We had been following this place on Instagram and had a chance to try it out. The line was out the door but moved quickly enough. So worth the wait! One of the better meals we have had in a while.

Go for a grilled fish sandwich - and don't forget the carrot habanero hot sauce. Their sourcing is fairly transparent, as well.

Sometimes there is a sizeable line, so I'd recommend ordering beforehand or preparing yourself for a wait.

I really wish I had had a positive experience, but both times, such a disappointment! In Mill Valley we bought half a pound of halibut. When we got home it was such a small cut, we decided to weigh it- a quarter pound for $19!
Yesterday we stopped to get tacos. My yellowtail taco was completely undercooked. Raw on the inside. I had to cook it once home. When I spend $36 on four tacos I expect it to be delicious and cooked to perfection. It seems like they must be good at times, its too bad my two experiences have been so bad.

My wife and I had an incredible experience at Hook Fish Co! We were in town for a long weekend and spent 2 of our 3 nights getting take out here. We tried different options each time (burrito, fish & chips, tacos and a bowl) all of which were super delicious! The entire staff were very knowledgeable and great at answering any questions we had. We'd make the trip back here whenever we're back in San Francisco! Delicious food and great people, it's a must!

This is such a good gem in the outer sunset. I love how it's run, the environment is very welcoming, and the menu is focused on where fish are grown, caught, and shipped. The food is great as I had the catch of the day sandwich (rockfish) and classic fish and chips. The fries are thick cut and well seasoned, while the sandwich is a great blend of hydration, crunch, zing, and spice. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Short story: really tasty and really pricy.

Some of the better fish I've had in SF. The poke is great but probably costs double what it should. That said, all seafood in SF is overpriced so if you're gonna get gouged, do it here.

Awesome little restaurant, if you in SF set aside a visit to the beach and use this place for lunch/dinner. The food is fresh its always busy and it's very good value for money. Limited seating inside more outside on the sidewalk, very casual dinning environment with the occasional surfer walking past.

FOOD POISONING. I ate here on Wednesday 9/25 with a friend. We both ate the ahi tuna poke and had food poisoning symptoms both that evening and the following day. Vomit, severe stomach cramping, achy body... Worst of all, I emailed the restaurant the following day (since they apparently don t have a phone number you can call), and no one ever acknowledged my email or ever responded. How s that for great customer service? Pay $45 to eat food that makes you vomit and you don t even get an apology. Major bummer since we are both Sunset residents. Never eating here again and warning all my friends not to unless they want to pay a bunch of money to get sick.

The freshest fish tacos with a variety of different fish options! Topped off with a warm and friendly staff, a good selection of local beers and a nice mix of indoor and outdoor seating. Make sure to try the halibut!

Fish tacos, salad, and beer, is $16. I m glad to boast about our neighborhood because we have places like the casual Hook Fish Restaurant and fish market. As a retired commercial fisher, I m confident in recommending it. Andy and his crew are perfect hosts in an eclectic setting a block from the Pacific Ocean and across the street from the famous Three Fish Studio, check it out.

Not sure about others, but during this pandemic I usually stay in during the week, and then go shopping or get takeout on the weekends. The other day I tried a new spot for me, Hook Fish. I was intrigued by their menu, previous reviews, and just their emphasis on seafood sounded good to me.
Street parking is not terrible, but maybe a little luck is involved. They are in a residential area, so I guess it depends how many residents are at home.
I didn't realize until I walked up to the business, they take orders over their app, you can't order at the window. Good to know, as I would have ordered from my car, then walked up.
I ordered a poke burrito, and also a fish sandwich, which I upgraded from their default fish selection. They also offered a hot sauce, which I'm glad I accepted - really good flavor, not extremely hot.
I ate the poke burrito when I returned home, enjoyed it. A couple pieces of fish had some white sinew attached, but otherwise it was really a good non-traditional burrito, I'd put it above the sushiritos I've tried in the past from other places. I think poke has more flavor, and works better in a burrito. And I used their hot sauce with every bite, which complemented well.
The fish sandwich, I saved and ate later that night for my dinner. Warmed the fish in the microwave, and then placed it back into the sandwich. Flavor-wise, I really liked this as well. Nice cabbage slaw, as well as a mayo spread and some cucumber in the sandwich as well, good combination of flavors. And of course, I used their hot sauce again as I ate this.
Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase here. Only thing is I felt the prices were slightly high, I would have been happy paying $15 for that sandwich, rather than $17. But I think I would add this establishment into my rotation every few weeks, it is a quality place.

Tried the tacos and they were very good. Only drawback of this place are the high prices for the amount of food you get. The fish tasted fresh, but still was on the expensive side of sunset lunches

Fantastic food, staff and vibe- highly recommend! I recommend the halibut tacos. The fish and chips also looked really good. At peak meal times there is a bit of a line, but it moves quickly. Indoor and outdoor seating available.

Small shop with sustainably caught fish. They have the location and even the best that caught each. Their food is tasty and they have a small outdoor area to hang out and eat. They're clearly passionate about what they do and how they do it.

I didn't have high expectations, nor was I hungry, but omg! I ordered I believe it was a salmon burrito and I was blown away! It was amazing, and I ate the whole thing! We will be back! Thanks!

Wow. Wow. Wow. This place is Amazing. Ordered online mid July 2020 for pickup due to covid 19 restrictions. And the fish and chips were so good. Best I've had in America. And good enough to compete with my favorite fish and chips restaurant in Scotland. This place is pricey but well worth it. Wish I took a pic to remember the food LOL

5 first time I was there (mind blown). 3 yesterday as I left just thinking about how much I had paid for so few choices. It was just after 7p and most things were sold out. But, the crab sandwich wasn't and I sprang for that (along with buying fish burritos for friends. Crab sandwich was a dissapointment - def not for $20.

Will I go again? YES!! But I'll try to go a bit earlier next time, because paying too much always leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

P.S. 5 (hundred) stars for their carrot habanero sauce. So good!

This is a hip joint in the outer Sunset that serves day-of fish, so about as fresh as can get, and it is good. Crab cakes were delicious (and their house made tartar sauce is great), fish tacos and burritos were fresh and not over stuffed, good balance of fish with other ingredients.

Price wise, I think they are on the more expensive side (we're talking a couple bucks more than you'd expect to pay per item), but not outrageous considering it is fresh fish and ingredients.

Seating wise, it's a lottery. If you're coming at peak time, you could be waiting up to 30 for a spot to open up or as quick as a few minutes if you aren't picky about the bar.or table in or out side. Decent for 2, gamble for 3-4, wouldn't consider anything 4+.

Enjoy!

Guacamole and poke were great. Grilled fish was fresh and well cooked. Not much more you can ask.
Be aware than room inside is limited and outside can be somewhat windy and cold even on a nice day.
