Overall, my trip was pretty alright. But I wouldn't recommend Indus to friends or family. I'll probably head into a small rant here. If you want an okay trip they can do okay, but for something amazing, you'll need to use another company. My only opinion is based on South Africa. So I don't know if other locations are superior as far as their service is concerned.
Booking was terrible. I've since read over half a dozen reviews complaining about Keren Samuels.
I purchased 4 tickets for myself, my husband, my daughter and mother in-law. So we were pretty invested in this adventure and excited! We bought the tickets in October for a May trip. We did some initial paperwork with Indus. As the trip drew closer, I had to keep calling Keren to try and book our flights. She kept putting me off saying it wasn't close enough. That was fine. But I had to keep following up with her. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Aren't I the customer? We finally booked flights about 5-6 weeks ahead and of our 4 flights, NONE of our seats were together. Made me think maybe booking earlier was possible and she had just procrastinated.
Well, we made the flights and arrived unharmed in Cape Town South Africa. The Indus representative met us and proceeded to tell us we needed foreign currency to tip the shuttle driver to load our bags to the hotel. No thanks. Handle this small thing for me. I'm exhausted.
Upon arriving at the hotel, Sun Square, we were told our rooms were on different floors. Instead of apologizing and making it right, it became a "who is at fault battle". Well Indus didn't tell the hotel. Well, Indus says they did. Anyways, we had to wait 2 hours to get adjacent rooms as I wanted to be near my 12 year old daughter.
More drama ensued as every time we saw the Indus rep she was pressuring us to buy the daily tours. We had purchased one tour out of the 3 tours available. It was to take the tram to the top of Table Mountain. The tour also included seeing Camps Bay, etc. This was a half day tour that cost $40 each. We paid in advance. We were told the day before the tour that we would need to buy our own tram tickets. They were $25 a piece. Then what was the $40 a piece for??? Included in our itinerary it says that tram tickets are "(weather permitting, own account)". The term "own account" doesn't mean hey, you have to buy those additionally to me. I complained and Indus arranged to cover our tram tickets. They also called ahead to our next hotel to make sure we had adjacent rooms. That was much appreciated. Camps Bay was not included in our tour. There was some confusion and we were stuck on a bus tour of the city instead. With no stops for pictures. It was very odd. I would recommend taking Uber up to Table Mountain. You don't need a tour. Uber is everywhere in Cape Town and very cheap.
Just a note, The Sun Square hotel in Cape Town has AMAZING food for very reasonable prices. Breakfast is included an they have a terrific buffet. It's not in my favorite part of town, but it was nice and clean.
Upon departing to the airport to go to Entabeni Game reserve. There was no representative from Indus or a shuttle to the airport. The hotel scrambled and found us another shuttle for another group we were able to join.
Entabeni Game Reserve is really Great. They are pretty organized. Although our lodging was changed at the last minute and we weren't informed. We all thought we were going to Ravinside Lodge and ended up at Lakeside lodge. It was really nice, but a little unsettling to have no warning. Thinking we might be in the wrong place. Lakeside Lodge is amazing! Beautiful views and the full Safari experience. They have an in house Chef which really rocked our worlds. All the meals were included and fantastic. The rooms there all have their own fireplaces, vaulted thatched roof ceilings and your own patio overlooking the lake and mount Entabeni. Seriously a cool place.
