Absolutely love our public library system! I loved them before the pandemic for the vast collection of books, topics of free classes given, beautiful downtown building, reasonable hours, borrowing policies (3 weeks), and helpful, friendly staff. In this new way of moving about in the world they are doing a great job creatively dealing with helping get books in the hands of library patrons. They are also a fantastic resource for ebooks and free movie streaming with Kanopy. Thank you fvrl!

Pros: Gorgeous library, incredible vista/terrace, friendly librarians.
Cons: Extremely limited parking...and creepy security.
I was sitting on the (if I remember correctly) 4th floor in front of the two glass walled "pay to use" rooms and started doing a bit of work on my laptop. I sat there for a while, loosing track of time when all of a sudden I got the feeling that I was being watched. I glanced to my right looking towards the glass doors of the work rooms and what was being reflected back at me nearly made me jump out of my chair. Out of the corner of my eye I caught the reflection of one of the security guards, arms folded, in an aggressive stance, leering directly at me through one of the book cases. At first, I thought I was mistaken and he couldn't possibly be that creepy. However, after 5 mins and him still not moving (or at least batting an eyelash) I whipped my head up and made direct eye contact with the prick and leered back. After 10 seconds the stalker got the message that I wasn't intimidated by him, turned on his heels,and quickly tucked tail and ran. I have made visits to the downtown library a rarity now.

This is one of the Best Libraries I have ever been to!! The children's floor (3) is amazing!! I've seen parking comments, yes "free" parking, behind the library, is limited, but there is plenty of street (metered) parking all around, and personally I don't mind a short stroll to this GREAT place!!

The library is very nice. Never had a problem. The drag is the parking, and long wet (in winter) walk to front door, but I heard by word of mouth, we can thank the city of Vancouver for this glitch in the road....

I love the downtown library--the warm, friendly staff, the coffee, the views of the city/river . . . it's a great place, but . . . not only is the parking limited, but it is problematic for people like me who need to use the library for 4+ hours of work each visit. How about some long-term, near-by parking for serious users?

It's a beautiful building, but the lobby is filled with homeless people taking advantage of free wifi. They are right outside the entrance, too. Sometimes they're confrontational. The city needs to come up with a solution to this problem.

they have a sucky schedule, like why arent they open on saturdays? i understamd sundays, but SATURDAYS IS TOO FAR!!!
