About Girls for a change
Girls for a Change: Empowering Black Girls to Change the World
Girls For A Change (GFAC) is a nonprofit organization that aims to empower Black girls and prepare them for the world. The organization was founded in 2000 by three women who wanted to create a safe space where young Black girls could come together, share their experiences, and learn from each other.
The mission of GFAC is to inspire Black girls to become leaders of change in their communities. The organization provides programs and resources that help young girls develop leadership skills, build self-confidence, and learn about social justice issues.
One of the core programs offered by GFAC is the Girl Action Teams (GATs). These teams consist of groups of 8-12 girls who work together on projects that address social issues in their communities. The GATs are led by trained facilitators who provide guidance and support throughout the project.
Another program offered by GFAC is the Change Your World Academy (CYWA). This program provides intensive training for high school-aged girls who are interested in becoming leaders in their communities. The CYWA curriculum includes workshops on leadership development, public speaking, community organizing, and more.
In addition to these programs, GFAC also offers mentorship opportunities for young Black women. The organization partners with local businesses and community organizations to connect mentees with successful professionals who can provide guidance and support as they navigate their careers.
GFAC has had a significant impact on the lives of many young Black women over the years. Through its programs and resources, GFAC has helped countless girls develop confidence in themselves as leaders while also raising awareness about important social justice issues affecting their communities.
If you're interested in supporting this important work or getting involved with Girls For A Change yourself, there are many ways you can do so.
