This small state park near Syracuse was unknown to me until very recently. A friend discovered it and brought me out. It's know for it's outstanding emerald green water, and even though I went as a storm arrived I could clearly see why. The lakes are surrounded by a well kept walking trail, with exceptionally well placed benches for amazing views. It's surrounded by trees, many of which are just turning color now. On the day of these pics it suddenly whipped up a storm so these don't do it justice. A hidden gem in central New York.

Green Lakes State Park is a hidden gem near Syracuse, NY. Two lakes (Green Lake and Round Lake), beautiful walking trails around both (3 miles start to finish), a sandy beach and swimming at the end of Green Lake (with life guards on duty and a well stocked snack bar), numerous clean rest rooms, camp grounds (tent, cabin or RV) with more clean rest rooms and showers, a Robert Trent Jones designed (6213 yards, par 71) 18-hole golf course, a great 19th hole , disc golf, fishing, biking, and in the winter x-country skiing and snow shoeing. The lakes are super-clean and get their name because of their beautiful emerald green color, unlike any I've seen before. Legend has it that the bottom of the lakes have never been found. We camped here 2 days and were blown away by the beauty of the lakes and trails and the first-class facilities. We'll be back for sure, next time for a week.

It was my first time at this beautiful lake and I must say the lake is the best part . On the down side , way way to many ppl for starters. The lack of respect for the rules blew me away . Ppl swimming where there not suppose to and the amount of trash on the ground was mind blowing. Is it a place to go ? yes it is . To me it feels like that lake is being over used by ignorant ppl with no respect for the wildlife .

This is a gem. I never get tired of going here to walk around both lakes and into the old forest growth area. Round Lake and the old growth forest are especially peaceful as less people venture back there. Beautiful.

Great place for running, biking, hiking, swimming, golfing, and camping. Fishing on Green Lake was subpar. Mostly very small panfish.
Amenities and bathroom/showering facilities in the newly improved loops were very nice.

Water was really cold, snorkeling wasn't allowed, facilities are nice and clean, alot of distressed trees, huge place, definitely interested in a full tour so far the place is absolutely amazing ! Wolf pack of Troopers before you exit the park definitely was B.S.

Beautiful place with very special formations and good information. Be prepared for the beach to be really loud with kids and people to disobey park rules and go off the paths into protected areas. Still a very fun park that appeals to a variety of interests!

Crystal clean waters. Breath taking views threw the water. Fish can be seen swimming as well as crawfish walking across the bottom. The camping facilities are nice as well. Highly recommended!

My favorite beach. The beach is well groomed and all sand (no sharp rocks or shells), nice picnic areas with grills, a playground and beautiful walking trails to see the unique nature of the lakes

Of course green lakes is lovely. I'm excited to see the improvements they're (I guess) doing right now. There was a lot of construction going on in the fall, so things were torn up and a mess somewhat. Hopefully it's worth it!

Nice sized beach area, food and drinks available on site. Didn't see any grills placed but I'm sure they're there somewhere. Swimming area is a little small for my liking but it's perfect for kids. Overall a nice little park, $8 to get in on a Sunday.

I'm a disabled veteran and went to go kayaking but a ranger wouldn't allow us - kayak rentals must be returned at 7 and taken out at 6. We arrived at 5:58 and there were plenty of boats. Obviously this park doesn't care about veterans or their patrons.

Was really nice well maintained. Lots to do on site, camping hiking and a ton of other things. The water gets a really cool blue green. They had a zoo event on site for free. Well worth the drive. Definitely going back again.
