My child was enrolled with EducationWorks for their 2019 Summer Camp Program. Originally the location was set to Hartranft School in North Philadelphia, but due to construction they relocated to John Welsh Elementary school, also in North Philadelphia. Listed on the flyer it said the program was from 8:30am to 5:00pm, two days before camp started they called stating the flyer was incorrect and that all children would have to be picked up by 4:00pm.

The school they chose to have the camp in was incredibly hot, even with air conditioning running in the classrooms and fans going, I was notified multiple times, sometimes at only an hour s notice that I d have to pick up my child early due to the sweltering heat in that school.

The only person I ever really had contact with was the site director Ms. Erin, mind you there were 6 staff members interacting with the children. The teacher never addressed the parents regarding the things they learned etc. The staff helpers never addressed the parents either. It was to the point that none of the parents knew the names of any of the staff working with their children. When it came time to pick up the children, they would have them in a group inside of the school with 2 or 3 staff members present. You literally just went in grabbed your child and left, they didn t make you sign in or sign out, nor did any one check your ID or anything. Quite honestly any adult off the street could ve walked in, grabbed any child and left and it would have been allowed to happen. There is no sort of safety precaution. In the 6 weeks, the program lasted there were several additions/subtractions to the staff. Mind you, you were never introduced to these staff members even though they were working directly with the children.

On Friday, July 26, 2019, My Husband was notified by Ms. Erin that our child was getting suspended for 2 days, however the paperwork my husband was given said 3 days. What was he being suspended for you may ask? For TALKING while adults were talking and talking to other children during quiet time. Our child is 6 YEARS OLD. It was said multiple times, he had to be redirected because he was talking. Again TALKING not because my child was causing injury or harm to other children, he wasn t being argumentative, nor was he disrespecting adults. He was TALKING again he is 6 YEARS OLD. What 6 year old child does not need to be redirected? My husband asked is this protocol and he wasn t given a response. So we would like to know is this protocol for EducationWorks programs? The suspension document that my husband was asked to sign at the time of pick up, had many blank spaces and inconsistencies. Its clear that protocol was made up at will.

That being said. We would not send our child to any EducationWorks program, and do not recommend it at all due to their unreliability, unprofessionalism and lack of clear written protocol and direction.
