Concerning the engineering division management:
A friend of mine joined Gast as an intern through his college's engineering program. Due to his own personal reasons (dislike of the work environment e.g. stuck in a small, unlit cubical doing busywork), he did not continue with the internship. When he called his employer to resign, he seemed to have hung up on my friend mid-sentence. My friend expressed worries about the HR lady, whom he said talked openly of how she seemed to want to try to ruin the educational career of another intern who did not show up. Once my friend resigned, it seemed as though she tried to do the same to him. Gast contacted his school through contacts other than those involved in coordinating internships, spreading the word that he left this job with the supposed intention to tarnish his name. Additionally, my friend had been working with a contact from a separate department of Gast for a school project, a relationship completely unrelated to the internship. Once he resigned, the other contact emailed him and his group, offering to continue to work with the other group members but not with my friend despite the project having no connections to his employment.
As a member of the public and potential customer of Gast, I am disgusted to hear how they have treated my friend during and after his employment. No professional company would attempt to sabotage an intern's educational career just because the intern choose to discontinue work. The fact that some of the higher management at Gast cannot accept a resignation with grace shows a lack of integrity. While they may be bitter about losing an intern, their actions are unethical and pathetic. The other departments of Gast may be perfectly fine with understanding and compassionate employers, but the attitude of the engineering division management and its associates ruin Gast's image.
Customer service in the warranty department is terrible. I've been on hold for over an hour regarding a defective pump and have not spoken to one person yet. The website is not providing a chat area or email address either. Not seeing anything good about this company from my own experience.
