This place is cool. They give you food (if candy counts). Be sure to always ask questions and put effort into the homework and what they teach. The teachers are all pretty legit, so you know you'll be in good hands. 8.5/10 highly recommend

Took their SAT summer course and the result was a definite score increase. Tips and tricks were very helpful to do well in tests, and some even applied later on during college tests.
Tutor(first name start with G) arrived 15 minutes late for no excuse no text or phone calls. He ended our private lesson on time. My kids said he did not learned anything at all. Waste money $120 and time for two hours.
Jared Vineyard is super fun and engaging with his students. Really recommend this course if he is your instructor. Advice: Take lots of notes in each class. Best place to get "free" food.
The teachers were very helpful in answering questions, and Jared especially was helpful in explaining the reading passages and why certain answers pertained to the passage.
Helped me increase my SAT score by a substantial amount. Didn't really help me with math portion as much though, in contrast to the reading and writing.
Excel test prep is very helpful for the most part. Andrew and Derek from the English department of SAT were by far the most helpful instructors. Every class we are given candy, which almost made the lectures more bearable. The math department was pretty helpful too. Only problems I encountered were the fact that you need to type out your whole essay in order for them to grade it (and when they do, they provide zero feedback, just a score), and instructors keep changing, so you might encounter a poor instructor once in a while. You aren t alerted as to who the instructor is and their credentials in advance. Other than that, I was pretty reluctant to sign up for institutionalized, expensive prep but it was worth it for the most part!!
The biggest problem I encountered was the fact that the vending machine is very unreliable, especially for chips. Unfortunately, I encountered too many experiences in which I paid my 75 cents and was not given my Chex mix in return. It was quite the damper on my day.
The classes definitely helped my score. All the teachers are clearly knowledgeable and experts in what they are teaching. My score boosted by 200 points in just a week. They teach you several tips and tricks that I never knew before and I am so happy that I learned those tricks.
Jared Vineyard's class is very engaging, as he always keeps everyone attentive through throwing candy at them. His class is also very fun as we do work while also playing games. Time passes by much faster in his class, and I highly recommend this course.
It was great. I've never seen such type of teaching, which makes learning a fun thing.Mr. Andrew was our first teacher, who set the level of teaching at another level and then it went really well. Also Mr. Doghudge, who taught us mathematics, he really made learning math fun.
Very friendly environment and they kept me fed so that was a bonus. It improved my SAT score and the classes were really helpful. Oh, and the teachers were super nice.
Excel Test Prep is a great place to prepare yourself for the SAT, ACT, and multiple other standardized tests! I went to Excel last year for SAT practice, and over the course of a few months, I increased my score by 300. They have great instructors who have great strategies while also making class fun and memorable. Every class, they give you free candy and every once in a while, a pizza party. And even after you're done with taking classes, you can participate in Exam Club, where students can exclusively take practice tests, or go to a Group Tutorial Session for extra help. With a combination of the three ways you can study with Excel, I was able to get a decent score while having fun. One last thing I'd like to add is that personally, I thought Excel was really flexible. Other test prep companies have SAT boot camps that last the entire summer 5 days a week, which in my case didn't fit with the other things I had to do during my summer. With Excel, I had a four week (three days each week) course with classes, and then I was able to create my own SAT study plan by choosing when to attend Exam Club and Group Tutorial Sessions, which only provide extra practice instead of just repeating the same stuff they taught you in classes.
On another note if you think Excel sounds great and you want to sign up then use the code VG040 to get $25 off any course you sign up for! Hope it helps!
Review of Jared. Before this class I took test prep online and it wasn t at all working for me. This class is great and very interactive. Even with a 2-5 schedule and wanting to sleep during that time, this class is great.
Excel's Exam club is a one-of-a-kind service! Extremely useful for practicing for any standardized test, as they have a ton of practice problems to help with all test categories.
$25 off registration code : NU008 - No expiration date, good for all type of Excel Test Prep Center in class and online courses, including SAT, PSAT, ACT, SAT II Subject, AP, EIT/FE, PE, GMAT, GRE.
Overall, the class was fun, but informational. I learned a lot about specific techniques to help pace myself and finish with an ample amount of time to recheck my work. Additionally, the reading and writing techniques and rules that were taught were essential in helping me boost my scores by 200 points. Only issue is the extensiveness of the summer intensive course, which lasts all of summer. A lot of the classes seemed unnecessary and could have been focused on more workshops or reviews for the SAT subjects.
The English teachers were especially engaging and effective. However, one the math instructors did not seem to know how to manage the class and looked as if she just read off the handbook.
SAT prep course was useful for Reading and Writing but could have been better for the Essay (more practice should be provided, better understanding of the template). More prep should probably be done outside of the class to truly get ready for the SAT.
The teachers individually with each student to answer questions and discuss essay strategies, even in group sessions. The drills and practice really help us understand errors and how to fix them. The practice exams were great simulations and they helped me with managing time and accuracy.
Jared is a cool dude, taught us some SAT reading, pitted us against each other in a battle to the death of paper ball throwing, he's got some great humor.
Andrew effectively taught the material and prepared us for the English sections of the test. He was entertaining but still explained all of the material thoroughly.
Overall the prep was not very helpful. I was able to do better with simple online prep with some assistance from some books. Would not recommend. Not worth a dime.
Excel provides a surplus of material for students to practice for the SAT. The teachers were very thorough and informative, but also made the class fun. The tutors, Tarun and Ramen, also aided the class during exam review and made sure students understood their mistakes.
Jared was a really great teacher for SAT Reading Workshop. He made time pass by very quickly and made learning strategies fun throughout the 3 hour class.
The Excel course was definitely helpful and aided me in scoring well on the SAT. I would definitely reccomend that future students take advantage of the resources that Excel provides such as Exam Club and individualized 1 on 1 tutoring, as these helped me the most during and after the course.
Excel uses a variety of instructors to teach different topics regarding the SAT, each with their own unique teaching style. While some instructors might not necessarily be the best for your style of learning, most of them are entertaining people with a lot to teach. There are lots of opportunities to practice applying your knowledge, if you re not good at pushing yourself to practice on your own. I was in the intensive course, which entails a total of 9 practice tests, sometimes multiple tests in a week. Overall, it s rather informative, but testing is frequent. I do feel that their Math instruction was a lot more specific and effective, whereas their instruction with English instruction mostly dealt with vaguer tips dealing with how to tackle the test.
Incredible place. Period. My score improved massively in just a span of over a month. The teachers are great, and as a bonus they give out candy each class and pizza sometimes too. This class is totally worth your money and time. I highly reccomend this class to anyone wanting to improve your SAT,ACT, AP, or any other test scores you want to improve.
I thought that the review was useful in some ways. Going over each particular problem was useful but I feel that if the class was more disciplined and intensive then we would learn more.
