Edgewood Brookland Family Support Collaborative: Strengthening Families and Building Vibrant Communities in Washington DC
Edgewood Brookland Family Support Collaborative (EBFSC) is a non-profit organization that has been serving the families of Washington DC since 1996. The organization's mission is to strengthen families and build vibrant communities by providing a range of services and programs that promote family well-being, child development, and community engagement.
At EBFSC, we believe that strong families are the foundation of healthy communities. We work with families from diverse backgrounds to provide them with the support they need to thrive. Our programs are designed to address the unique needs of each family we serve, whether it be parenting education, mental health counseling, or access to basic needs like food and housing.
One of our core programs is our Early Childhood Development program. We recognize that early childhood is a critical time for children's development and future success in life. That's why we offer a range of services for parents with young children, including parenting classes, developmental screenings, and playgroups.
We also offer mental health counseling services for individuals and families who may be struggling with emotional or behavioral issues. Our licensed therapists provide evidence-based treatments such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy (TF-CBT). We also offer group therapy sessions for parents who may be dealing with stressors related to parenting or other life challenges.
In addition to our direct services for families, EBFSC also works closely with community partners to build stronger neighborhoods in Washington DC. We collaborate with schools, faith-based organizations, government agencies, and other non-profits to create opportunities for community members to come together around shared goals.
Our commitment to building vibrant communities extends beyond our direct service work as well. We advocate at the local level on issues related to family well-being such as affordable housing policies or access to quality healthcare. We also engage in research and evaluation to better understand the needs of families in our community and how we can best serve them.
At EBFSC, we are proud of the impact we have had on families and communities over the past 25 years. We have served thousands of families, providing them with the support they need to thrive. Our work has been recognized by local and national organizations alike, including being named a "Bright Spot" by the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans.
