Fairfax County, Virginia is gearing up to host the next World Police and Fire Games in 2015. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on May 7th of last year to bring this prestigious event back to Virginia after hosting it successfully back in year2000.The county won out over several other cities including Montreal Canada which had also bid for hosting rights.
Fairfax County was chosen because it offers an ideal location for such an event due its proximity to Washington DC which makes it easy for visitors coming into town via air travel or train services .It also boasts excellent transportation infrastructure making it easy for athletes ,spectators ,and officials alike move around during their stay here .
The games will feature more than sixty-five sports including archery ,basketball ,boxing ,cycling ,golfing ,judo,karate,powerlifting,swimming ,triathlon and wrestling among others. The games will be held at various venues across Fairfax County including the George Mason University, the Prince William County Sports Complex, and the Reston Town Center.
The opening ceremony of the Fairfax 2015 World Police and Fire Games will take place on June 26th at RFK Stadium in Washington DC. This event is expected to draw a crowd of over 30,000 people from around the world. The closing ceremony will be held on July 5th at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts in Vienna Virginia.
