I would give this resort more than 5 stars if I could. Absolutely every aspect was top-notch. Every employee you encounter is exceptionally courteous and friendly - they really go out of their way to ensure that your stay is special and memorable. Sure, this isn't the cheapest resort, but you will absolutely leave your stay feeling that you got your money's worth. This was my first stay at the resort, but I can't wait to come back again soon!

Very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms were a good size and cleaned often. The bathroom was nice minus the shower. Not enough water and pressure. The pool and hot tub were nice. The gym was very well equipped with equipment. Overall very nice place.

Stayed a couple nights for our honeymoon. It's outside our regular price range, but it was worth it for this weekend. Everyone was exceptionally helpful and made sure everything went smoothly for us!

Course layout is very challenging and well designed, but extremely overpriced. It was helpful to have a caddie. Great practice facility. Facility is well maintained, but there are no views of anything besides houses, so this was disappointing. Staff are extremely courteous and friendly. It was a good one time golf experience, but not likely to return.

First night...Magnificent!!! I have not gone to bed yet but if the service continues to be this good and attentive, no to mention a GORGEOUS property, this will be my favorite hotel. I have traveled extensively in my life and The Grand Del Mar has taken the spot for 'best hotel' period!

We had an amazing one of a kind experience at Fairmont Delmar . We enjoyed the world class spa and food is outstanding. All the rooms are very very luxurious, spacious, suite-like & grounds are meticulously kept. We felt like we had the place to ourself , but learned they were full capacity! Definitely will be back next time we are in San Diego !!! There is absolutely nothing negative to say about this property.

I just tried to cancel my reservation for a (2) night stay and they refused. Call them (2) days before my arrival and they said it was a 7 day can policy. Still charging me one night stay. ($545). I will now have to stay there for one night. It just what you would expect from a 5 star hotel. Just a shame to start off a short trip with a negative.

The Grand Del Mar is not the same since Fairmont bought it. The Amaya Restaurant was more elegant and the menu had a better selection. The staff has changed a lot, and the stay is not the same. The rooms are still nice. The glasses and plates at The Amaya Restaurant seem very inappropriate for the ambiance.

Definitely had points where the service truly went above& beyond even what would be expected of a 5 star resort. The food was excellent at every venue we tried (Amaya, the pool, room service), and the spa was top notch- although I'd expect that considering the prices. However, they really need to do something about signage or at least give guests a resort map & orient them during check-in. We spent the first few days of our trip getting lost trying to make it to the lobby or the pool & we weren't the only ones. I chuckled to myself every time I passed another guest with a confused look on their face. It took us a day to remember that the lobby was on the 3rd floor- we kept pushing the down elevator button.

Genuine and personable staff in every aspect of this resort make for a really relaxing and pleasurable stay. We had a dinner party on the wine cellar, which was delicious and very special, with attention to detail that was subtle, not showy, and made for a very memorable birthday for my husband! Highly recommend.

If you're looking for traditional luxury this is it. They get all the details right every time. Beautiful resort with top notch service. The Del Mar area around the hotel is fantastic, great restaurants, golf, and downtown San Diego about 30 mins away.

This hotel was amazing. My husband and I came for our 10th anniversary and every detail was followed our wonderfully. The staff anticipates needs like you've never seen. I cannot recommend this place enough. It's beautiful with amazing service. You can't beat it. It's a fairly pricy hotel but totally worth what you're paying...........

Played golf at the Grand Golf Club - this place is such a gem. It's the most well taken care of course I've ever played. The staff are incredible and really go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed. It is a challenging course - the fairways aren't super narrow, but you definitely need to hit them because there are a lot of hazards running down the sides of most holes. I will definitely be playing here again!

For the price of this place there were a lot of issues:
1. When we checked in room was not cleaned and contained note paper from previous guests.
2. Counter tops were dirty with stains
3. In the restaurant we were given broken glass, good thing we didn't drink from it.
I should point out that staff are excelent in their industry, but due to all issues my recommendation are low.

The Fairmont Grand Del Mar says it is a five start...

The Fairmont Grand Del Mar says it is a five start hotel, some argue that it maybe the best hotel in California.

I booked two rooms for eight nights, first room was for myself and my wife, second room was for three adult members accompanying us. Disappointingly, the hotel makes no effort to provide neighbouring rooms to parties travelling together, despite our request.

First room allocation, on the ground floor, had, at least, three separate piles of dog excrement on the grass directly next to our patio, which I encountered whilst barefoot. Please note - guests are expected to walk across grassed areas to get to the pools, so these areas should be clean. The hotel acknowledged that the rooms were used by pet owners. Since, a few members of our party have an allergy to pet dander the hotel moved us to rooms on the second floor.

The hotel management appear to lack attention to detail. In the room for three we paid for an extra rollaway bed, but only two set with two cups and two glasses, etc, not three of each. After moving us one of the rooms had significant brown stains on the carpets, which I had to request to be cleaned. On the second morning there was no hot water to the bathroom shower and faucets (only tepid) to either of the two rooms, this problem was resolved in the afternoon.

The balcony on one room was tiny, two feet wide with two chairs and a table, the balcony on the second room was even narrower, according to housekeeping, too narrow for a table and chairs, so no way of sitting outside. How an architect can design a hotel balcony with insufficient space to sit outside is anybody s guess. The family pool at 3pm on Saturday was under resourced and there were insufficient deck chairs for us. The electronics in the room are iPhone 3 generation, so all completely out of date at the time of writing. The hotel is in need of a significant update.

The Fairmont Grand Del Mar is remote from decent local eating options and they charge a fortune to eat in the hotel. For goodness sakes, $41 per person, plus tax and tip, for a fried breakfast. Since there is nothing to eat locally they know they can get away with the prices. Personally, I like eating at least breakfast in a resort hotel whilst figuring out what to do for the day, but I am not paying almost $300 for my family of five for breakfast, so our day started off with a drive in heavy traffic.

The hotel is, at least, 20 minutes from the closest interesting location (Del Mar, Torrey Pines), the traffic to San Diego is heavy and the journey a long one. The Fairmont runs a complimentary shuttle bus to local beaches, it was very popular, so much so that it was fully booked on many of the days of our stay.

The hotel staff appear to be courteous and polite. I have stayed in many three to five star hotels (including other Fairmonts) and I would say, in my opinion, that the Fairmont Del Mar sits in the middle of the three star range, apart from the prices it charges that is. I rate the Fairmont Grand Del Mar 2/5 ( for reference - I rate the Fairmont Kea Lani Maui as 5/5 ).

The hotel maybe okay if you have a passion for golf, sadly, I do not.

This hotel is one of the best resorts I've stayed anywhere. We stayed for a mother's day weekend and had a great time enjoying the spectacular pools and bike trails. Hopefully we'll all have a chance to enjoy this place soon again!

Very ornate architecture and decoration everywhere you look. Beautiful buildings and grounds. Helpful and friendly staff. Great service. Food was quite good depending on what you order. Service for lunch was good but slow. Not the place to get a quick meal, but definitely perfect for sitting outside with a nice view and taking your time with your meal. Feels very exclusive due to the gated drive leading up to the main entrance. The relaxation pool is adults only and beautifully situated away from children and noise. Huge hot tub with luxury seating. Very quiet and relaxing throughout.
