This hospital brags about awards but it is a joke. My dad went to the ER for a back problem. They just wanted to get him out without running tests. Said it was stomach related.. completely wrong and a sloppy rush job. If you have an emergency and want to live its best to go to a different hospital.

They saved my life. My hemoglobin was at 5 and due to previous bleeding ulcers I experienced in the past they had to do a upper GI endoscopy however I have terrible acid reflux and it acted up at just the wrong time causing aspiriation pneumonia. I was rescued from a state of near death and treated very kindly by nearly every dr, nurse, and even cleaning crew members I met during my time inpatient at Hackensack.
The nurses and all the staff in both Link Unit and St John's Unit were kind, patient amazingly caring , also the respiratory staff were kind and clear at explaining things and I have no complaints about my time in-patient. Perhaps one complaint and its more an anxiety I experienced due to the angle of the bathroom shape was hard to navigate with shaky legs and dizziness and the sink faucet in order to get it hot enough to wash my hands properly splashed everywhere and I would have to be careful of cleaning it carefully sometimes I had to have my sister squish into the bathroom with me to help me get out of there safely but again its more of a nuissance from having a shallow sink with high raised faucets and that was more of an anxiety about falling as I have a tendency towards dizziness. Just a thought though that some donors make it easier on us weaker legged patients and donate to install slightly better sink/faucet fixtures. Remarkably kind people one or two people out of all the staff were a little unfriendly but everyone else well made up for it. I was treated so wonderfully I was recovering at a speedy rate for someone who had pneumonia and super low vitamins minerals and hemoglobin. Thank you to the hard working (and during holidays or after the flooding weather, overworked due to absent people) you made me less afraid of hospital and as this is the second time I almost died and went to Hackensack where nearly everyone took excellent care of me. I was able to sleep much more than two hour a nights and for me inpatient I usually have such insomnia due to panic attacks.I hope that donors will realize this hospital is very worthy of a larger budget and an upgrade on a few items in the rooms because I have been to many hospitals and I saw nothing close to as good of care as here.

Mom had a successful left knee surgery. Maylene, her Pacu nurse understood our families anxiety about mom s first surgery, from everything went smoothly. Thanks to Dr. Rossman for taking our case, his team was well coordinated from booking appointments to coordinating cares. Dorothy the nurse was thorough with mom s discharge instructions, listened well to mom s concerns. The PT Alyssa and OT were both excellent teaching the what not s and how to s. OT texted a co worker for the grabber and other instruments mom needed at home and she came within 5 minutes! Jocelyn the housekeeper was very cheerful and entertaining. She made sure we had everything. And she ran downstairs to catch us in the lobby, to return the other cp I had forgotten ! Crystal was a hero too, because she brought mom down since transports are delayed. We truly had a great experience! We thank you all the staff especially the charge nurse who gave us our room. Thank you so much!

Horrible experience in the ER today. Our cardiologist sent us over from his office to have blood work and a CAT scan done. We were there for over five hours and no one helped us. You would see someone and they would say we should be taking you soon. Well we walked out. And sad to say my husband worked at HUMC until his retirement six years ago.
My opinion is they do not have enough experienced staff that knows how to treat patients!!!!!! Extremely rude and bad experience.

Can t give patient who is 90 years old Tylenol it s too challenging while there is another patient in the ER.
whoever I ask pass me on to the next person and no one takes care of the situation. They are cold and don t even care about the patient just their procedures.

I have thought about applying for a job at this hospital. As a candidate, I am 100% about professionalism, excellent customer service, and outstanding patient care. As a new employee, I would have to be accepted in that manner (and be strongly supported by management as such), for this job to be a good fit. Best wishes to the ER Department and the Hackensack University Medical Center for a more successful future.

Great Doctors and emergency room experience over all in spite the fact they tried to keep me there w/o a shower for 2 days straight while my house is 10 minutes away. I left and they called the police on me.... BUT, calling their billing dept. is a nightmare! The reps hang up in my face. I am currently on my 3rd attempt on hold for 20 minutes now. How in the world you want to get paid if you are making it so hard to get a hold of you?

I tried to get mine and my wife's Immunization record, the process is so complicated and lengthy that it's funny. I am supposed to physically send a mail request with a form and supposedly they will mail report to me. Thier fax was not working and I can't drop off the request with the front desk also. I was astonished to see how much trouble I had to go through to get my own report.

I was take him to the ER on June 17 because of the fall. They left me in the hallway next to the janitors closet away from the nurses station. I finally had to limp over and wave a Nurse down. Hackensack has saved my life three times, and this is the first time that they actually let me down I continued my stay in the hallway and a psychiatrist came to see me they didn t even take me in for x-rays so for now today August 3 I m feeling much better through my own efforts. Very very Extremely disappointed
