Okay Mexican food, okay service, okay drinks. El A...
Okay Mexican food, okay service, okay drinks. El Azteco is the epitome of 'Okay'. Why this is an EL staple, I'll never know.

Food is mediocre, service took 45 mins at a slow Monday lunch, too long for lunch break. You can find better in E. Lansing
There is no hot sauce nor any other hot seasoning in this place. Other than this the food is really good.
Old east lansing institution. Casual. Good food. Good drinks. Been going here for 40 years.
Great food and great drinks - love that they have Oberon on tap! Service quality honestly just depends but Peter is the absolute best.
Their staff at this location be acting intemidated and conniving . How are you going to run a Mexican restaurant with no Mexicans . That's like wearing Nikes with no swish . Skip this place
Will never come to this place again. Waited 1 1/2 hours for food. When it came it was sub-par and we never even got one of our dishes. 3 of our orders were not made correctly. 1 item we completely sent back to the kitchen because it was that bad. Never again.
One of our all-time favorite Lansing area spots to eat, drink, and spend time. Their rooftop patio is amazing. We've been going here over 35 years and still order our favorites including margaritas, enchiladas de jocoque, nachos, and cheese dip. The items are as good now as they were back in the 80's and eating here always brings back the fondest memories of my time at MSU.
The cheese dip is one of my favorites. Friendly waitstaff & fast service.
Last night me and my friends were insulted and demeaned by the manager. After I confronted him about how he attacked my friend under his breath he decided to raise his voice at me. I walked away because I feel no need to speak with the self righteous among us. The guacamole is store bought and it sucks. I ll never come back. Go anywhere else, you won t be displeased.
Sangria punch and a topopo salad are my go-tos. Never disappointed!
Horrible food quality. They need to cook their food instead of microwave their food. When your plate comes to the table super hot on the bottom it is because the food has been microwaved. I expect food cooked to order and not microwaved. I felt sorry for the wait staff because their was no one eating in their. I will never return.
Doesn t get better than this! Cheese dip is to die for! Delish!!!
Food was fresh and delicious. Good authentic taste.
Would NEVER recommend. We just left and it was awful. None of my family ate their food. I ordered the taco plate...my meat was gray and tasteless. The rice and beans were clearly old and stiff and tasteless they put cheddar cheese on the beans which is just weird. and their salsa seems like it was straight tomato sauce with some seasoning.
A legend. A college town treasure, I just miss the scary old basement venue.
The nachos are the thing, with a unique flavor that for my money I d the best there is. Rest of menu and the mixed drinks you can skip. But doing one thing great is enough.
Hella good food, and hella nice people. Try the enchaladas. Superior.
I've given El Azteco multiple tries, and every time I either order in or pick-up I get a rude server
who seems unconcerned that I'm standing alone at the counter waiting for someone to help me for 5-10 minutes! The food is bland and looks like a college students attempt to make Mexican food plain rice, hard tortillas, shredded cheese, no seasoning. Save your money and make the food yourself, I guarantee it'll taste the same if not better.
I used to go here frequently in college. I haven't been in at least 15 years. It's just like I remembered. They've probably been in business for at least 30 years. You have to do things right to stay open that long. Highly recommend.
Literally the worst Mexican I've ever had. Even the chips suck, what sort of Mexican place can't get CHIPS right?
You can order margaritas by the pitcher, if you're going to eat here I would suggest doing so.
Always great food. Ive been eating here since my days at MSU in the late 80's.
Been here a few times with friends and never got good quality food
I think they have changed the recipe of the Chili Verde sauce. Something is wrong, it tastes flat and empty somehow.
This place has the outdoor dining on the roof that you're looking chips and salsa as well as enchiladas
Poor service, dirty table and booth, and subpar food. If you're looking for Mexican food I recommend Los Tres Amigos.
This is what white people think Mexican food is. Editable but not good.
Worst lunch I ve ever had. Terrible host, food, Mgmt, service! I waited on myself.
An old favorite from college. Great food, good prices
Worst food ever. You might as well go to Walmarts frozen food section for tacos. Save yourself some time and money!
Best authentic Mexican in the area. Salsa rocks, the spicy green sauce with the enchiladas is my go to. Topopo salad is another favorite.
Great take out service tonight during the emergency in Michigan! Great staff super nice. Considering buying a gift card while you are there!
Good food but very disorganized staff! 3+ order mix-ups for our party of 8. The music was so loud neither us nor the wait staff could hear each other. Better communication and quieter/more experienced staff could help this place.
Good place to go if you aren't hungry or don't have taste buds and just want a margarita on the roof.
Ate here all the time years ago. Just stopped by while passing through for margaritas, chips with queso, and salsa. Still on point!
AWFUL FOOD, 4/5 people in the party got severely sick. Each time I've gone I've gotten food poisoning, called the restaurant to report it and they didn't seem to care and said since no one else has called in that it wasn't a concern. WORST Mexican food I've ever had.
Best food in EL...going since I was a kid and they were in the basement!!
One of the best places in EL for Mexican food. Good price ranges for every budget.
Burritos taste like a fresh out of the microwave sock. My carry out was served between two paper plates. Do yourself a favor. Avoid this place.
Just attended a wonderful wedding reception here. They did a fabulous job making it an event we'll cherish forever.
An MSU tradition you shouldn't miss, best Tex Mex in greater Lansing, great summer roof top dining, so many great dishes, but special mention to topopo salad and blue corn enchiladas.
Fun, clean, festive environment. Food is yummy and reasonably priced. Wait staff is friendly.
The staff were great and accommodated a large group effortlessly. Thanks!
All four stars are because they have great margaritas! And a nice atmosphere outside on the balcony. The food is not good. In my opinion, the quesadillas need to be cooked longer!
First time at this location after hearing many good things. Loved the rooftop. The food was very poor. Service was poor as well. Will not return.
Have gone there my entire life. Love it.. Highly recommend chicken and rice soup or frijos burrito (if I spelled that right )
El Az is the equivalent of "30+ years of YUM"--our favorite spot when we visit my alma mater!
I wanted to like it, but their food tastes like it was made by someone who has never had Mexican food before. I've never had such flavorless fajitas. :( The guacamole is also flavorless, looks store bought, and is really expensive for a small portion. Definitely won't ever order from them again... just not good.
Great food and strong margaritas. Service can be a little slow so have time if you are going there.
Had a great time at El Az. Prices are good. Food is great.
Best Tex Mex in East Lansing, great rooftop terrace
This is the go to place for great Mexican in East Lansing
I have been looking for a really good Mexican spot in and around Lansing since moving here 5 months ago. On a recommendation, I tried El Azteco. It was great! Definitely above the typical generic Mexican place here. Excellent food and the value was amazing. Two adults and four kids and we ate quite well for $40 - and we weren't trying to be frugal. This will be our #1 spot for Mexican.
Update: forgot to mention that the service was excellent. Very attentive and friendly!
What a wonderful place for authentic food. El Azteco has been servicing up delicious for 30 years. Check it out. They even have a rooftop bar where there is food service as well. So fun and airy. Great staff too. They take good care of you.
The cheese dip is fabulous and food always good. Service on this visit wasn't particularly attentive, or friendly, but we enjoyed it anyway. Great margaritas!
Fun place for drinks upstairs outside. Good margarita's chips and guacamole. Just had drinks with friends. Great atmosphere even on a Thursday night since school is out it was empty but still fun music playing.
I've been here twice now, and the food was not impressive either time. Atmosphere is okay, better if you can sit outside on the upper level. The food itself seems like it was microwave prepared, don't go in with high expectations
It has gone downhill in the last five years. Food is barely passing, and incredibly overpriced. Go down the road to Los Tres Amigos for the best Mexican in town.
