Very friendly staff with lots of tips, did everything they could to help on our holiday. I ve never had hotel staff before that were so helpful.
The hotel itself is nice and cosy, the room is smaller than expected but these are traditional Amsterdam buildings, and the rooms are big by these standards.
Nice light breakfast every morning with juices, croissants, fruit and other treats.
Location wise, the hotel is perfect, right next to all the popular museums and plenty of restaurants and shops nearby.

Very bad experience. We travelled in a group of 13 for the Amsterdam marathon. The rooms are tiny and the additional bed in a three bed room is more fitting of an infant than an adult. The double rooms are not designed for two adults. The breakfast content is bread, boiled egg and jam. Service very poor, over charged us for the rooms and would not listen to our complaints regarding the room we got. Stay away!

Great hotel. Small but cosy rooms. The staff is very helpful. We left a six pack of Heineken in the loby on a chair near the elevator. Please give it to some one who will need it in the future... kind of "pay it forward"
Thanks

I am still unclear what "urban" means for this hotel, the location is quiet and ideal for museum lovers, also the connection to the public transport, first we had a room below ground level, after complaint then in the third Floor - here was the view io, the rooms are very small and basic, but clean, the prices are unusually high (650, - for 2 pers and 3nights), but for Amsterdam probably so normal! The breakfast is also to accept (bread, rolls?)

We had a nice stay with Max Brown. We have been warmly welcomed. Our room was clean, fresh warm and cozy.
The bathroom was also clean, with thick towels. Nice that there were care products available.
The beds were fine, and neatly made. And the next morning we were happy with the breakfast that we could have in our room.
The icing on the cake was that our room was decorated with streamers and balloons in honor of my birthday.
We would love to come again. Because this location is a great base for exploring Amsterdam on foot.

Small rooms, but a warm and welcoming staff. A very good value for money in a very expensive city. A perfect location to visit the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, both about 300 meters from the hotel.

Very rude staff who knocked on our door at 8am twice and failed to give us a room for 4 people which we'd paid for; we were stuck with a room for 2 people for the entirety of our stay. The windows didn't open and the toilet leaked. Very disappointing.

Hotel well located, in the museum district, pleasant and welcoming staff, hearty breakfast.
Extremely poorly insulated and a little dated in the common areas, will be suitable to spend one or two nights.

The hotel is very special, there is a record player. Hotel location is very good. Although the corridor was small, the room was big enough, but the bed was soft for me. The hotel staff is very nice. The overall style is mainly retro and family style. Look at the picture!

Really lovely hotel and excellent staff all around. The bar and social area are very nice even though they are quite small. This also goes for the rooms.

The only letdown would be the breakfast. I m missing my bacon and scrambled eggs.

The hotel couldn t have been in a better location. You are in the center of everything and yet it s nice and quiet.

Very nice hotel, so modern and at the same time old fashioned. Staff very friendly. The only thing that bothered me a bit is that the rooms were small and the windows could not be opened completely. Is very close to many museums, otherwise you can reach everything from the hotel with a short walk.

Hotel located near the museum area, not too far from the central area.
The rooms and bathroom somewhat small but clean.
The breakfast is not too varied but I felt it was enough and the staff that attends this area are very nice, they also have fruit at the reception and it is appreciated.
Something that could be pointed out is that the heating is always too high.
I recommend it.

Nice staff, small dusty rooms.

Nice staff, small dusty rooms.

Our room (standard double room) was small, but quite efficiently furnished.
The bed is high, you can put the bags underneath and thus has at least a little more space.
The room was dusty, especially in the corner by the bed and between the boards from the small table.
On the first night someone came to talk to me about it, he assured me to take more care the next day that it is clean.
The day after that, everything was still the same.

The breakfast was very small.
Despite stated warm dishes, there was only hard boiled eggs.
Nice was that there were also peach slices and other fruit.

All in all, I would not recommend the hotel despite the good location.

Very warm welcome.

Very warm welcome.
Nice little cozy room but lacks a wardrobe to store things.
Very well located: Van Gogh Museum, shops, Jordaan district, train station, ...
Strongly advised

It is located a tad far from the downtown area. Dam Square or station there is a circulation. The rooms are small. In our case it was one of 4 and ugh. With the beds there was no room. Small bathroom. Breakfast with little or almost nothing to choose from is in the basement. What I liked the most was the decoration of the room.

Small but very stylish and modern room. Unfortunately not a breakfast buffet, but a vegetarian lunch package that was brought to your room. Location great. Staff was always available and friendly. As an upgrade to a hostel or similar to recommend.

We liked location of hotel. And though we stayed only one night, it was a bit annoying that soap holder wasn t working well and on the walls in bathroom there are many dark spots of mold. And it was a little bit dusty in room. And it was a little bit weird with breakfast, we got it in our room, but then we just went down and had it there because we wanted to have coffee and more food (what we got in room you can see in pictures). Cappuccino was great.
I mean, it s a nice place still, but those small details created that image. It s ok to stay there for one night I think, but I wouldn t like to stay there longer. People are nice there, by the way. Like this review if it was helpful :)

As it's name suggests, the hotel is very close to the main museum square. Rooms are small but cozy and the room has some cute features/decorations. The walls are fairly thin so there's potential for noise, but not a huge problem (in a similar vein, leaving the window open can be noisy in the morning). Speaking of windows, there are no screens and no air conditioning from what I can tell, so it can get warm. Breakfast is pretty good although the area is also small. Stairs and hallways are narrow but there is a small elevator. The rooms are cute but the hallways could make for a decent horror movie set as a result of multiple mirrors. Overall a good experience and a pretty cute hotel.

Had a wonderful, perfectly cared for stay at Max Brown Hotels on the Museumplein where dogs are more than welcome. Fantastic staff, delicious food in beautifully presented rooms, nice bed, characteristic furnishings and a real welcome with dogs. Huge recommendation!

The staff at Max Brown is wonderfully accommodating. Perfect location as it's near everything. The only reason this is not 5 star is for seniors or handicapped there are steep steps (the stoop) up to the lobby, and down to a wonderful below ground breakfast area. This is not unusual for the narrow older homes in the heart of beautiful Amsterdam.

Unbeatable.

Unbeatable.

Both the perfect location, the comfort of the room, and especially the friendliness of the staff.

When I return to Amsterdam, it will definitely be my first choice for accommodation.

Well .. the location is great, but for 250 per night the quality is not right. The toilet would be built in front of a wall, something I have never seen in my life and certainly not for 250 euros per night. We have not booked the cheapest room-how do they look like?

Way too expensive.

Staff very helpful, providing very good local advise and local meal recommendations. Well connected for trams, and canal hop on and off services. Room was a small but perfect boutique affair with a window seat and excepitialally comfortable beds. Reasonably priced hotel bar and breakfast was a very tasty in a predominantly Dutch affair.

Beautiful hotel in a lux area. Breakfast is successful, the hotel is clean, because it is next door to Vondel Park, you can have a wonderful walk before breakfast. There could be a bottle of water in the rooms. Also the small water at the hotel is 3 !!!!
You can buy the same size of water as 0,28 cents in the market.

Lovely hotel with excellent friendly staff. Rooms are quirky, as is the whole hotel. Really nice and central for Amsterdam and its main attractions. Nothing more than 20mins walk. My only quibble would be that the bedroom was too warm but that is probably because I am used to a colder environment

The staff is very polite, the hotel is clean and the beds are comfortable. Located in a great part of the city as well. The rooms are small but that is expected in Amsterdam. I would highly recommend this hotel!

The Hotel itself is rather small. But it's very urban and interesting. The room I had was REALLY big. But the bathrooms are a little small. Especially the toilet thingy is small. But as always: it fulfils the requirements! Stairs and lift are rather small. But this makes the hotel lovely ;) You can get breakfast there - it's good. All over: a nice and urban place to stay with a lot of wood in there. Atmosphere is pretty good. The hotel employees are VERY friendly. I would recommend that hotel.
