Best architect on the North Shore! Hackley and Assoc recently did a renovation project for us. They helped throughout the process and we came in on time and on budget. Through them we found a fabulous contractor and we loved the recommendations they gave us. We are so happy with the results and our friends can't believe it's the same house.
Chip is the consummate idea man and really knows what it takes to turn your vision into a reality. He takes the time to understand not only how you want the house to look, but also how you want to live in it. So the kitchen will be arranged for maximum efficiency and practicality, but also look beautiful. Even better than you imagined! Chip designed the renovations on both of our houses and we highly recommend him.
Chip helped us with a major renovation, turning a 1930's ranch into a 2-story Tudor -style home. He has an amazing aesthetic and great knowledge of period architecture and his level of talent is really hard to find. He's great to work with and we feel so lucky to have found him!
We hired Chip and his company (Hackley & Associates) for a renovation and expansion of our 100 year old house. We were particularly concerned about matching the house so that it did not look like an addition, but like it was part of the original house. We are very pleased with the outcome. In fact, our house was recently awarded the Village of Winnetka Landmark Preservation Award. Chip's ideas, drawings and attention to detail resulted in a finished product we are very happy with. Chip has an incredible eye and he's a great problem solver. We completely renovated a 1948 ranch and turned it into an authentic Cape Cod style home, complete with a wraparound porch, cupolas and cedar siding. In addition to having a wonderful design sense, he relishes the details...moldings, finishes, etc. We characterize our relationship as a great partnership. We have recommended him highly to friends and will undoubtedly use him again on another project.
Chip and his team are first class. Incredibly easy to work with, responsive and very conscious of their client's needs. Their work is among the finest you will find in the country - beautiful designs, tastefully executed, combining the best of traditional architectural principles with the requirements of modern families. I have done three major projects with Chip - a new home in Winnetka, a new home in Glencoe and a second story addition in Evanston.

We bought a David Adler house in need of a thoughtful historic renovation. Working with Chip Hackley and Ted Dunn was the easy part of the project. They offered great service and accessibility, and kept the historic nature of the house in mind through the entire process while providing practical changes to meet the needs of a family today. They have great resources for odd ball necessities in such a project and continually keep it moving forward.
In the end, the house is exceptional and I owe most of the credit to Hackley & Associates.
