Franconia Mennonite Church: A Community of Faith and Service
Franconia Mennonite Church is a vibrant and welcoming community of believers located in Telford, Pennsylvania. Led by the Holy Spirit, we are an Anabaptist congregation committed to following Jesus in all things. Our mission is to share the love of Christ with our neighbors and the world through worship, service, and fellowship.
Our History
The Franconia Mennonite Church has a rich history that dates back to 1733 when Swiss-German immigrants settled in the Franconia area of Pennsylvania. These early settlers were part of the Anabaptist movement that emerged during the Protestant Reformation in Europe. They believed in adult baptism, pacifism, and living a simple life based on biblical principles.
Over time, this community grew and established several congregations throughout eastern Pennsylvania. In 1847, Franconia Mennonite Conference was formed as a way for these congregations to work together on common issues such as education and missions.
Today, Franconia Mennonite Church is part of Franconia Conference which includes over 40 congregations across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C.
Our Beliefs
As Anabaptists we believe that faith should be lived out daily through our actions as well as our words. We seek to follow Jesus' example by loving God with all our heart soul mind strength (Mark 12:30)and loving our neighbor as ourselves (Mark 12:31). We also believe that peace-making is central to Christian discipleship (Matthew 5:9).
We practice believer's baptism which means that individuals make their own decision to follow Christ before being baptized by immersion in water. This symbolizes dying to self and rising again with Christ into new life (Romans 6:4).
We also practice foot washing which is an act of humility and service to one another. This practice is based on Jesus' example when he washed his disciples' feet before the Last Supper (John 13:1-17).
Our Worship
We gather for worship every Sunday at 10:15 AM. Our services are a blend of traditional and contemporary elements including hymns, praise songs, scripture readings, prayer, and preaching.
We also have a strong emphasis on community singing which allows everyone to participate in worship regardless of musical ability. We believe that music is an important way to express our faith and connect with God.
In addition to Sunday worship, we have several other opportunities for spiritual growth including Bible studies, prayer groups, and retreats.
Our Service
As followers of Christ we are called to serve others in love (Galatians 5:13). We seek to live out this calling by serving our local community as well as supporting global missions.
Locally we partner with organizations such as Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) which provides relief work around the world. We also support local food banks and homeless shelters through donations and volunteer work.
Globally we support missionaries who are working in areas such as Africa Asia Latin America Europe Middle East North America Oceania South America . These missionaries share the love of Christ through evangelism education healthcare social justice work among other things .
Conclusion
Franconia Mennonite Church is a community of faith that seeks to follow Jesus in all things. Our history dates back over 280 years but our commitment to living out our faith remains strong today. We invite you to join us for worship or any of our other activities as we seek together what it means to be followers of Christ in today's world.
