Gould Farm is inaccessible to the 99%

Gould Farm is inaccessible to the 99%
It is $350 a day and they accept no insurance.

My sister has a mental health disability and her doctors encouraged her to apply to Gould Farm for a year. She is a Berkshire resident, so even the local doctors must be unaware of just how inaccessible this organization is. Disgusting.

My family member was supported so well at Gould Farm by the 360 degrees of care. At home we could provide therapy and family therapy, but it wasn t nearly enough to help with the devastating effects of emergent mental health issues. At Gould Farm, the program covered all aspects of recovery and my family member healed well and is still doing well 4 years later. I am so appreciative of the caring staff and well tested program at Gould Farm.

The best care, program, and communication with fam...

The best care, program, and communication with family we ve ever experienced. I cannot stress enough the importance of a whole health program like Gould Farm. An incredible loving environment, with staff that place guests as their top priority with individual plans and equality of services. They listen! My adult child was there from 23 - 26 and there has never been a more valuable experience for our entire family. I could write 2000+ words of praise.

1. Guest are not viewed as patients but as esteemed members of a community.
2. Guests have a voice and their input into their own care is valued
3. The recovery process is not a list of goals and markers, it is fluid. Always taking into account the guests best interest. Trust it
4. Staff treat all guests with dignity, empathy, compassion and never yell or dismiss them.
5. Staff live on site and create a family environment they want to raise their own kid in.
6. Response times for calls and emails are immediate.
7. There is always a staff member there for guests.
8. Staff never break the professional wall. The separation of business and care is clear. Guests are never burdened with staff issues.
9. Guests are supportive of each other because the environment holds space for healthy relationships. Any guest disagreements are completely worked through to resolution.
10. It s an oasis among too many institutions that lack in every area of care.

My adult child wants to return. Feel free to contact me personally and I will share our experience.

I have worked at Gould Farm since 2003 as a psychiatrist, working with guests to identify their correct diagnosis, and then to find the least amount of medication that helps them function at their best. I work closely with the other members of the clinical team. I feel privileged to work with the guests who I serve there, and find them to be each unique, but on the whole, creative, talented, and very engaged in their recovery from their illness and struggles. I also find the other team members to be talented, experienced clinicians who really think about guests as whole people and not just a diagnosis. Without a doubt, working at Gould Farm has made me a better person, more attentive to and appreciative of engaging openly with the people in my life, my family, my patients, friends, and colleagues .

Gould Farm doesn t refuse to take people who have tried to kill themselves. I know. I applied to the Farm from a locked ward. I attempted suicide while I was in that ward. The Farm was told all about it. They nevertheless admitted me. I knew a number of people at the Farm who had attempted to kill themselves. I would never discourage a person who had attempted suicide from applying to Gould Farm.
