Far Ventures: Building Startups from Scratch in Cape Town, South Africa
Far Ventures is a Startup Studio that specializes in building startups from scratch. Based in Cape Town, South Africa, Far Ventures is one of the leading hubs of African tech entrepreneurship. The company has a team of experienced entrepreneurs and investors who work together to create innovative solutions to some of the world's most pressing problems.
At Far Ventures, we believe that entrepreneurship is the key to unlocking economic growth and creating sustainable solutions for communities around the world. Our mission is to empower entrepreneurs by providing them with the resources they need to turn their ideas into successful businesses.
Our Approach
At Far Ventures, we take a unique approach to startup building. We start by identifying big problems that need solving and then work backwards to find innovative solutions. We believe that this approach allows us to create truly disruptive startups that have the potential to change industries and improve people's lives.
Once we have identified a problem worth solving, we assemble a team of experts with diverse backgrounds and skill sets. This team works together closely throughout every stage of the startup building process – from ideation through launch and beyond.
We also provide our startups with access to our extensive network of investors, mentors, and advisors. This network includes some of the most successful entrepreneurs in Africa as well as top investors from around the world.
Our Portfolio
Since our founding in 2018, Far Ventures has built an impressive portfolio of startups across a range of industries including fintech, healthcare, education technology (edtech), e-commerce among others.
One example is "Mama Money", which provides affordable money transfer services for migrant workers across Africa using mobile technology. Mama Money was founded by Mathieu Coquillon who saw firsthand how expensive it was for migrant workers living in South Africa sending money back home using traditional methods like Western Union or MoneyGram.
Another example is "Zindi", an online platform connecting data scientists across Africa with companies looking to solve complex problems using machine learning and artificial intelligence. Zindi was founded by Celina Lee, a former executive at Singularity University who saw the potential for Africa to become a hub for AI innovation.
Our Impact
At Far Ventures, we measure our success not just by financial returns but also by the impact our startups have on society. We believe that entrepreneurship has the power to create positive change in communities around the world.
One of our most successful startups is "Nomanini", which provides affordable point-of-sale (POS) solutions for small businesses in emerging markets. Nomanini was founded by Vahid Monadjem who saw how difficult it was for small business owners in Africa to access affordable POS systems.
Today, Nomanini has helped thousands of small businesses across Africa increase their revenue and improve their operations. The company has also created hundreds of jobs and helped spur economic growth in some of the continent's most underserved communities.
Conclusion
Far Ventures is more than just a startup studio – we are a community of entrepreneurs, investors, and innovators working together to create positive change in Africa and beyond. Our unique approach to startup building allows us to identify big problems worth solving and then assemble teams with diverse backgrounds and skill sets to find innovative solutions.
We are proud of our portfolio of successful startups that have had a real impact on people's lives across Africa. And we are excited about what the future holds as we continue to build new companies from scratch that have the potential to change industries and improve people's lives around the world.
