I have been going to Elgin Academy for about 4 months and it is amazing. great teachers, great everything. but the only thing your child might struggle with is everything is moved up a grade level so if your child is in 5th grade they will be doing 6th grade work. it helps a lot

I love this school. Everyone is very nice and I am actually getting an education whereas at the public schools I wasn't. Fantastic school. Can't wait to graduate from there. I've been there 3 years and have 2 more to go.
I felt like my time was extremely wasted, everything seemed to have gone great even the day my child went to stay for a morning to see how he would take to the class. I was hesitant but was assured if they had any issues they would call me and let me know. Never received a call and when I went to pick up my child I even asked how everything went and was informed by Diane- Director of Admission that my child was great. She stated he had a little bit of a rough start but after I left the classroom he kind of got warmed up to everybody and was doing great, she even stated she peaked her head in herself a little later to see how he was doing and didn't see any issues, and supposedly asked the teacher and they said the same. From that point on I was advised to go online and fill up the application and from there we would meet back in her office to go over the contract. It didn't make any sense why we couldn't do everything all at once but I let it go. Monday comes and I still didn't fill out the application because I had more questions about the online application and was really adamant about doing everything on paper in person. When I ended up getting a call back from her the 1st thing she stated was we can't accept your child into our school, We don't think he would be a good fit. I was completely thrown off and shocked because not once on Friday or throughout that weekend did she ever express to me there was an issue. When I asked why she seemed to be really hesitant on giving me a reason, when I asked did something happen on Friday she just proceeded to say that she didn't think he would be a good fit and that one of the directors peaked their head into the classrooms and said my kid wouldn't be a good fit . I'm OK with not having my child being accepted at this school for a valid reason, but I don't believe I was given a reason at all and with that I can't fix a problem if I don't know what the problem is. If there was an issue with him that they noticed I would have like to have known so I could fix the concern moving forward but I wasn't given any clear indication of the issue or any answers at all. Observation: I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it but it's just a clear observation, they didn't seem to have a very diverse school and with a quick right off that we got I have to wonder if that was the issue.
The prep for college seemes to be going great and to be in a school that individualizes each student since everyone learns differently works well for prep. I don t understand problems with school as most of it could be directed to lower classes or first looks at the school. I know everyone at this school well and I don t have problems with any of them. Hopefully someone looks at this review as being truthful to the real ea experience and not other who simply didn t respect the process. I ll remember the class of 2020 for most of my life.
This has to be the best school I have ever gone to. I absolutely love it here. I feel that I have both grown as a student and as a person at Elgin Academy. The people are so nice and inviting - they act like they've known you your whole life. The teachers are also amazing - if you need extra help with a concept, they are more than willing to help you - in class, or after class. Elgin Academy feels like home.
