Foundation for Future London: Empowering Communities through Creative Placemaking
Foundation for Future London is an independent charity that was established in 2015. As one of the largest grant-making and fundraising organizations focused on the people and places of East Bank, we have a vital role in supporting diverse, underserved communities. Our mission is to facilitate creative placemaking to grow creative and social value-led economies through learning, training, and employment via arts, education, culture, and innovation.
At Foundation for Future London, we believe that everyone deserves access to opportunities that can help them achieve their full potential. We are committed to empowering communities by providing them with the resources they need to thrive. Through our work in creative placemaking, we aim to create vibrant spaces where people can come together to learn new skills, express themselves creatively and build stronger connections with each other.
Our approach is centered around collaboration – we work closely with local residents, businesses and community groups to identify their needs and co-create solutions that are tailored specifically for them. By taking a bottom-up approach that puts people at the heart of everything we do, we ensure that our projects are relevant and impactful.
One of our flagship initiatives is the East Bank Cultural Quarter – a major development project located on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford. The project aims to create a world-class destination for culture education innovation by bringing together some of the UK's leading cultural institutions including Sadler's Wells Theatre Company; BBC Symphony Orchestra; V&A Museum; University College London (UCL); UAL’s London College of Fashion (LCF) & Theatre Royal Stratford East.
Through this initiative Foundation for Future London has been able to support local artists by providing them with affordable studio space as well as opportunities for training mentoring networking showcasing their work locally nationally & internationally.
We also run several programs aimed at promoting creativity among young people from disadvantaged backgrounds such as ArtWorks Young Artists Development Programme, which provides training and mentoring to young artists aged 16-25. Our Creative Futures program offers a range of creative courses for young people aged 14-19, including filmmaking, music production, and fashion design.
In addition to our work in creative placemaking, we also support community-led initiatives that aim to improve the quality of life for local residents. For example, we have provided funding for projects such as community gardens and food co-operatives that promote healthy eating habits and sustainable living.
At Foundation for Future London, we are committed to making a positive impact on the communities we serve. We believe that by working together with local residents and businesses, we can create a brighter future for everyone.
