If you are deathly allergic to salt, spices, steak, grilled chicken and cilantro: This is the place for you! Bland food but great decorations. I almost thought I was in a Mexican restaurant, until I got my food. Great for 2 year olds being introduced to new foods with very little taste. 1/10. Wish I could give negative stars.

Great drinks, below average food. If you're coming here, I hope it's for the pitcher of margaritas with free unlimited chips and salsa. If you're going to eat, there's better places to go

Great spot right next to our hotel. We were not sure as the front door is small but it opens up big inside and has an upstairs.

They have some great favorites of the house. The chips are amazing and the margarita are very good.

Come early and stay late!

Lot s of fun!

Honestly, subpar experience. The food was fine, but the server was really inattentive, impersonal, and not a clear communicator. We ordered one dish, no drinks, and a side of guac for $27!!! When we ordered guac, we weren t told the price ($7). When we ordered corn tortillas, we weren t told the price ($3). Although this is all listed on the menu, the menu is virtual due to COVID and it isn t referenced after you decide on what you re eating.
It was 85 and sunny, we were eating outside and i ran out of water and didn t get any refills. The staff felt out of touch, barely noticed us, all young college students who didn t have attention to detail. Disappointing. Do not recommend.

My experience with El Azteco is that the food is invariably bland. It's not bad, it's just never been good either. The ingredients are exactly what you expect from Americanized Mexican offerings but the seasoning/spice is all too often missing.

The drinks and the location are nice. Enjoy the rooftop and a great selection of alcohol while absent mindedly shoveling some chips into your face... just don't expect to be blown away by the cuisine.

Steak fajitas meat was horrible, just fat and grizzle-never had meat so bad. Waiter disappears for whole meal, probably to avoid complaints. Pitcher of margarita is a full pitcher of ice with very little margarita, not worth $17.50. You want good Mexican food? Go anywhere else but here.

food was good, first time back in over a decade and still tastes like El Az (which is a great thing). their chips & salsa are unrivaled imo, chimichanga was amazing. flautas paled in comparison to those. the guac isn't the best I've ever tried. otherwise, service is great and food came out very quickly. the rooftop patio though is a highlight, esp since after they've made some updates. really beautiful setting w cute lights and good spacing for seating without wasting space during the pandemic times. they've got nice cozy booths as well as picnic tables and individual tables and hightop seating. the rest of the upstairs looked awesome also w the hightop seating on the other side of the 2nd floor entrance where they can open it up for a nice view of downtown east lansing. this is an east Lansing staple that I'm so glad is still alive & kicking, hopefully still continue to do so.

Really good food, generous portions, and the best salsa. Dont miss the cheese dip appetizer... it's very unusual and highly addictive! Great location, fun atmosphere and traditional music. Check it out!

Sitting outside upstairs was a nice experience. The food was mediocre. The free chips & salsa were the best thing about the food... oh & the cheesecake chimi was rather delicious. Our silverware was dirty with old food caked on it. The waiter was awesome & apologized & got use new silverware. Overall I'll go back just for the cheesecake chimi with raspberry sauce drizzled on the top.

To be honest yeah we were drunk. But we had a field day because it was our wellness day during covid and it was our friend s birthday and we came to Al Ez for a good time and they simply acted as if there didn t want us there. We tipped SO well but we just felt like the servers did not want us there. Idk we are embarrassed and don t ever wanna go back even tho we like it there........

I have been going to El Az for many years and there were occasional "snafus" I will call them, but nothing as serious as this last visit. I ordered a chicken taco and when I took the first bite, something was noticeably wrong. I opened up the taco to find a rolled up piece of paper (used to wrap silverware) and also there was no chicken. Management was apologetic and quickly replaced it. The group I was with insisted I push for free taco or extras, however for me, it was about the quality of the food coming out of the kitchen! Unfortunately that will be the last time I go there. Proceed with caution.

Mediocre food and service. I've been to this place several times over the years and it's always been with several other people and the situation is typically we can't get into or first, second or third choice within an hour or more but Azteco can seat us. There is a reason for this and I summarized it in the first sentence. Next time I'll make sure I have reservations at other places.

This place isn't good for more than a few drinks and the complimentary chips and salsa. The food is more of an insult to Mexican cuisine than Taco Bell, they at least season their food at Taco Bell. I got the Topopo sald. Which was a mountain of shredded lettuce on the smallest plate they could find, including chicken without any seasoning whatsoever with soggy chips and congealed cheese at the bottom. It was borderline gross. The person I came with ordered enchiladas which also just looked like a plate of congealed cheese and also tasted bland. Often its the case that restaurants with ugly presentation can back it up with flavor but not here.

I've dined in a couple times and ordered out a few more. Prices are a really good but the food is just ok. Beans, rice and beef are over salted. Margaritas are good. There are other Mexican restaurants in the area that are better.

The rooftop was a cool area. However, that was the only good thing about this place. The food was mediocre at best and the service was absolutely terrible. I had to go up to the bar to get refills on drinks because Zach, our server, never came to back to the table. Take your business elsewhere. I know I will be.

My girlfriend and I went here to eat but ended up walking out before we even placed an order. My girlfriend ordered a meal that came with guacamole mixed in and asked to have the guacamole removed and put on the side instead. Our waitress told us that we would be charged extra if we asked to not have the guacamole mixed in with her meal. She said there was nothing she could do about that and asked if we wanted to see the manager. We spoke to the manager and explained that my girlfriend has a food intolerance and cannot eat guacamole in her meal. The manager said that charging extra to remove the guacamole is just "how it is there" and that he could not help us. We thought that was just ridiculous and ended up leaving to go to Omi Sushi. I cannot comment on the food at El Azteco since we walked out before ordering, but the service is horrible.

Good service horrible food. Waited 2 hrs for horrible food, didn't even have hot sauce. Never been to a Mexican food place that don't carry hot sauce. Definitely need something to make that food better. Horrible food

Really bad Tex-Mex. Had a sangria that was mostly soda and fruit juice and quesadillas that were microwaved instead of grilled. This will teach me not to go Mexican in Michigan again.

Delicious and fun as always. I have gone to El Az since the 80s and even though it's now in a different spot it is always a treat to make a special trip. Recommend the cheese dip and chimuchanga

This is the best 'Mexican' (tex/mex) around Lansing. Service can be spotty, at times very bad, but tonight was wonderful. Best to avoid the busy times as they often seem under staffed. But the food is worth it....most of the time.

The food is good, though the options are limited. It's the service and tiny plates that are problematic. Both times we visited one order was wrong for the table, they didn't bring napkins or silverware until we asked for them AFTER our meals were delivered. And the plates are far too small. The enchilada sauce spilled over the side and onto the lap of a person in our party. The waiter was completely inattentive after several mistakes, making no effort to improve our dining experience - refilling our cups would have been nice. I'm willing to give them one more chance ... Only because my husband really likes the weird cheese dip and these are easy things to fix with an attentive manager.

Counted 4 flies on our table. Stale chips. Sticky table. Watery salad and iced tea. Bland chicken. That about sums it up. Either it has gone down hill or i had aweful taste when i was younger.

A friend and I went here one day. We had read a lot of the reviews and it seemed like a lot of people did not enjoy their experience that much. However, we were in the mood for Mexican and we decided to go despite what we had read. I was pleasantly surprised and based on my experience I would guess that the other bad reviews are result of that problem most review sites have, which is that people who had a bad time are vengeful and that people who had extraordinary experiences did not feel compelled to go online and write a review. I had not an extraordinary time and I did not have a bad time. Given that the restaurant was busy, I'd say the experience was better than what we could have hoped for. I'd recommend it to anyone who is in the area who is looking for Mexican cuisine.
