About Future 5
Future 5: Empowering Low-Income High School Students to Achieve Their Full Potential
Future 5 is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping low-income high school students in Stamford, Connecticut connect with their full potential. The organization was founded in 2009 by Clif McFeely, who saw the need for a program that would provide support and guidance to students who were facing significant challenges in their lives.
The mission of Future 5 is to empower these students by providing them with the tools and resources they need to succeed academically, socially, and professionally. Through a combination of mentoring, tutoring, career coaching, and community service opportunities, Future 5 helps its participants develop the skills and confidence they need to become independent and productive citizens.
One of the unique aspects of Future 5's approach is its focus on building relationships between mentors and mentees. Each student who participates in the program is paired with a volunteer mentor who serves as a role model and provides guidance on everything from academic planning to job search strategies. These relationships are built over time through regular meetings and activities designed to foster trust and mutual respect.
In addition to one-on-one mentoring, Future 5 offers group tutoring sessions led by experienced educators. These sessions are designed to help students improve their academic performance in subjects like math, science, English language arts (ELA), social studies/history etc., which can be particularly challenging for low-income students due lack of resources or other factors beyond their control.
Another key component of Future 5's program is career coaching. The organization works closely with local businesses and community organizations to provide internships or job shadowing opportunities for its participants so that they can gain real-world experience while also exploring different career paths available after graduation from high school.
Finally, community service plays an important role at Future 5 as well. Participants are encouraged (and sometimes required)to engage in volunteer work within Stamford area so that they can give back while also developing leadership skills such as teamwork or communication etc., which will serve them well throughout life regardless what path they choose after high school graduation.
Overall,Future Five has been successful at empowering low-income high school students through its comprehensive approach towards education, career development, and community engagement.Their efforts have helped many young people overcome obstacles such as poverty, family issues, lack of access/resources etc.,and achieve success both academically & professionally. If you're looking for an opportunity where you can make difference then consider volunteering your time or donating money towards this worthy cause!
