I do not advise going there on a day cruise . It s extremely expensive: $149 per person including your pub lunch which I m personally a bit sick of . All attractions come with a price tag and frankly why should you pay so much to do them on an island when you could invest your $149 in a scenic flight or a snorkelling trip.

Flew back home 4 days early after realising how pretentious and boring this place was. I ve read honest reviews from 10 years ago and I can confirm that nothing has changed - bad food, bad service, overly expensive for what you get! They surely take their visitors for granted. If you enjoy paying a fortune to just relax , then good for you. I wouldn t go back even if it was for free.

Due to our child s health we were unable to pre book activities for our stay at Hamilton island. We were disappointed that all tours were totally booked out when we arrived this week. We had to wait and see due to her health condition weather she could partake.

After trying on several attempts to get watersports we were told that only a 9am catamaran booking was available this morning 24 November 2020. When we arrived at 8.55 the sign said that the catamarans were actually available at 8am not 9am. Also plenty of catamarans were available more than 10 from 8am! This was quite contrary to the verbal advice at the hut yesterday. Then we were told that there was no wind and they would not be able to recover the boats. This is when I got frustrated and walked away. As an experience sailor I could see and video the palms moving in the breeze and my wind cup anemometer was registering between 7 9 kphr. More than enough for any catamaran to handle any directional sail even without experience. I checked the BOM weather site for the latitude and longitude and their numbers were slightly higher because of the weather station location. Regardless of BOM the wind speed measured at water edge was ample. It was clear that the staff simply weren t happy to accommodate guests and pull the boats out or do recoveries (Albeit in this situation unlikely). This unnecessary blocking from use of equipment was very disappointing and showed a complete misunderstanding of wind.

It is a shame that the personnel are not trained appropriately, tours and sports facilities are so poorly resourced at Hamilton Island. Because the food, accommodation and island is amazing.

A wonderful place to spend time with your family. We stayed there for four unforgettable nights.
The place is stunningly beautiful but it wasn t crazy crowded. You will find kangaroos and some not so common birds.
Highly recommended!

Great fun Island with plenty to do for all family. Shame for us weather had rain every day although we found things to do. Great atmosphere. Very clean. All staff everywhere were exceptional. I saw staff from other areas pick up rubbish on street, taking pride in the resort - top effort all around. Great restaurant in Co Ca Chu.

Not picking- why so many tables in public areas are wobbly?

Sailed into Hamilton to resupply our yacht. $20 for an hour to grab some supplies, top up with fresh water and offload our refuse. Absolute bargain! A guide meets you and guides you to your mooring. Friendly helpful staff. Liked it do much we planned an overnight stop there a few days later. Same grab service. Jumped on a shuttle and headed to a resort poll and the snorkel led at Catseye Beach. Great facilities for marina guests. Very good

Paradise island, door to the great barrier reef. Paradise place, perfect in every way, all 5 minutes from the airport on an island without cars. All the islands are within walking distance or you can use the free transport of the island.

This rating is purely for the food and hospitality available on the island. You need to book in advance, with most restaurants needing bookings 3-4 days prior to attending. This doesn't work with some visitors schedules as sometimes you have activities etc that dictate what you do at lunch and dinner.

Also, most restaurants only do dinner service.

The only restaurants open for lunch are... Actually there is only one - Manta Ray.

A cafe, fish n chips, Bakery and the tavern are also available, but on a resort island, it's simply not good enough.

You need to have enough restaurants and eateries that can cater for the amount of visitors staying on the island, no matter if it is peak or off season.

Eventually someone will open eateries that allow for someone to eat out for lunch and dinner, and not have to go to the new IGA supermarket and cook in the accommodation. Until this happens. I wouldn't recommend visiting at all.

We just love coming back to Hamilton Island. Our third time, and keep coming back. Our stay at the Reef View Hotel, has always been absolutely wonderful, each and every time. The view from our room was amazing. Spacious, clean and modern rooms. Breakfast was delicious. Staff were incredibly helpful, outstanding, and first class. Highly recommend to young families, as we had three children spanning from 4-14 years. Lots to do and see on the island, regardless of the weather. We will definitely be back.

Buggy drive is a must have experience. Sunset and Sunrise points were good too.

This place is magical. I have traveled the world a lot but this was just a completely different experience. You drive buggies around the island and no cars are there. It's very small but the wildlife is superb. There are amazing birds that'll come to you when you eat outside. There are many option for resturants which need reservations in advance in most cases. We stayed at Qualia which is one of the best hotels on the island. Took a helicopter to the great barrier reef and that was probably the best experience of my life ever! Would come back anyday here. The best memories of my life.

A wonderful getaway island for a holiday! Plenty to do and great places to eat. Love the buggy's you ride around the island on. Everyone is really friendly. Good range of gift and souvenir shops too. Don't miss trying the delicious pizza's and gelato from the' Pizzeria & Gelato Bar' opposite the Marina - the gelato is the best! Make sure you also enjoy your sunset dinner on the boat cruise - its excellent!

It's a resort island with expensive hotels and restaurants. Nevertheless, we had a nice stay here. We went to a couple of beaches and they were both nice. There area a few bushwalking trails from the resort which have amazing views. The resort pools are nice and so is the Hamilton Island marina.

Terrible nightlife, if you're single I wouldn't recommend but if you're married or have a partner different story. There's a nightclub on the island called captain's which is closed indefinitely without any warning and the only substitute is the marina tavern which is dead at the best of times and full of absolute dryness. Been here 8 times and it's gotten worse and worse each time until I've finally had enough of the shocking island atmosphere past 6pm. Pool atmosphere is good in the afternoon but that's where it all stops, once the sun goes down the party seems to head to the staff bar and guess what, visitors aren't allowed! The vibe and feel inside is what should be open to wide public but the island singles it off for staff only to the point where people have tried to sneak in and gotten caught. Great vibe during the day but night time is a let down, who wants to go to bed at 8:30pm when there is a whole town on an island to explore

In typical Australian tourism standards: all restaurants colluding to rip you off at same high prices. Captive, after all. It s not as if you can just hop on to mainland for a more competitive food scene. I hope we can resume travel to destinations where our Aussie shtmicropeso buys us a bit of value.
All are begging us to support local tourism, to have sympathy for our suffering tourism operators. For years, while kids growing up, I endured tourism in Au during school holidays. From Queensland to South Australia, experienced more Basil Fawltys than care to remember, paying small fortunes for accommodation that included breakfast-a plastic bag with 2 slices of white packet bread to toast yourself, one blister of jam and a lyptons teabag.
Sorry, no sympathy. Once kids grew up I discovered the pleasure of real tourism, anywhere else but here.
There are truly wonderful luxurious destinations here, but only those made rich by the lowering of wages and salaries of majority of Australians can afford the best Australia has to offer.
Sorry, I cannot empathise.

It's.... a bit disappointing. Came here to relax and snorkel and expected better. We definitely won't be coming back for these reasons.

1) There's loud construction at the reef view hotel during the week, as I'm typing there are jack hammering tiles off downstairs which they have been doing for most of the morning (I.e. for hours non-stop), we just came back to the room to relax and enjoy the view but alas, you'll need noise cancelling headphones. We're on the 14th floor and it's very very loud.
2) You can't go snorkelling during the day because of the water sports, they are fine with us going out on the first day but today they aggressively told us to swim elsewhere at catseye Beach which was very disappointing as that was the main reason we came here and outside of the buoyed area is either rippy or just seaweed with nothing to see, literally the only place worth snorkelling on the whole island (not exaggerating, other places are either inaccessible or there's nothing there) is where they told us we couldn't swim.
3) Everywhere on the main street is booked out up to a week in advance, so don't even think about going out for a nice sit down meal if you haven't booked ahead before your trip, we did manage to book into the restaurant at the hotel for two of our nights away. There are only two take away places due to covid (that's as of right now), pizza or fish and chips, which gets old after you've had them once. They both have nice food but it just feels a bit restrictive only having one or the other to choose from.

On the good side, catseye Beach is home to a family of turtles and lots of rays. Afternoon 4pm-5pm at low tide is best this time of year. Vis is terrible (2-3m at best) and coral is mostly dead but it is worth getting out there to see. For the price paid, it's not great here. Vast majority of the staff are friendly and helpful.

Lost stars because of crazy restrictions on where you can and can't snorkel (which was the main reason we picked hamilton island... to snorkel), construction noise and the unavailability of sit down meals.

Two stars for turtles, good views and mostly friendly staff. I can see how some might really like it here, but for us it was a bit disappointing. And yes, it's pretty crowded here but we've found all the other holidayers to be really polite and friendly. Getting around is super easy, free shuttles every 15mins and everything is less than a 2km walk (including the lookouts). Yes there is a cocktoo problem, but I haven't been to many places that don't have one and it really isn't too bad, they are worse back at home for us. Yes is it expensive to eat, but you have to expect a premium on an island. Wifi is patchy as is phone reception, however we expected that to be the case. Yes there are no golf carts available, they are booked out for weeks too.

Excellent place for an island getaway not too far from home. There s a heap of activities including a zoo, jet skiing, deep sea fishing and most importantly a gun club where you can just turn up and unload a mag from a Glock, Berreta or even an Uzi amongst many other fire arms. Best holiday ever

Heaven on Aussie earth

Heaven on Aussie earth
This was our first time here and I feel like I ve missed out on life having not coming here before. You can do as little or as much as you want to do....the choice is yours. From chilling by the beach, to sailing a catamaran. We rated at The Reef View. Overall the whole island is reasonably priced with plenty of food and drink options. No fun police stopping the good time so the island has a great holiday vibe. Could go on and on about the positives....WE WILL BE BACK, and if you haven t been, MAKE SURE YOU DO!

My Wife and I stayed here in June 2016 in the Whitsundays apartments and I could not tell you how much we enjoyed this small island. WE hired a buggy, we walked all over the island, did the Heart Reef by plane, the Off road adventure, did the bush trekking, enjoyed the Sunset and the sunrise everyday, our perfect honeymoon. Recommended for families too. Now I have a 3 year old daughter and I will go back with the whole family again to enjoy this beautiful island filled with happy memories.

My girlfriends and I travelling to Hamilton Island...

My girlfriends and I travelling to Hamilton Island for the weekend for a long overdue catch up in January 2021. I m a local and wanted to show of our beautiful region and I knew the island was going to be the perfect spot. We literally had the best time of our lives. We arrived and loved our room, it had the most spectacular view of the ocean. We dumped our bags and it was straight to the swim-up pool bar and lunch. We loved the light menu options at the Sails restaurant and the choices of wines. We booked onto the sunset sail and it was great value for money with a cheese platter and bottomless bubbles. I highly recommend doing this if you re on the island.
This provides another view of the island from the water and offers beautiful photo opportunities and shows how well maintained the island is. We had dinner at Romano the Italian and it was delicious. We felt well and truly spoilt the whole time we were there. One of the highlights is driving around the island and taking photos at all the lookout locations. The island is absolutely stunning in every way and you certainly appreciate mother nature. If you re looking for a quick escape to Paradise with family or friends, I highly recommend visiting Hamilton Island. I don t believe there is anywhere in Australia that offers such an incredible experience and has something for every traveler. I can t wait to come back and visit with my children soon.

The location sells itself, & the garden and maintenance team have done a great job post Cyclone Debbie. I think it's safe to say in Aust, you pay for the product & not so much for service these days. The place use to be on top of it's game, & has slipped in this area in recent years. Watersports staff don't leave the hut to help with anything, & if you want something it's booked out. They had 5 hobbie cats sit on the beach for 2hrs, even after we had asked to hire them, because they were booked (obviously making good money!) We went for New Year, & when we sent our teenages to reception to find out about what was happening (no mention of anything anywhere in sight), they were told they couldn't attend the 2nd session because it was for adults - that shouldn't stop them from watching the fireworks! Wouldn't it have been better to highlight where they could have the best vantage point to see the fireworks (that has nothing to do with age) - it's all in how you answer a customer's question.

Usually great, except when the island becomes an overbooked slum. Couldn t get our preferred room, couldn t get a buggy, pools over crowded, have to book most eateries, walk-ins packed at most times and then feeding kids after 8pm. The island caters better to ppl outside the Xmas peak period. We will be back, but when the island isn t over booked.

Lovely romantic and young family getaway. Theres lots to do, which you could probably do all the touristy things in a few days.
Locals are friendly laid back qlders.
Off season is mild 20s and a good getaway for those of us from down south. Summer is tropical and hot AF. Appart from that its not a party area so dont come here expecting cheesy clubs, leave that for the mainland. Food and restaurant pricing is average.. i am from melbourne so it was a surprise that most things were reasonably priced.

A must go place if you plan a few days trip at North Queensland. There are so many activities on the island. The free bus service is very handy, you can catch a bus to most attractions. I am especially fond of bus captain Carlos, who is a lovely, handsome lad and knows a lot about the island.

If you want to go to an island where you need to ride a golf cart while listening to Vivaldi s Four Seasons to get to the cafe to drink a $10 milkshake or $20 cocktail this is the place for you. Go play some mini golf for $40 for two adults and a child where the average course is 2.5m in length. Where you have to swim out 50-60m to start seeing any coral. This is the place. I enjoyed the accomodation but If you are more into nature and seeing wildlife everywhere, go to Heron Island. I don t mind birds popping on my head or swimming with sharks in the shallows.
