Entrepreneurship Cell, IIT Kharagpur: Fostering an Entrepreneurial Culture
Entrepreneurship Cell is a student body of IIT Kharagpur that was formed in 2006 with the sole purpose of inspiring and guiding start-ups in IIT Kharagpur and fostering an entrepreneurial culture on campus. Over the years, it has grown to become one of the most prominent entrepreneurship cells in India, playing a vital role in promoting entrepreneurship across the country.
The cell comprises a team of highly motivated students who are passionate about entrepreneurship and innovation. They work tirelessly to provide aspiring entrepreneurs with all the necessary resources and support they need to turn their ideas into successful businesses. The cell's mission is to create an ecosystem that nurtures innovation, fosters creativity, and encourages risk-taking.
Entrepreneurship Cell offers a wide range of programs and initiatives designed to help budding entrepreneurs at every stage of their journey. These include workshops, seminars, mentorship programs, networking events, business plan competitions, hackathons, incubation facilities and more.
One of the most significant initiatives undertaken by Entrepreneurship Cell is its flagship event - The Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES). GES is an annual international conference that brings together some of the world's most successful entrepreneurs, investors and thought leaders under one roof. It provides a platform for young entrepreneurs from around the world to showcase their ideas and connect with potential investors.
Over the years GES has grown into one of Asia's largest entrepreneurship summits attracting thousands of participants from across India as well as other countries such as Singapore, Japan etc. Some notable speakers who have graced GES include Ratan Tata (Chairman Emeritus Tata Sons), Sundar Pichai (CEO Google), Travis Kalanick (Founder Uber) among others.
Apart from GES Entrepreneurship Cell also conducts several other events throughout the year such as Empresario - A national level business plan competition, E-Summit - A two-day entrepreneurship extravaganza, and Kshitij - Asia's largest techno-management fest.
Entrepreneurship Cell has also established several partnerships with leading organizations such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services (AWS), IBM among others. These partnerships provide students with access to cutting-edge technology and resources that are essential for building successful businesses.
In addition to its various programs and initiatives Entrepreneurship Cell also runs an incubation program called the Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program (EAP). The program provides selected start-ups with mentorship, funding opportunities, office space and other resources needed to grow their businesses.
Over the years Entrepreneurship Cell has helped launch several successful start-ups such as Zomato, FusionCharts, InMobi among others. These start-ups have gone on to become some of India's most successful companies creating thousands of jobs in the process.
