Sadly, it's NOT what it used to be.

Sadly, it's NOT what it used to be.

2 stars because it was not worth the expense. We had a good weekend but not because of our accommodations. Good parts: Horse drawn wagon ride. Good food. Lake view.

He's wearing his coat inside for a reason (picture.) I requested a specific cabin that we'd had before. I'd called to change our reservation to a different weekend so I asked a real person, on the phone (because their application for my phone didn't like the reservation change), and was told that we would have it. When we got there, we got the "bait and switch" but thought that because we'd had such great experiences before (this was our 5th stay in 9 years) it would be just as nice.
We've stayed in the main lodge, at The Pines (on the golf course) and in the cabins on the south side the main lodge. All were great. Cabin 202 would be nice in the summer, as the view was wonderful, but it was not appropriate for this mild winter weekend. It would have been horrible on an actually cold weekend. There was no fireplace and though the (overcrowded) bedroom was warm the overall cabin heating was uneven. We wore coats inside our cabin to keep warm. There wasn't even extra bedding. The cabin we'd had before had a fireplace and a bath tub. Not cabin 202. The sanyo remote in the living room didn't work with the LG tv. We did find the living room remote between the bed and the window (in the bedroom) as we were packing to leave. Their focus is clearly on the new buildings. The new hotel & the new pool house were nice but that charming "northwoods warm winter getaway" we've enjoyed before was not especially warm or charming. The food and service were as good as ever, especially considering how busy it was. But it wasn't a relaxing retreat as it has been.
The campus is now overcrowded with buildings and people. It's ok if that is what you want. Bring your own blankets. Be prepared to wait everywhere you go. It's no longer a hidden gem, it's now mounted in a gigantic setting for all to "enjoy." If that's what you're into. Also we were booked for 4 people in this cabin. There was no place to put our clothes. There was no dresser in the bedroom. There was a single nightstand between the 2 beds. It did have a small drawer.
The game room in the lower level of the main lodge has fewer games than before and some were not working. My son discovered this after we'd bought the pass card to pay for them. It's not a big deal, but it was just another thing that has gone downhill.

My husband had an item stolen from his room. After 8 calls to the management, and not a single response, the item was not recovered ( from housekeeping) nor replaced by management. The annual corporate golf outing will definitely not get my vote to be held there and all will hear about the management s lack of response.

We stayed with friends and attended The Distilled event. Stayed on the 8th fairway condos, nice place. It's nice to have the shuttle bring you around the resort. You don't have to worry about drinking too much.

Great for a family vacation. Stayed in a unit close to the lodge, pool and activity areas during a long winter weekend. Lots of fun things to do for my littles (almost 2 and 4). Would come back

We stayed at the Townhomes on the 8th Fairway. Plenty of room for 3 families. A wonderful stay. The kids loved the pool and water slides. Sign up for tubing on the lake-- a great weekend away! (We attended a wedding-- beautiful!)

Had a memorial service in the same building at the same as a meeting for a business and Lodge was not willing to relocate the meeting to accommodate the family. Hard day for the family already and this caused more stress.

First impression, cute. Nice people.

First impression, cute. Nice people.

We stayed in room 1 in the main lodge. The room is slanted, there s no mirror in the room other than the bathroom. We came up for a wedding and obviously needed to get ready kind of hard with 1 mirror and no full length mirror. I get this was built a long time ago but the slanted room needs to be fixed. The bed isn t adjusted accordingly either and for $150+ a night, that s ridiculously overpriced for this.

We stayed in a cabin overlooking the Gull lake. The patio opened to the shores. The view was splendid , something I will cherish forever. But the room wasn't too clean, was dusty at many spots, and as I had a small child that wasn't very pleasant feel. The breakfast buffet was good. Would comeback but wish we get cleaner rooms the next time.

My family visited for a wedding last summer, and the children thought they'd died and gone to heaven when they saw the hot tub in our room! It was a beautiful venue for a wedding, the chapel is sweet, the pool is fun, and we enjoyed a horsedrawn wagon ride. The kids liked the arcade, and the parents liked the short drive to downtown Nisswa. All had a "grand" old time.

We will be regulars going forward. This place is exactly what i ve been searching for in a Minnesota resort privacy, relaxation, and a splash of fun. We have always loved Nisswa, but Grand View Lodge is a gem. We stayed in the Golf Suites (the condos facing the golf course) studio room. I severely underestimated what we would get for our money based on our past experience in a similar resort. Our room included 2 king sized beds, a jetted tub, mini kitchen equipped with all the essentials, and a GIANT SHOWER. I mean it i have never seen a shower so large. I would say, however it would have been nicer to have a better shower head given the gargantuan size of the shower itself, but that is seriously my only complaint. We had a noise complaint on our first night that was promptly and respectfully taken care of, and we were assured we wouldn t have the same problem in the nights going forward. Some of the amenities we enjoyed during our Christmastime stay: WONDERFUL breakfast buffet, adults-only hot tub time, indoor pool, heated igloos with board games, horse-drawn sleigh rides, ice skating, and more. If you are thinking of trying Grand View Lodge for the first time DO IT. It is worth it.

Love this place. They make relaxing easy. The beach is wonderful. It was neat to watch all of the kiddos having so much fun. Lots to do for everyone. Breakfast buffet was very good. Some of the onsite restaurants are not open on Monday-Tuesdays. But there are some excellent restaurants that are not far away. Staff was very friendly and helpful with the exception of the women who was working the Chocolate Ox. She wasn't rude or mean, just not has outgoing and friendly as everyone else.

The lodge was beautiful, the amenities we're plentiful, and everything was perfect!...except the service we had at the restaurant last night. Not sure what was going on but the server was either not on his game or had never served before. We got our sides AFTER we had finished the entrees and he had no clue that this was, ya know, a bad thing. Took forever to get anything out and the only thing he was going to do was have the cook come out and talk to us. For what's usually a great stay, that part was kind of a bummer. BUT don't let one bad server hold ya back, Jack our pontoon guy was awesome, the front desk clerk we're quick, and our bike helpers were more than...helpful!

We had our wedding here, and it was an absolutely perfect experience. I grew up in Minnesota and have since moved away, and chose Grand View without seeing it in person first. So glad I did. Kara and Becky, our wedding planners, helped us so much with making decisions from afar, even though both myself and my husband have weird schedules that make it hard to schedule a phone call. They were amazing through the entire process, made us feel like family, and even hand delivered a gift to our cabin before we departed. The venue is gorgeous, the food was incredible, and there were tons of lodging and activity options for everyone that came to celebrate our wedding with us. They took care of a lot of things for us, allowing for a stress-free wedding experience so we could just enjoy a weekend at the lake with our favorite people. We have heard over and over from our guests that it is the best wedding they have ever been to!
