and a beautiful park to take walks. The market place and shopping was close also.
The Harbourview Inn is one of my favorite hotels in Charleston. I like everything about this hotel from the location next to Charleston Waterfront Park to the wide open space with natural light throughout the hotel, to the views from the room, and the overall relaxing atmosphere of the hotel. I really the rooftop balcony terrace lounge area as it has plenty of space to lay back and take in one of the best views in Charleston of the park, river, bridge, and the rest of Charleston. The staff here is amazing and does everything they can to make sure that everyone has the best stay they can. I feel so much better after every visit here.
Great service great views good location right downtown
Loved it! Clean and elegant... great location and beautiful view. Staff was friendly. The baby bed we received was visibly dirty and didn't come with sheets but everything else was amazing. Received breakfast... there were cookies and milk/cocktail hours. We will definitely return!
It's a small historic hotel in downtown Charleston providing excellent service & hospitality. The rooms are large and well appointed and very comfortable. I'd definitely stay here again
The best location...thoughtful amenities....gracious staff.
Superb from check-in to check-out! Truly caring staff on all levels from front desk to housekeeping. Welcome Champagne, morning breakfast, afternoon snacks and drinks, evening wine and more goodies, all top of the line! SPECIAL thanks to Anice and Glori at front desk and Rana our housekeeper in room #103.
The rooms were very nice, and we really enjoyed the rooftop terrace. Excellent location - close to restaurants and sightseeing. The included breakfast wasn't the greatest, but it was decent.
Small boutique hotel in a great location. Rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff is very friendly.
Small but beautiful hotel on the water( building going on, but waterview for now)....close to a variety of eateries & shopping...staff was welcoming & extremely helpful!! Will definitely recommend & return if our travels bring us this way again!!
Great location for walking around downtown Charleston. The room was great and the staff was incredibly nice and helpful!
Hotel is in good location downtown, but there really isn't a clear view of the harbor even when on the roof. Our shower was nasty and at some point the ceiling had a water leak they attempted to repair, but failed at. The hotel does have a nice cozy feel. Rooms just need to kept up for the price asked. Maybe I got the room because of race. I don't know but was very disappointed. Stay here if just want to be downtown and not very interested in the room, as long as you can lay your down. This is it.
Wonderful boutique hotel in the heart of historic district. Enjoyed the evening wine & cheese reception. Withing walking distance of many shops & restaurants. Will definitely go back!
Rooms were lovely! Free breakfast delivered to your room each morning. Cookies and milk for the kids at night!
Beautiful hotel with a modern rustic feel to it. Plus you get cookies and milk when you check in.
Beautiful hotel with perfect service and amenities. The staff were incredibly efficient and friendly. Most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. The evening wine and cheese is a real old world classy touch. The rooftop terrace is a relaxing place with the best view in Charleston. Can't wait to return.
Nice hotel right in the heart of Charleston. Breakfast was amazing delivered right in your room.
Couldn't ask for a better location. Breakfast on the rooftop is amazing!
Wonderful restaurant! Very attentive staff and delicious food.
I was going to rent a car but this hotel had it all. I got a room with a view! (See photos) Free mini breakfast served in my room! Free turn down service at night.
Oh ya, free happy hour with wine and cheese! Walking distance to park, restaurants, rainbow row, the French quarters the market and the free city tram stop right outside the door of the hotel.
Very good place for travellers who need some rest after long journey. Very best location close to the sea-front. Yummy yummy and bottom less M&M's :)
Fantastic Service....
EVERYONE & EVERYTHING was first- rate....
We will be going there again...
The hotel is in a great location next to a pier and an oceanfront park with tons of great bars and restaurants close by. The free bike rentals here are also a must, you can ride from the nearby park around the peninsula and the views are stunning. To top it all off, they have complementary wine and cheese nightly before dinner time and complementary milk and cookies before bed. We took full advantage of this every night and it was wonderful. The only downside was that the only real option for parking was a 30 dollar valet, but they did a wonderful job. I wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else if I return to Charleston in the future.
A friendly, beautiful, clean hotel in the perfect location
Though I am a Local resident of Charleston. Staff Member Mike Wilson found my set of keys and went to great lengths to find me and get them returned to me. To have such a loyal staff and to care about something that surely is not in their job description is a great asset. The Staff at the front desk was very friendly and were able to help me very quickly when I arrived and the lobby was clean and cheerful.
Thank You.

This hotel has the perfect location. The rooms are very clean well decorated and the view excellent. We looked over the harbour. Don the valet/concierge was fantastic. Breakfast each morning was wonderful, warm and served to our room. Do not hesitate because of construction at property closest to the water. Noise is not a big deal and very infrequent. Will definitely stay here again if I come back to Charleston. EXCELLENT!!
I loved the hotel! Very clean. Staff was friendly, and very helpful. Bed was very comfortable.
Location was perfect. We were within walking distance to everything!
Favorite thing was the complimentary wine And cheese at 5-6pm every evening.
The staff here were absolutely amazing! Very very VERY accommodating! Beautiful view and wonderful rooms, loved my time here.
A True '5 Star' Experience!!!! Located Directly In Front Of Historical Ocean Front!! Top of Line Valet Service!! Staff Very Accomodating!! Complimentary Breakfast Is Absolutely Award Winninng!!!! Wine & Cheese Each of Stay!! Warm Fresh Baked Cookies Each Night!!! This hotel and service was the Best Part of Our Charleston Visit!!!!!!
A rare five star from me... They earned every star. Excellent staff, fantastic location, and lovely perks
Excellent service, comfortable beds. Definitely would stay again.
Holy guacamole! So worth the money! Free wine and charcuterie during happy hour (5-6pm) and then free milk and cookies from 9-10pm? Yes, please! So courteous and responsive. Will definitely go back, even with the new hotel going up next to the pier (construction shown in the picture).
What a memorable night and following morning spent at the Harbourview Inn. We were the very first guests to check in post Corona shutdown. The staff welcomed us like we were royalty. Douglas, the front desk staff, made recommendations and reservations for an afternoon carriage ride. Even though we arrived back at the hotel after the wine and cheese hour, he was happy to serve us a couple of glasses of red which we enjoyed on the rooftop terrace. Our room was fabulous. The views were beautiful. We loved our stay!!
Wonderful location, amazing touches like flavored water, candy, cheese plates etc. Staff is wonderful. Our second time staying and we will be back again.
We had an amazing stay at the HarbourView Inn for our 12th anniversary. The room was excellent and staff was very polite / helpful. The wine & Cheese hour was a fun way to meet others and learn about the city. I would highly recommend this place and stay again in the future.
Beautiful place with amazing staff right in the heart of Charleston
The absolute best boutique hotel in Charleston. Rooms, food, service and staff - can't say enough good things about this very special place.
Family of four with smaller children: The employees of this hotel makeup for any shortcomings.
1. Professional
2. Personable
3. Responsive
4. Timely
3rd time in 6 years at the HarbourView and still impressed. Wife and I love the southern charm and gracious staff. From the moment we got here we were welcomed with a bottle of sparkling wine. We have historically enjoyed all of the amenities such as the wine and cheese each night and are appreciative how they have adjusted to offering these services during the pandemic. We appreciated all the safety measures in place. we were told about the construction and opted not to upgrade our room. Our last night however we did decide to switch to a harbor room and were graciously not charged a upcharge. It honestly wasn't too bad with the construction. We enjoyed a bit watching the action. The beds remain exceptionally comfortable. The shower is amazing. The towels super soft. The staff are super friendly and work hard to accommodate any need we brought to their attention. We didn't mind at all not having our room cleaned daily. If I called and needed supplies they gave them. I appreciate that safety measure during this pandemic. This was our first time venturing out in one year and we are glad we picked the HarbourView Inn. Would 100% recommend them to anyone.
We had a wonderful time here celebrating our anniversary! Awesome, unique hotel with lots of nice little touches (candy all day in the lobby) - and in walking distance to everything.
Sister hotel to French Quarter Inn. We stayed at both to experience two areas of Charleston during the week before the 4th of July. We were please with Harbourview Inn although not as much as with the French Quarter Inn. The location was nice and close to park and walking to great restaurants. Staff were so so nice. The room would get hot at night as the ac would not stay on rather shut off on on. There was only the auto switch and not an on choice for the fan. Our shower handle was broke and could not adjust. The shower curtain was like 2 feet shorter than the tub length which was weird and allowed water to splash outside of shower area. Best part was closeness to park area.
The room looks newer on website but in reality it isn't that updated. Service was slow and no ramp for stroller or ADA to the ground level. A bit disappointed.
Ok place. Showers backed up. Beds had post and was right in middle of tv.
Very homey place the staff was GREAT! it had been a few years since I've been but they brought breakfast to us and every night they would bring us a breakfast menu and we got to chose what we wanted!! The rooftop was perfect fix you a glass of wine and just enjoy the coast winds and fresh air! Lots of walking take comfy shoes and enjoy Charleston downtown, LOTS of shops and a long flea market! Highly highly recommend this Inn!
Okay, this has been a couple weeks coming...all I'll say is there are are many reasons why I'm giving this only 3/5 stars (or 60%.) For staying in their best suite for six nights it was about $3,600 (and that was perfectly acceptable.) It was more about the simple touches that were lacking. I will not use this forum as a diatribe about the HarborView...I have many reviews on Google and find that most of my reviews are fair to almost every place I've been...I just gave a McDonald's a 4/5 because of simple expectations...this Hotel just fell quite short what I expected.
Wow, what a wonderful stay!!! My fiance (now husband) decided to elope in Charleston after having to postpone our wedding multiple times due to COVID-19. We planned everything in under 2 weeks, and needed a place to stay for our wedding weekend! It was just us two so we wanted it to be special. Harbor View Inn is in the best location! It overlooks the water and is tucked in the corner where you feel like you have some privacy. They are doing construction across the street right now, so just be aware of that. But even with construction, we could still see the water and all of Charleston's beauty from our room. They have a rooftop area with seats and charcoal fire pits and it was perfect for us to lounge in because it made it easy to socially distance and still enjoy the Charleston views. The service was fantastic! Everyone was so kind and helpful. They congratulated us on our wedding and accommodated wedding requests like champagne, roses, dessert, etc. We can't wait to come again and celebrate future anniversaries!
We chose the HarbourView Inn for its location near the water and easy walk ability. The doorman was pleasant and welcoming. Ascend the stairway to get to the front desk and a small sitting area where there is a lovely view of the fountain and the harbor.
There were two women checking arrivals. The couple checking in next to me were offered a welcome beverage. I was not. I was informed parking is an additional $32 per day. Ouch.
We were in a standard room which was clean and relatively quiet. Could hear the elevator operating but it wasn t troublesome. The beds were comfortable.
Fortunately, the construction across the street shuts down on the weekend. It had started back up the morning we departed and it was loud. It is unfortunate for the inn and something over which they have no control.
We were told there would be wine and snacks from 5-6 pm every evening. We went down at 5:15. I asked for a white wine. The same young woman who checked me in poured me a glass. I saw no snacks anywhere. So I asked her. She vaguely gestured to the buffet and said they were all out. Maybe come back in 15 minutes and there would be more. Wow. I didn t bother. Maybe more training for the staff?
One orders breakfast by choosing items on a door hanger and placing it on the outside of your door before 9 pm. Pick an entree and an approximate time you want it delivered. That all seemed to work. We ordered the ham and cheese croissant. Just okay. We skipped breakfast the next day. Found a fantastic little bakery on the next block.
The inn keeps a coffee and tea station on the second floor sitting area. This was nice and we were able to have a hot cup of tea whenever we wanted.
Whatever they say about themselves, I would not classify HarbourView Inn as a luxury hotel. Room fee, parking and tips totaled about $300 a day. Realize that you are paying for the location.
Beautiful building and rooms. Very comfy beds and linens along with plenty of amenities. Street noise can be distracting but stops fairly early.
Beautiful and elegant hotel in style reminiscent of the early 1900's with a fantastic view of the port.
Perfect location, within walking distance of the market, authentic downtown Charleston restaurants such as Poogan s porch and more. Fantastic. The HarborView inn has an amazing waterfront view of Charleston. The rooms are very spacious and elegant.
The only issue we had was that one of the girls at the front desk said that we had a rate locked in for 3 days, but when we went back to the hotel at about noon, we were locked out and said that we only booked 1 day. Luckily, the room was still vacant for the next 2 days, and even though the gentleman told us it would be more for a Friday nights stay, he gave us the regular weekly rate to make up for the mistake.
So many good things about this place... be ready to gain weight ;)
Wine & cheese from 5-6pm daily. 4 wine choices.
Iced tea & water, alone with m&ms are available all day
Breakfast gets delivered to your door at the time of your choosing in the morning, and is quite delicious in my opinion. My mother would beg to differ, but her tastebuds aren't as advanced as mine.
If you didn't have enough for breakfast or need more coffee, there's some readily available by the check in desk.
Rooftop terrace is very nice, however with the cement walls, you can't see if you're sitting down.
I wouldn't bring kids here just because they would get bored. However, there is a fountain right next door by the habor that kids are allowed to play in.
There's free valet parking! You just Call 10 or so minutes before and they'll grab the car
It's really close by to everything! We walked everywhere we went!
Stayed here for the third year in a row. Always an excellent experience.
Beautiful hotel with amazing staff and amenities. Breakfast to the room, valet, cocktail hours, and a great view of the harbor all contribute to the best hotel experience I've ever had.
My wife and I booked our stay @ Harbour View weeks in advance via the HotelsTonight App for this years 4th of July holiday week based on other great reviews & the convenient location of the hotel to the waterfront activities of Charleston. I have not been to Charleston in 12 years & my wife had never visited this magical southern city. I take my time off seriously by trying to plan & maximize my enjoyment by reading reviews from multiple sites to ensure no bad surprises dampen or ruin a vacation.
Unfortunately, a bad surprise is exactly what happened @ Harbour View to my wife and me hours after checking in. On the very first night of checking in after we had returned from an awesome dinner @ Husk I was lying on the bed and my wife noticed something on the bathroom vanity hopping around - she gasped and then yelled at me to look at what she had caught . A BIG FLEA (see photo). I then told her was probably an isolated incident of someone sneaking a dog into the room and returned to the bed only to watch 2 more fleas hop onto my leg!!!
We caught 2 of the fleas and showed them to the night manager who apologized and then moved us from room 312 to 305. After entering room 312 another minor unpleasant surprise - upon pulling back the duvet cover we noticed a large smear of human blood on the downside of the blanket = gross! Hoping all of this was an isolated occurrence of bad luck we went to bed.
The second day we returned from sightseeing and went to bed only to awake the next day to my leg covered in bites! (see photo) It was as that point I was furious and contacted Hotels Tonight who promptly called HarbourView and requested the manager release me from the rest of my booked stay so that I could book elsewhere. The Harbour View manager did in fact then call my room and apologize for the insect issues saying that he had their insect control company out after the first night to room 312 and they found nothing - it's my opinion that there are fleas in the hotel - however, I am going to let you out of your rental contract for the remainder of your say .
Is disappointing & unfortunate that past guests obviously snuck a dog into the hotel leading to this flea problem on Harbour View s 3rd floor - however their lack of action is why I wanted to write this review as it was obvious that their management team knows full well what is required to kill a flea infestation in a 100% carpeted hotel like Harbor View - a complete shutdown and flea and tick bombing of the hotel is going to be required and at least this weekend they were more interested in getting me out quietly than fixing the underlying problem which I know will not go away as fleas reproduce rapidly!
I will never stay at Harbour View again - we moved to the Dewberry and it was day and night in terms of the quality of service, hotel cleanliness and responsiveness to our needs given the almost identical nightly rate.
Loved our stay here. Staff was amazing and very friendly. Our room was upgraded for free and was very spacious with probably 14 foot ceilings. Room was clean and luxurious with a big bathroom. They offer free drinks daily, breakfast was included and can be brought to your room, there are milk and cookies every night and a cocktail hour from 5 to 6. Great location right near the pier and water. Walking distance to great restaurants like Magnolia's. Ended up giving us valet parking for free which is normally $27. Great experience and would definitely recommend.
Traveled here from Columbia to stay a few night here. Clean and good smelling room. Really enjoyed the view from the rooftop.
Cozy and convenient to all Charleston restaurants. Iced tea and coffee available all day. Wine and cheese before dinner then cookies and milk at bedtime.
The DASH stood right across the street.
