When I had to surrender my cat Mojo due to poor health and expensive veterinary bills, the staff at the Guelph Humane Society handled my situation with kid gloves. They were nonjudgmental, kind and compassionate - attributes that were needed during a difficult time. When it's time to find another cat, I'll look first to the Guelph Humane Society.

Amazing people who work here. The way they care for these animals and spend countless hours looking after them is simply amazing. I love animals myself and when I see this it makes me so happy.

Thanks

The staff is so friendly and professional. They really care about all the animals they take care of. This is an example of a not for profit that goes the extra extra mile with your donations! Thanks GHS for all you do for guelph.

No matter how much evidence you provide to this organization, in terms of neighbours dog invading your property, several times a day. I am talking pictures and video. They lied and told me they would charge the neighbour. They do not follow through. Don't bother doing everything on your end that should be required to make this stop happening. They will only lie to you and not help you.
Thanks for nothing Emma.

I recently just adopted a dog from the GHS and it was a very good experience. Originally we wanted a certain dog and we walked her and booked a meeting to hopefully adopt. The adoption counselor called me and explained that maybe this isn't the dog for you because of certain reasons and I really appreciated that. They told me about another dog that will be coming and that they thing he would be a better fit.

We now have a crazy young lab that is perfect for us. I appreciated that they do screening and think about what would be best for the dog and the future owners.

It was a great experience. Everyone was extremely nice and helpful and I never felt unwelcome to just walk in and see all the animals.

Me and my daughter went there asking questions about being a foster care family for a pet. The volunteers and workers were awesome at answering all of our questions. The Guelph humane society is definitely a place we love to visit.

Love the Guelph humane society! We often go in to see the cats and dogs. We adopted our cat this past october and had a great experience. They let us borrow a cat carrier and followed up to make sure everything was okay after the adoption.

Found our amazing little guy here. Somehow someone had previously adopted and returned him, which we will never understand!!! The humane society was so helpful in the whole process. They require a training class be completed by adopted puppies, and our little Henry was class clown!

Awful, awful place. The small animals (guinea pigs, mice, rabbits) are kept in filthy-looking cages, placed on tall shelves (most small animals, especially guinea pigs, have an extreme fear of heights which contributes to long-term stress) and the employees provided the wrong information over the phone. Also, the adoption process is very frustrating because you need to come in to fill out an application, wait at least a week for an interview, and during the interview, the staff makes you feel like they know the pets far better than you do, and they question you as if you're a suspected animal abuser. I would not recommend this place, and I feel very bad for the animals already stuck there.

I brought my cat to camud estate emergency hospital
in guelph after he was hit by a car. I wasn't allowed to go in with him and after the assessment the doctor told me, after an ultrasound, he had no internal damage but had a sever broke leg, broke hip and mandible. The cost for surgery was $5000-$7000 but my cat should make a full recovery. I did not have that kind of money as I had been out of work due to covid and just recently started a new job. All my savings were spent but I was prepared to spend $1000 on the spot. The doctor told me the next option is $2000 but they would amputate his leg and should still live a fairly normal life. I only had a $1000 so the last option he gave me was to surrender my cat to the humane society and they would cover the costs. Surrendering my cat would mean I would never get him back but I did it so he could live. I offered the humane society my $1000 and promise to make payments to pay the rest but they refused. My cat was taken from me, the cat I saved and raised from one week old. Now our family is in an emotional limbo because we don't know if he is dead or alive. I have reached out to the Guelph humane society and spoke with the manager, but he insists that he cannot even put our mind at rest by informing us if he made it through surgery or not. Then told me if I continue to call I would be charged with harassment.
I emailed the board of directors and the executive director and anyone else I could think of asking for their help. I included photos of my family with Marcel and tried to beg for some assurance that he is okay. I have had no response from anyone. Compassion and hope is their saying but the lack of compassion for this particular circumstance is disheartening to say the least. My two year old constantly asks for him and his brother whom we also saved is fretting for him. If only the clinic or the humane society would have offered a payment plan or some other option. I didn't even get to say goodbye. He probably thinks we abandoned him. I don't know how they can say they care about the health and wellbeing of an animal then give the family no other option but to give him up without any communication. Why do they need a contract with the vets office? Why didn't you try to work with us for the money? Why didn't you help an animal and the only people he has every know stay together. When talking to the manager he explained that if we were to give him back and it happened again, you may still not have the money and be in the same situation. My question is, when you adopt an animal out do you check bank accounts to make sure they have $10000 saved for emergencies? What happened that night was not right and I would have hoped they could have corrected it. I had a lot of respect for the humane society and the work I thought they did but in my experience, they have no compassion...I mean, what about the cat? Don't you think he is missing his family? Do not take your animal to campus animal hospital in guelph, they may end up selling your animal to the humane society and if you think they will help you and your animal, they won't! At least that has been my recent experience.

***Edit Update: We called Humane Society as soon as they opened, finally found out where our new friend to be is, ADOPTED TO A DIFFERENT FAMILY. We were told numerous times that we will be called as soon as he is ready.***

***Edit***
An over weight cat was brought to us by the neighbors' children, who mistook it for ours. This mangy stray was clearly not our cat, but we took her i and gave her a room, food, and a litterbox. She came very quickly and asked for pets, cuddles, and she spent the night on or under our bed. Called the OSPCA, who we wanted to make sure it wasn't just lost and to have her looked at. We soon found out that this visit was a surrender, and after trying to retrieve the cat were told that the we will be first on the adoption list. After numerous calls, we get the same vague answers about him(turned out to be a severely overweight boy), we have no idea what has happened to him. Staff are clueless as to his location. All we know is he won't eat. We also know after 2 weeks he still had to see a vet. He ate here no problem, he was happy and comfortable.

I'm very disappointed in the adoption process and i realize there are people who should not have or can't look after a dog but when someone is willing to adopt and give a dog a great forever home and u are shot down it's not right and very disappointing i believe that every adoption process should be treated individually not as whole

I love the Guelph humane society, great cause. I dropped off a bunch of cat toys, cat items, and bags of dog food a couple weeks ago. The location needs to be more advertised as it's hard to spot from the road and it's fairly small from what I could see. I have heard they are looking to move to a bigger and better located spot in Guelph which I am looking forward to. This one lacks parking and seems a bit cramped.

Keep up the good work volunteers and full-time staff, you're doing a great job!

I adopted a cat from the Guelph Humane Society a year ago and they truly care a lot about the animals in there care! Many of the staff even take home animals to keep them company during long nights! Amazing shelter and I would highly recommend popping in to visit the cats, dogs, small animals, and reptiles!

The staff do an amazing job, all the animals we met were amazing in their own way. If you are thinking of getting a new friend I highly recommend you try adopting from here first before going elsewhere. Every animal deserves a loving home and a fresh start in some cases. Nothing more special than being able to offer that.

I gave one star because i had to put something down. They bully people who take great care of animals. It must be a slow season for them because looks like they have nothing to do. We are taking this further for wrongfully coming on our property acting up and bullying us.

We were lucky enough to adopt an adult cat from the Guelph Humane Society, and he has been an absolute joy.

To the credit of GHS, they provided him with much-needed medical care, and supported us in adopting a cat with potential medical needs by providing us with initial post-operative medications and by giving us his medical records in advance so that we could forward them to our vet prior to adoption. They also carefully went over his history so that we could understand what we were taking on.

The facilities at GHS are clean and pleasant. The staff and volunteers clearly take great pride in the services they provide, and this pride is absolutely warranted.

The staff were friendly and helpful throughout the process, and we feel so very fortunate that we chose GHS.
