Good brunch in downtown Oakland. Good place for a meal if you are checking out Fox Theatre. They take reservations for brunch and dinner. The chicken and waffles are excellent. Good cocktail menu as well.

The signature cocktails are awesome. We tried one of the appetizers but they all looked delicious. The parmesan focaccia bread was tasty. We tried the duck and the burger and both were great.

The small plates were delish. The ambiance was awesome too. I went because they're closing and I've always wanted to go. My mom Flora passed away 3 months ago and I wanted to make sure I made it.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere and how it is a bit small and quaint. The food was excellent. My only concern is that the menu is a bit short for those with dietary restriction, like myself. The servers were very patient and considerate with my questions about the menu. Also, the cocktails are great!!

NOW CLOSED. Nothing special. Perfunctory service, stuffy atmosphere because of no air conditioning. 85 degrees inside the restaurant during our dinner. Only thing it has going for it-it's across the street from the Fox Theater.

The visit there was for a special event: the Art Deco Society of California Members' Appreciation Party. What a great place to have the party: the exterior and interior is very "Art Deco" in its architecture and interior design.

It was different than what I expected as the menu was a little limited but I must say I was pleasantly surprised. I had the waffle with bacon and it was very good. We also had the beignets and they were delicious. I didn't drink any coffee but my 2 companions both had the coffee and fell in love. They say it was one if the best cups of coffee they've ever had. The waiter was very nice he let us have a sample of the Salted Carmel Pudding and it is to die for. I will definitely back to get a full serving of that it is a must have.

The restaurant is always good though our waitress was so slow we had to repeatedly get up and request items/order. But the steak and halibut were great, the cocktails lovely, and the desserts were beyond fabulous. Also interesting bar drinks and excellent coffee.

Had a really enjoyable dinner with friends. Very good selection of food, very good friendly service and good value (not too expensive). You should get reservations as it was bust on Tuesday night. Bar next door is good too. Extra star of service for the bartender as he brought over my sport coat to restaurant I had left.
Cool Art Deco look inside and out too.

This is a quintessential french restaurant, and one of the best in San Francisco. It's a tiny place, with classic european style small tables.

I have been here a few times with friends and family and have always left satisfied. I usually get the complete crepe which has ham, gruyere, and a fried egg. It's so delicious with the runny yolk mixing with the cheese. I would recommend trying this crepe.v

The menu changed a bit over the years along with the seasonal oyster offerings, but the highlight of my last couple visits has to be the oyster shooter (sake, ponzu, sea urchin/uni, salmon caviar/ikura, quail egg) and the Shigoku oysters. Shigoku is creamy yet briney; small but meaty, and has replaced Naked Cowboy and Kumamoto as my most recent favorite. I could easily slurp down a dozen to myself as long as I have my truffle ponzu mignonette.

I had a rollercoaster of a dining experience at Flora. Their cocktails were a high- delicious and unique. A huge down was that they had run out of the one appetizer we had collectively as a table been drooling over since we first sat down. We pushed through that buzzkill and enjoyed a few appetizers- the meatballs (yum!), the burrata (not that impressed), and shrimp cocktail. The appetizers are small, so if you come hungry be prepared to order a lot.

The pork porterhouse entree served with ramps and grilled nectarines was the biggest hit and the burger was the biggest let down. I love a house burger that has something distinctly unique, but this really was just a burger and fries. Nothing memorable about it.

Overall, the food was inventive and flavorful and on that alone Flora deserves four stars. Unfortunately, our server was brash and inattentive. She admittedly forgot to come around and ask if we would like a second round of drinks before our entrees came and was slow to bring waters to the table after multiple requests. Looking forward to returning to give it another try and explore their brunch menu.

A dim, dirty and very very loud restaurant. A very limited menu. I ordered the potato soup which was disgusting, greasy...3 days old? I didn't eat it. I ordered the hamburger which was ok, but certainly not restaurant quality beef. On the other hand, the fries were wonderful, light, fresh and crispy. Who puts sweet pickles on their hamburger? Not good.

My wife ordered the flank steak which was a beautiful piece of meat marred by a flavorless greasy sauce. She liked the steak however. I went to use the restroom, and on the way noticed the kitchen is very dirty, as is the restroom. I think they keep the restaurant so dim so you won't notice the dirt. Really really dark, had to hold the candle on the table up to the menu to read it. It was so loud in this place we got tired of saying "what?" and began to shout at each other. It was quite a relief to leave. Would not want to go back.

Should it take over 30 minutes to wait for a plate of watery eggs? I think this place has gone downhill, or maybe the owners figure they can still coast on the Bay Area Check Please segment that ran on this place a number of years ago. Plenty of other places in town will gladly take my $30 (and less!) and not make me feel like they re just phoning it in.

Great selection of food! We ordered the steak along with halibut...both were cooked to perfection...all arrived at the table fresh, hot and bursting with flavor. Our server was excellent and very friendly and helpful. The seating was great and the restaurant had a great vibe...5 star dining all the way!

It's pricey. It's cramped. But it's so worth it. Parking is a chore and you may have to walk a block or two. But again, it's worth it.
We made reservations for a Friday evening. We were seated right away even though we arrived early. Front of house is very gracious and welcoming.
We started with home made rosemary foccia which tasted more like hallah or brioche. It was thick and soft and delicious. We also added the deviled egg which was surprisingly good. I'm adding jalapenos to my deviled eggs from now on. For our entree we ordered 1/2 lemon lavender chicken and split it. Other than being on the salty side, it was very good. The char came through on the meat and veggies.
For a fun drink we ordered Long Island Ice Tea. I wasn't prepared for such a powerful drink. Admittedly, I'm a light weight. I don't drink much or often. But from the excellent taste, the barkeeper knows what they're doing.
I would reccomend Flora for a lunch/brunch or special dinner. It has a very casual vibe. Folks dress anywhere from casual to semi formal. It's Oakland. Be comfortable. And go have a great meal.

Solid choice for brunch. I was there for dinner once but wasn't too impressed with the menu or even the taste. But brunch was definitely better. Though there were a few issues with clean dishes. But service is decent and prices are reasonable for the bay area.

I came her for the first time with a friend and it was the perfect mix of great service, equality food and ambiance! We ordered 2 appetizers, the fish ribs and the melon and prosciutto. They both were excellent in presentation and their flavor did not disappoint! I actually ate both by myself because he is very picky lol. Lucky me! We both ordered the steak with grilled peppers and corn. I didn t like the peppers but I gave them to my coworker to eat for breakfast and she loved them. So they didn t go to waste. The steak was tender and I had an excellent candlelight dinner. Thanks for making my visit exceptional and I will be returning soon
