Over 3 years ago, my husband and I wanted to find a program that could teach my children to swim. We joined the Y in Carondelet Park. My kids learned to swim very quickly. I found a fantastic place to exercise and new friends. While waiting during swimming lessons, I looked through the class offerings and tried many. I've enjoyed all of them and feel that joking the Y has been one of the best decisions my family has made.
I open up my Y app and ask me for a password and I couldn't get in. I ask the receptionist many times and can't get in for my classes. What is going on?
Front desk is nice and helpful. I like this location better than some of them downtown. It is much less crowded. I can go in, do my workout and be done without waiting. The one thing that I would change is the swim break every 45 min. I am a distance swimmer. I can not do 2 to 3 miles warm up and stretch in 45 min. If they could have just a 10 min break every 60 minutes, that may be a compromise. Adult only swim during break would be idea.
Great front door parking, locker rooms not crowded, and it is very clean.
I m 26 and my family and I have been a member of the YMCA since I was 5 years old. My experiences at the YMCA have always been pleasant up until about a year ago. Last June 2018, I was forced to file a restraining order against my ex-boyfriend, who was also a member at the YMCA. This man could be quite charming and had a close relationship with the front desk staff, specifically the females... so close that he was awarded a free membership at one point, even though he made over $100k a year as a union plumber and firefighter/paramedic. As a single mom and someone who doesn t make nearly as much money, but correctly budgeted to make it work for my family, I found this to be unfair to others who don t have the means to afford a membership. As I said, this man had a close relationship with Mary and Jenny, both managers. When my restraining was finalized, the judge ordered that he could no longer attend the YMCA. This was when I started to realize I had begun to be treated unfairly at the South County location. The front desk staff was no longer friendly to me, the managers would give me disrespectful looks in passing, if there was ever an issue it was never resolved. A few months ago, my car was deeply keyed, I was at the YMCA only for an hour for my daughter s gymnastics practice, the front desk staff told me the cameras were not able to see the place of my car. It wouldn t surprise me if an employee was the one to key my car. On June 21st, I received an email from Jenn, who has coached my daughter in gymnastics since she was three. The email informed me that the YMCA executives had terminated her, as well as others, employment effective immediately. Jenn also informed me that she was not aware what would happen to Tiny Team moving forward. On July 1st, I called the front desk at the South County YMCA, asking if the Tiny Team had practice at their normal time, 6pm. They said yes. My daughter, her uncle, and I show up for practice only to find the doors locked with a note saying no practice from July 1- July 7. On July 8th, I called the front desk staff asking for Joan, the gymnastics director. It went to voicemail, so I called the front desk again, asking if there was practice for Tiny Team at 6pm. They told me yes. For dual diligence, I decided to email Joan. I asked her what changes will be happening to Tiny Team now that Jenn is no longer there, she responded letting me know that my daughter could continue coming on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-645pm for the pandas, which I believe is a low-level class. Or she could attend on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 445pm to practice with coaches. I responded to Joan explaining how I was disappointed this is the first time I m being communicated with about this change, but never received a response. After the third time I was being told incorrect information by the front desk staff and director, I decided to call and ask for the head manager, they said they would transfer me to Jenny who has been disrespectful to me before. Once I was on the phone with Jenny, I started to tell her a little bit of the gymnastics situation, she cut me off and asked me for my daughter s name. I was reluctant to disclose this to her, because then she would know who I was and not be helpful. As soon as I told her my daughter s name, Jenny s demeanor changed, and she became disrespectful as I expected. She informed me that she emailed me about the changes to Tiny Team weeks ago, I let her know I never got it. She responded with, well is this your email? Because I sent it. I told her that I check my email all throughout the day and I never received it. I also added the fact that two times now her front desk staff has told me there is practice when there isn t. She wasn t interested to hear how her front desk staff was communicating false information, and proceeded to say, well maybe you shouldn t be a member here anymore . The conversation ended with profanity and disappointment. AVOID SOUTH COUNTY LOCATION AT ALL COSTS.
This review is regarding the South City Y in STL. I am curious if you support allowing barefeet in the gym.
The facility is clean but the weight room area is untidy. The clients don't pick up after themselves and the staff seem oblivious the mess. I can't stand working out in an unorganized/untidy area so I clean up after others so I feel comfortable with my work out routine.
The staff allow clients to work out barefoot or in flip flops/sandals. After complaints I was told by 3 staff members that they allow members to work out bare foot because the signage says "should" not must wear appropriate gym attire and/or foot wear. With that loose interpretation I guess you can also work out without a shirt? According to your staff I should but not must wear appropriate attire?
I could go to another fitness center for much less cost than the Y. I remain a customer because it is a non-profit and it is in walking distance from my home.
