When my coaching began, I was stepping up to a new role and a very new corporate culture. This was quite a change for me. While Lisa and I had some very frank and pointed conversations, they never felt anything but respectful. It was obvious that she believed in me and that made me believe in myself even more. She also took the time to get to know me and understand my personality. By doing this, she was able to walk me through situations and provide feedback via role playing, storytelling and alternative language and behaviors which I might use to handle specific, (and often tricky), situations.
The results I saw were astounding! I saw myself using new options in meetings, in the hallways, and with my own direct reports. I had other employees saying things like I did what you did and It WORKED! or I will take your advice because it changed the way I see the situation . I went from the guy who would make a joke out of awkwardness to the guy who had the answers to difficult situations!
