I am sure they do great work with families. But getting hired there seems to be an issue. I was offered the job and given until the end of the week to decide. I said no due to cost of living but stated I still wanted it and would keep them updated. They agreed and said it was open. I provided updates for two days and said things changed i could accept. They waited until my husband sold his motorcycle and I put money on a house 1 day later to tell me they decided not to fill it. They have no idea how to relocate people and are unorganized.

I worked at FCSA in 2 positions. The first was for about a year and I was a Case Manager over 2 of the foster homes in the community and to several kids on my caseload. I enjoyed the position and the team that I worked with. The only con was the pay for me I feel that for someone with a 4 year degree and the cost of living in Alaska, it should be higher than what it was but that is just my opinion. My boss was very helpful in times where I needed to make slight changes in my schedule and the team of ladies that I worked with were always super helpful to me as the newbie. The only reason I left this position was to become a therapeutic foster parent myself with FCSA.

In this new position as a foster parent I can say that I have felt supported from FCSA on all ends. I love how they provide respite for foster parents as needed and how they provide therapy to the children weekly. I also like how they are given goals to be able to work on and how Pre-Covid they had the BHAs take them out into the community to work on these goals. They also have quarterly meetings to update progress and come together as a team to see the next steps for each child and how to move forward. I also love the precautions they took during COVID to protect employees, kids and families. I really don t have any complaints and have been with them (in both positions) since 2018. There are lots of training opportunities and supports available 24/7. So if there ever is any after hours emergency, you know exactly who to refer to.

No control over kids, shove candy and junk food at them during/before/after appointments, video game babysitting. Therapist decided to tell my foster child that Santa isn t real when he started talking about Christmas (100% no therapeutic reason for it - should be a household discussion imho). Manipulates the kids and puts them and others on the spot. Entire experience has been/is uncomfortable and disappointing.
