Film Streams: A Nonprofit Organization Dedicated to the Art of Film
Film Streams is a nonprofit organization based in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area that is dedicated to presenting and discussing film as an art form. Founded in 2007, Film Streams has become a cultural hub for cinephiles and movie lovers alike, offering a diverse range of films from around the world, as well as special events, discussions, and educational programs.
At its core, Film Streams believes that film is more than just entertainment – it's an art form that can inspire and challenge us in profound ways. By showcasing films that are thought-provoking, innovative, and socially relevant, Film Streams aims to foster a deeper appreciation for cinema among its audiences.
One of the unique aspects of Film Streams is its commitment to community engagement. The organization works closely with local schools and community groups to provide educational opportunities for young people interested in film. Through programs like "The Cinemateca" – which offers free screenings of classic Latin American films – Film Streams seeks to broaden access to cinema beyond traditional audiences.
In addition to its regular programming, Film Streams also hosts special events throughout the year. These include filmmaker Q&As, panel discussions on social issues related to film themes or topics such as race or gender representation on screen; retrospectives on directors or genres; live music performances paired with silent films; outdoor screenings during summer months; among others.
One example of this was their recent screening series called "Forever Young: The Films Of Alfonso Cuarón," which showcased some of Cuarón's most iconic works such as Y Tu Mamá También (2001), Children Of Men (2006), Gravity (2013) among others followed by Q&A sessions with experts who discussed his work from different perspectives including cinematography techniques used by him.
Another notable event hosted by Film streams was their annual fundraiser called "Feature VIII" where they screened two movies back-to-back at two different theaters followed by an after-party featuring food & drinks from local vendors along with live music performances.
Overall, if you're looking for a place where you can experience cinema beyond mainstream Hollywood fare while also engaging with your community through thoughtful discussion and education initiatives - then look no further than Film streams!
