Do not build with 8Homes, go to another builder. I recommend AV Jennings, and Metricon as l have built with them, and are great and very professional, unlike 8Homes. Please do not give them your money
I strongly advise against choosing Mahercorp/8homes for your first construction. Our experience was highly stressful and negative. Despite opting for 8homes due to affordability and design layout, the actual building process fell significantly short of expectations. 8homes entered voluntary administration in April 2023, teetering on the brink of liquidation. Construction came to a halt for 5-6 weeks, but payments continued to be deducted from our bank accounts. Following voluntary administration, Mahercorp's only proposed solution was to request an additional 6.5% variation on top of our existing FIXED CONTRACT to proceed with the building. If we refused this Deed of Company Arrangement (DOCA) meant our house could not be completed by them. Some of the pre and post-administration experiences we faced included: - Constructing our "dream home" stretched to 20 months, far beyond the promised 9-month timeline. - We postponed our wedding due to the unprepared state of our house and we consistently received misinformation about the handover date. We were given four different handover months: November 2022, February 2023, March 2023, and July 2023. We eventually moved in October 2023. We were promised our house would be completed before our wedding which took place in June 2023. - Regularly visiting the house to seek updates, as the promised weekly updates turned out to be untrue. We had to keep 8homes informed about the actual progress and point out discrepancies where things they claimed were completed were, in fact, unfinished. - Incurring an additional 6.5% charge on our total contract price despite being in the final stage. - They attempted to schedule our PCI (Practical Completion Inspection) date before our private inspector could evaluate the house, fearing that the inspector would uncover numerous issues. We insisted that our private inspector assess the house first before confirming the PCI date. This strategy is employed because, at the conclusion of the PCI walkthrough, they ask you to sign a document listing all the issues you've identified in your home. If your private inspector identifies additional or significant issues after the PCI date, they won't be addressed as they were not documented earlier. - Handover date rescheduled due to missing copper for our heating/cooling unit the day before handover was going to happen. The company was informed about the theft months ago but falsely claimed to have resolved the issue. They had to dismantle a wall, repaint, resand and replaster to install the missing copper which delayed our house by an extra 2-3 weeks. The delayed handover led us to seek emergency rental assistance, resulting in an extra $3,700 out-of-pocket expense. Mahercorp initially agreed to cover this cost but has not reimbursed us for their negligence. - Rectifying issues in our house felt as difficult as extracting teeth from a nail. The attempt to fix our render, particularly the front of the house, has been undertaken approximately 4-6 times. Unfortunately, with each "attempt" to fix it, they not only fail but also worsen the situation, causing additional damage to the render. Their standards are a complete joke, characterised by extremely low and unacceptable quality. Now these are just a few of the challenges we encountered during our build with 8homes. I highly advise against choosing this company, especially for your first home. Putting all our savings into a company that lacks empathy and assistance was a significant mistake. They prioritize progress invoices, additional interest rate charges, and staff compensation over customer satisfaction. Save yourself the stress, tears and headache - I wouldn't want anyone to go through the same experience we had with them. SAVE YOURSELF from this ongoing nightmare!!!!!!!!!
Exceptional Customer Service and a Hassle-Free Building Experience. I recently had the pleasure of working with Eight Homes, a construction company, and I must say that my experience was nothing short of outstanding. From the moment we stepped into their office, we were greeted with warmth and professionalism. However, it was the incredible customer service provided by Paige that truly stood out. Paige, our dedicated sales consultant, went above and beyond to ensure that we were well-informed and satisfied throughout the entire building process. She took the time to explain every detail, patiently answering all of our questions and addressing any concerns we had. Her knowledge and expertise made us feel confident and reassured that we were making the right decisions. One aspect that really impressed us was Paige's assistance with colour selection. Choosing the right colours for our new home can be an overwhelming task, but Paige made it a breeze. She listened attentively to our preferences and provided valuable suggestions, guiding us towards choices that perfectly aligned with our vision. Thanks to her expertise and keen eye for design, we were able to create a space that truly reflects our style and personality. What truly sets Eight Homes apart is their commitment to making the building process as easy and stress-free as possible. With Paige's guidance, we felt supported every step of the way. She was always available to answer our queries promptly and efficiently, ensuring that any concerns were addressed promptly. This level of dedication and attention to detail made us feel valued as customers and gave us the confidence to trust Eight Homes with our dream home. I can confidently say that working with Eight Homes, particularly with Paige's exceptional customer service, has made the decision to build our house an easy one. The professionalism, knowledge, and genuine care demonstrated by the entire team, especially Paige, have left a lasting impression on us. I wholeheartedly recommend Eight Homes to anyone considering building their own home. With their outstanding customer service, attention to detail, and a team that truly cares about their clients, they have exceeded our expectations. I will not hesitate to recommend Eight Homes to our friends and family, knowing that they will be in the best hands possible. Thank you, Eight Homes, and especially Paige, for making our dream of building a home a reality. We are grateful for the exceptional service and professionalism we experienced throughout the entire process.
Another nightmare! From my last review, they saw my review and sent out someone to tell me that most faults were my responsibility to maintain. However, they sent this nice man to try fix the floor sliding and creaking issues. the floor creaked less for a few months then came back again and even louder this time. I contacted 8 homes(Mahercorp) again today and got a respond saying that they had a record from the previous visit that everything was fixed and no further action required! Yes, it was a patch work and the issue came back as the issue was not resolved. Kim Borg rudely replied and told me that I need to contact their contractor directly now and explain to them what's happening?!!! WHY AM I CONTACTING YOUR CONTRACTOR MYSELF? I DIDN'T PAY THEM. I PAY 8HOMES! My warranty is with 8homes!! She gave me the name of the company to contact which is a different one that she has given last time. Also She just gave the name of the company but did not give a contact details or anything else, United Timber Floors, I tried to look for this company and only found a facebook page. Tried to call but no answers. Kim needs to be trained on how to communicate with clients and stop brushing off responsibilities and being lazy!! I haven't said it all, if my floor doesn't get fixed properly this time. I will go through the rest of the issues that I haven't talked about!!
Mixed emotions !! We have recently completed our investment property with 8 homes. We have very mixed emotions about the whole experience. Chris who we first dealt with in the display home was fantastic, all the ladies in the office that we dealt with were amazing. Special shout out Aylin who has done an amazing job trying to fix and tidy our site supervisors faults. We absolutely love the layout and overall finish of the house , but it hasn't come without its struggles and frustrations. Our appliances have that many issues that they seem to have come from a scratch and dent sale. But this was not the main factor. It was like getting blood from a stone to get our site supervisor to even contact us let alone , do his job properly. The whole process was so drawn out that it will now affect our next build which ultimately has cost us a lot of money. Unfortunately we won't build with 8 homes again, as we were planning to with our next property. Management needs a good shake up, and the site supervisor ( ours in particular) need to be held accountable for their poor management, poor communication and lack of professionalism. It's such a shame because like I said we had every intention of building with them again.
Our experience is going worse with 8 Homes. I thought it would be good to share with other people too. They put the slab within time and after that, it took 57 days to start them to start framing after too many excuses. The worst time started then when the framer found that the slab was bigger than it used to be. My first concern, what was the role of supervisor till then? They could not figure out the bigger slab for 57 days. After that, the manager came into the action and it took them around a month to figure out the rectification plan. I have asked the manager to change the supervisor but he didn't hear me. Again I sent him an email to change the supervisor but no response. After the rectification outcome, they decided to break the slab partially and I did not agree with that as this is our first dream house and asked the manager why can't they build the with the bigger slab(as they already mentioned that there were no issues underground) or break the entire slab and start the process again but he didn't respond my question in detail saying they have the authority to choose what they want. After seeing his email I was thinking to raise a legal matter but this is our dream house lets not do that even the building is delayed by a few months. Also, I was the first to ask for progress every time. Not sure what will happen next but personally me and my partner are fully frustrated with 8 Homes. Also, I asked my few friends about the email response from different builders and I showed my emails to them, they were like "are they talking to their colleagues or customers ?". I also work for a company and I know how to communicate with customers but some people from 8 Homes should know what customers are. They might think they are senior professionals but in front of customers, they are no one. I was the one to give a 5-star rating before construction. The reason for that was the above-average work from all the team and $100 rewards from 8 Homes. Also, their sales team said to me that they have got the technology to build the double-storey house quicker than the single which was refused by their manager. I hope this review will also be seen by top management from 8 Homes such that first home builders like me would not be frustrated with the builders.
My new house have many defects but they do not fix. Supervisor at 8 homes is very rude & not respond to me. They take money & now they dont help me. I wait nearly 5 month for permit then 12month to finish home and still have many problems. No good.
Didn t build with EightHomes because we eventually liked some other layout from another builder. But had initial discussion before buying a plot. Specifically spoke to Emily Gibson & she was wonderful to say the least. True asset for eight homes. Extremely professional & proactive. Walked the extra mile to check if our plot might have overshadow issue for double storey with back office within one afternoon on the day we were about to buy the plot. This 5 star rating is only for Emily. Both me & my wife wanted to thank her from bottom of our heart for the effort she had put in for couple of days to make sure it s the right plot for us. Way to go Emily & all the best.
eights homes and urban edge are same company, and I know someone using Darebecca to the house inspection finding many faults and defects that they have to move out of the house and took a year to rectify. . tradies they engage seems unprofessional and has place building materials, moving fences and refusal to correct despite warning when they did not own that land and have absolute rights to use them. Called the office and they behave as they have whims and fancies to think they can use that land to their convenience, which means till they complete their job .
Did not use Eight Homes, but they are building next door to my land. I had a temporary fence up to prevent illegal dumping. When visiting my land I noticed that Eight Homes was using my block to access their build. I had told them this was ok provided they close the gate when they left. Upon subsequent site visits, I noticed that they had not closed the gate but had removed panelling of the fence even more, left a mess of building materials in my block and had damaged the fence by driving their vehicles over it. I called their office a couple of times to ask them to fix it and leave the site as they found it and they said they would but then never followed through with it. It seems that their "site supervisor" very rarely goes to site and they have no regard for neighbouring properties. Looking at their own build site it seems they are quite unprofessional and just slap the house together using the cheapest labour they can find.
Poor communication and support throughout. They just brush you off when you come to them with queries. We have been using an independent building inspector for these issues ( Darbecca ) and after the report was sent 2 months ago, we are still waiting for these issues to be rectified. missing roof tiles for over 2 months, so when it rains, water come flushing through the home which is meant to be at fixing stage. Water damage plaster inside home. Missing brick work, missing first floor polystyrene sheets, which plaster is exposed as lock up still not completed, installed wrong kitchen, (sprung last min changes - privacy window in our biggest bedroom and changed as extra 1200 when all they had to do was relocated it to the rear like the other room. Missing insulation through one side of the whole house. On top of all this, communication is very minimal and when they do come, they have no answers to any of your questions. This is not the way to run a business and if you are considering building and fear the headaches that come with it, I would consider choosing a builder who knows how to communicate and actually cares about their customers and not treat as if you are just another file moved on top of the other. We are yet to move into our house and the excitement has been taken because of so many problems and now lack of trust in this volume builder.

Please do some research before using any builder, I regret that I have done with 8 Homes. I never thought of leaving any review for 8homes. My experience wasn't great. My pre build experience was great but it's get worst since construction starts. Very unprofessional coordinator, non responsive, didn't even do the job properly, supervisor was telling lie & I have to contact them again & again, I have to contact the office for update. I don't think I will build again with 8homes again. The construction started first on my block and still not finished, the next doors has completed the construction who started a month after me. It was my first home & I was so excited to see the progress and move in but now I am just over it & sick of that, I don't even care now because the experience has been crape. Ali
