The US Pacific Fleet with headquarters in Honolulu, Hawaii. Once a year, there is an event (friendship day) that opens a part of the facility to the general public and deepens exchange. A great number of people visit every year because they can get a glimpse of the life culture of American soldiers.

The base is open to the public in March and August. The area that is open to the public is limited, but ... You can also go to American food stalls and food courts so you can enjoy the American feeling US military officials are also friendly, so this is a great event for friendship between Japan and the US
I think that the number of visitors is increasing year by year due to its popularity. We recommend admission from an early time.
Friendship Day in August is an opportunity to feel the American style life in the base. You can enjoy food stalls with volume, exhibits of full-sized American cars. Please note that the tour of popular ship ships may be closed as early as around noon. Visits to the base are everywhere, but in the midsummer the concrete reflection is strong, there are few shade and resting places. There is almost no place to sit. The shade of trees is full of people. But if you are resting in the shade, there is no meaning that you entered with a long queue and security checks after struggling. Please pay attention to hydration, take sufficient measures against inflammation and heat stroke, and visit the base not rarely entered. Hats are essential, even men have parasols, they are completely different. Many people bring tents.
I entered the base for the first time on Friendship Day. I was able to get a glimpse into the base of the U.S. military base that I usually do not know! In addition, the Tachyleg which I ate here is a volume that can not usually be eaten, and the taste is quite good!
Postscript) Yesterday I have been in trouble "Yokosuka Friendship Day" after a long time!
The Yokosuka US Army Base will be partially opened as "Yokosuka Friendship Day" to coincide with the Yokosuka Kaikuni Festival, and you can enjoy American stalls and stage shows. You can also see the "Opening Fireworks Festival" from within the base.
The purpose is to have a fireworks display, but in fact, it is to meet extraordinary food that can only be tasted here (laughs)
There are food courts and food stalls here, but what is common is the American size anyway and what is the biggest thing from what (in one person there is a large amount ...) This time American dock, pork spare rib , I challenged to beef steak, but this is enough to make my stomach seem to be broken again
Although the event has ended, the fireworks display has a feeling of failure in taking a place a little, but I was still able to watch the fireworks display for the first time in a long time ~ d (^ _ ^ o)
Every year, the base is opened as a friendship day on the day of Yokosuka's fireworks festival so you can enjoy the American experience and the atmosphere of the US military.
I was stationed there in 95 on the USS Independence. Great people outside the base. The club on base wasnt that great.Usually went to Tokyo on the weekends
I can't usually get started at all, and it's not a tourist facility. At the entrance, it says "Nobody except the people concerned". If you make a mistake, you will be immediately made a U-turn by the armed guards at the gate. Also, the car number and driver information will be saved.
America in Japan! Japanese food court is available! Pay in yen and be careful because the change is in dollars! ! But the taste. .. .. .. .. McDonald's, Subway, Thirty One and others.
This recent post from their site says a lot about the base: Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka Notification Effective immediately, U.S. service members on Okinawa are restricted to base and to their residences. Until further notice, alcohol consumption is prohibited. This includes in residences and public locations such as bars and clubs, and hotels. Additionally, U.S. service members on mainland Japan are prohibited from purchasing or consuming alcohol, on or off base.
They never pick up the phone, sometimes they unplug it, they should have a better answering service. No one should wait on the phone for 20 minutes to get hung up on
Spent 5 years here, stationed on the mighty USS George Washington, from March 2009 until March 2014. At first everything was very surreal and took pictures of everything! Then I hit a groove for a bit and then really finished out my tour exploring everything. I can now cross off many things on my bucket list thanks the US Navy and Japan. It was an honor to serve here and it was absolutely the experience of a lifetime. Get out! Explore Japan! Get lost! Don't take anything for granted or push anything to the side and say you'll get to it later. Time goes by so quickly and you'll realize, no matter how much you actually did, that there was still so much you didn't do. It's so safe, you can let your kids go off by themselves and really not have to worry about a thing. Japanese culture is so friendly and honest. Just be careful and don't forget to think about how much money you're spending, it's easy to pose track with "Monopoly money." I highly recommend this to anyone looking to get stationed here. You'll appreciate it so much when you look back at it.
Of all the military bases I've seen, aside from Coronado, this is one of the nicest.
They have a very nice NEX stocked with comfort items but also some local fare, the food court is great an has a nice buffet, the gym is nice, and the location itself is very walkable with running trails and a very active walking entrance gate.
There is a day when the general public enters as an exchange event once a year, and you can dine in the American-style restaurant inside and visit the warships.
Was there 91 to 96, went over with the Independence in 91 transferred to COMNAVFORJAPAN IN 92 and stayed until I retired in June 96, loved it , best place I was ever stationed, family loved it, daughter still talks about how much she enjoyed Kinnick school.
Graduated from Washington State University, USA. Road Zenkreuz left behind [Cultivating cultural education in 150 countries around the world. ] Founder of Rose Cross Society AMORC Japan Headquarters. The Japanese name is Dr. Yukio Yorioka, emeritus professor. There is a fact that we still receive a letter from President Obama in the USA.
Stationed there from 2002 - 2005 onboard USS Gary. The club on base was packed on thursdays (salsa night) with the best rum and coke. Great japanese neighbors. The "Hon cho" area was great but off limits at times...Tokyo is awesome...many things to do in Japan...the cuisine is out of rhis world...miss Japan so much...
Visited Family stationed there. Filled out paperwork ahead of time to stay on base and showed ID each time went in. Lots of kids playgrounds. Nice people. Cool ships. Great Launching point for Tokyo and Kyoto.
Occasionally, US military friendship events are held and admission is possible. All signs in the venue are the United States. It is a place where you can taste the United States in Japan.
Part of the US military residence is opened at the beginning of August every year as Yokosuka Friendship Day (face photo identification card). In addition, the armament facility is not released, but you can see a part such as takeoff and landing of Osprey. Armaments will be made public at the same time in the Maritime Self-Defense Force area. It also means freeing up space for viewing the fireworks display on that day. Therefore, it will be a great success until the end of the fireworks display.
You can also enjoy hydroflight performance with a water jet deck, native live performances, watching softball tournaments, and using the US military bowling alley. However, it is American food that participants are most interested in.
This is a chance to enjoy a local food court such as McDonald's and Subway, which are different from Japanese stores. There were many stalls and American BBQ style meat dishes and huge pizzas were sold. The price is equivalent to the price in San Francisco (slightly higher).
I tried McDonald's hamburger. It is a style that adjusts by yourself using ketchup or mustard for something that is not so seasoned like the United States. I thought the sweetness of the pie was strong and close to the local style. I think you can experience the United States a little.
There are several Japanese vending machines in the residential area.
The public toilet is also American size.
These multiple activities are part of the Yokosuka Kaikoku Festival. To commemorate the opening of the US Navy Perry to Yokosuka Uraga area, succeeding in the new development of the Asian market (steel industry, industry, finance, and port of whaling), and Japan as an unopened new market It is a festival.
Every year in August, US military facilities are released on Friendship Day. There are also stalls for American meals such as ship release, pizza, and steak. There is also a bowling alley in the facility
