This review is solely on the topic of my interview with Publisher/Vice President Betsy Benson;
On August 31st at 1 PM, I was scheduled for a Zoom call with Mrs. Benson. Due to some connection issues while explaining my background to her, we had to cancel the Zoom call (especially since Mrs. Benson was being very impatient) and conduct the interview via phone. Once on the phone, I continue to review my resume and while in the middle of doing so, I was rudely interrupted by Mrs. Benson pertaining to why my resume has gaps . My resume did not have any gaps whatsoever. I simply listed my most recent job experience, education, training, skills, etc., which was all formatted on to one page (as per what I learned from many business seminars and mentors). She continued to undermine my experience given the fact that I am only 23 with two years of management experience with only an associates degree (while actively obtaining my bachelors online). She continued to question my work ethic and state she does not think I will be a good fit MANY TIMES since I am working on another degree and that I would be a better fit for an UNPAID internship. Mrs. Benson knowingly interviewed me with the expectations of exploiting me for free labor. Not one time did we talk about the position I applied for. Rather giving me a position worth my value AND experience, she rather take advantage of young professionals during a pandemic to exploit our creative ideas. I ve never ever felt so defeated and silenced during an interview in my entire life. I would not work for Pittsburgh Magazine for the simple fact that they (VP Mrs. Benson) are only out to exploit employees and not provide an hourly rate or salary. Instead of taking the opportunity to welcome young professionals on to your team to curate new ways to market during a pandemic, you rather exploit us for our ideas while the older generation reap the benefits while we get paid NOTHING. DO NOT WORK FOR PITTSBURGH MAGAZINE.
