Future Problem Solving Program: Empowering the Next Generation of Innovators
In today's fast-paced and ever-changing world, it is essential to equip our youth with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed. The Future Problem Solving Program (FPSP) is a global initiative that aims to do just that. With a focus on critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving, FPSP empowers students to become innovative leaders who can tackle complex challenges in their communities and beyond.
What is FPSP?
FPSP was founded in 1974 by Dr. E. Paul Torrance, a renowned psychologist and creativity expert. The program began as an extracurricular activity for gifted students in Georgia but quickly expanded into a global movement with participants from over 40 countries.
The core of FPSP is its competitive component – the Future Problem Solving (FPS) process. This process involves identifying potential future problems or challenges facing society, analyzing their causes and effects, generating creative solutions, and developing action plans for implementation.
Students work in teams of four or six under the guidance of trained coaches or mentors who help them develop their critical thinking skills through various activities such as brainstorming sessions, research projects, debates, simulations etc.
The program has four levels: Junior Division (grades 4-6), Middle Division (grades 7-9), Senior Division (grades 10-12), and Adult Division (for educators). Each level has its own set of topics related to current issues such as climate change, technology advancements etc., which are updated annually.
Why Choose FPSP?
FPSP offers numerous benefits for both students and educators alike:

They also get access to resources like lesson plans , curriculum guides etc . which can be used while teaching other subjects too .
How Does FPSP Work?
To participate in FPS competitions at any level - Junior/Middle/Senior/Adult - schools must register with their respective state affiliate organization first . Once registered they receive all necessary materials including topic guides & practice packets .
Each competition consists of two rounds - Qualifying Round & Affiliate Finals Round . In Qualifying round teams compete against each other within their school district/state/country depending upon the level they are participating at . Top scoring teams advance further into Affiliate Finals round where they compete against top scoring teams from other districts/states/countries until one team emerges victorious !
Apart from FPS competitions there are several other programs offered by FPSP :
1 ) Global Issues Problem Solving(GIPS): This program focuses on solving real-world problems related to global issues such as climate change , poverty alleviation etc .
2 ) Community Problem Solving(CmPS): This program focuses on solving community-specific problems identified by student-led groups working collaboratively with community stakeholders .
