This theatre is in a nice location and had good service and great staff
The theatre is tired, but crowds are typically pretty thin vs other theatres close to downtown (eg Chinook), so usually a nice option to avoid lineups & crowds.
Wonderful place to bring my children extremely friendly staff !!
Much cheaper than other theatres, but the seats are not very good.
International Film Fest. Eau Claire is my favourite theatre in Calgary - yes I even like it more than Globe!
The least busy theatre in the city with blockbusters. Often the cleanest. They often play retro films which is a nice change. Loved watching the original Blade Runner here.
Big nostalgia factor, but in the sad way. I remember when this place was THE spot in town for a movie night. There was an arcade next door, and every screening was sold out. Now, you can usually find a ticket last minute, and it's feeling it's age. You won't find the big, comfy recliner seats, bar service, or anything else fancy here. It still does what it needs to, but it's not what it once was.
Very run down theatre. Need a major face lift; I wouldn't return here. Dark and dingy, paint and floors chipping. Then on the way out in the ladies', bathroom, was a mysterious black goop coming out from the drain, leaving 2 stalls unusable. With so many other modern, clean and easy to get to locations, don't bother.
Awesome place you can have quality time with kids as they have a nice play area.
My wife and went to see "The Woman Who Loves Giraffes" as part of the Calgary International Film Festival. We were not disappointed. The film was wonderfully shot and the story of Ann Dagg is an amazingly typical canadian story. And when Ann Dagg came out as part of the Q&A it was fantastic.
Best Canadian documentary of the year.
Cheap theatre that used to be a former I max location. I like it but there.
Not what you'd expect from a Cineplex. Not sure if all the auditoriums were like this, but the one I was in was the old style with all chairs on the same level. Just old, without the old time prices.
Decent service, theatres are old and kind of uncomfortable though.
Good old theater especially if you can watch a film in Cinema number 6 which is an old IMAX screen.
Overall quite good. The theatre is definitely showing its age and lack of modern theatre amenities, but the theatre itself was very clean and the staff were friendly and professional. I would definitely consider seeing a movie there again if I was in the area.
Good staff. Good popcorn. Admission smaller than usual but is older place and seating is not recliner or stadium. But crowds are smaller and they run mainstream and independent and lesser known films not just blockbusters. Worth the trip into downtown.
My fave theatre! Never so busy that it's unpleasant.
Go to a different theater if you have a choice,, this theater will disappoint you if you have been to Sunridge or Easthills, it's very old , cup holders are still on the seat in front of you very uncomfortable seating, it's just old and archaic.
Movie was great but accused by staff as wanting double the candy. Paid for didn't get it, came back for it and behind my back he says to the another staff member. I know we gave it to them. But he was wrong. Don't judge mobility issues as screw you over for more that's just bad for business.
Wonderful location, very central, good staff, clean and has IMAX! Underground parking adds to the experience when the street parking is all taken
Okay, we went to a poor movie (FB2) but the theater was good (3D!) and there is a popcorn butter dispenser free of charge!!
Clean and small cinema offering some films which are less main stream in addition to the mainstream offerings. The cinema is not too busy which makes it great for a visit.
Good place for watching movies away from the crowd at Chinook.
Really retro style theater. If you want top of the line seats avoid this one. It has its charm though. Nearly empty and you're allowed to bring beers into the theater which is nice. Great place to see a new release that's less crowded. Popcorn was fresh!
A good quiet theater with cheap underground parking even on the weekends. Even better if you can go on a Tuesday for discounted movies. You can fill up at the food court in the market before the show
This is my favourite movie theater in Calgary. You sit in a chair and they throw magic at your face for up to 2 hours at a time. And you leave with popcorn in your belly and in the folds of your shirt, and a head full of escapism.
Seriously old seats. Is there a way to clean the theatre?
I'm conflicted about this theatre. I both love it and loathe it at the same time.
Starting with negatives: As is standard for theatres these days, this place also has overpriced snacks and no refills for a fountain drink. The seats are brutal and get super uncomfortable after an hour. Although my biggest pet peeve is the pre-movie display - full on annoying advertisements from your favourite chain fast-food and car dealers. On one specific occasion, my movie was set to start at 9:30 however only actually started at 9:50, because they were running commercials. The other theatres I've been to don't run nearly as many ads.
All that aside, positive include: Location is great for all of us living downtown. The mall is a bit of a dump but this place seems to keep the lights on. This location is always less crowded than any other and I've never been in a sold out showing. I also see quiet a few special showings here that the other theatres tend to skip, including recently seeing the three extended Lord of the Rings films, which was a fantastic experience barring sitting in the dreadful seats for four hours.
Overall, this theatre is good. Not great, not bad. I hope they don't succumb to closing like the many other stores within the Eau Claire Mall
With cinemas, it's usually about what you've seen rather than where you've seen it, so I've only a couple of things to remark on. The most important angle to this cinema is that it's not a bad choice for premiers or very popular films. The reason being that come evening most people are hell-bent on getting OUT of the downtown core, and honestly sometimes this theatre gets overlooked or forgotten. It's smaller than most, but it's not always how big things are but what can be accomplished with them.....right ? Anyway, it's clean and fully equipped to do its job, which is all I really care about. So, if you're like me (chances are, you're not - celebrate this)and the thought of sitting in a room surrounded by all manner of specimens has your skin crawling and your brain already working on some world-class excuses, don't forget Eau Claire - it's never been as busy as the anxiety dreams might indicate ;)
Visuals seats and sound were barely ok with seats so uncomfortable that it affects your movie
Really liked the steep seating and oversized screen
It's a nice clean theatre. Employees very friendly. Awesome venue for CIFF.
Seats do not recline at all.
Not a very impressive theatre, it's clearly getting a little dated...and the shopping centre it's in was pretty sad. However if you're looking for a quiet theatre that's not too crowded and you don't care about all the fancy extras, this is the place for you.
Prices are usual Cineplex. Seats are their standard comfortable enough. Pre movie ads and trailers last thirty minutes. It is accessible from most of the downtown core.
This Cineplex location is pretty small and it's usually not very busy. Sometimes the movie you want to watch isn't being played here and you have to go to a larger location like Chinook.
Very nice cinema. But, If you want the big name movies and IMAX, then this is not the theater for you.
Very old style. The chairs aren't very comfortable but its durable.
Location is decent and staff are friendly but the seats themselves are terrible. I couldn't wait for the movie to finish as it was super uncomfortable.
Clean theater, friendly concession and always a great experience
I like going here but the Cinema needs an overhaul, it s too old. Screens have scratches on them, seats are not comfortable, etc. But there is an upside, not many people come here so it is often empty and it s fun having a cinema to yourself...
The worst cinema I have ever been in my life. No headrest and cheap uncomfy chairs. Never ever try to visit.
Good, big screens. Try not to get the first few rows though, they're too close to the screen.
Parking is great for bikes. For cars, not so much: it's downtown!
They dont make the price dummy they only get snack bar stupid
Eau Claire Market's Cineplex Odeon theatre is a historic landmark. The theatre has been here ever since Eau Claire Market was built. The market used to feature fresh and local produce in the centre aisle in large long tables and the theatre upstairs. To me, it was reminiscent of rural downstairs meets technology upstairs. Though parking can be an issue at times, free parking after 6:00pm allows for availability when seeing the evening shows. If you time it right you can still get some fresh munchies or custom coffee in the downstairs novelty shops before your movie. Seats are comfortable though a bit cramped and they are starting to show their age. Be careful if the old style cup holders in front of the seats instead of between when you walk by or there will be a big splash...overall a fun place to visit.
Cineplex at Eau Claire is kind of run down and tired out, but not without it's own 'blast from the past' charm. It brings me back to how movie theatres used to look and feel in the 90s. Regardless, its clean, they serve popcorn and play movies... everything you need in a movie theatre.
The good: you can turn up right before the movie starts and get a great seat. They also start movies between 8pm and 9pm on the weekdays which is a perfect time to catch a movie. In addition, they often play movies you won't see at other cineplex theatre. The bad: old school seats and often the sound will bleed from one theatre to another.
Not a bad theater, just a bit old and worn seats. Typical theater.
This is my favourite cinema in Calgary. Not many people come here and I was able to watch Blade Runner 2049 alone on opening day and the theatre wasn't crowded one bit. They sometimes play not common movies as well for fans.
I love this theatre because it is never overly crowded, so we can always find good seats. It could definitely use some updating, but in general we like it a lot.
I like the Eau Claire theater, quiet and comfortable.
Seats are hard on your bum. Wouldn't recommend sitting through a long movie. But sure what it is about this place but everytime I go a movie here and if the theatre is half full or fuller there is always someone sitting there talking throughout the movie.
Very poor theaTre for sound... Another reason for Eau Claire to be bulldozed to sub sea level is to sub Sea
The equipment are old than other places. Only serve regular movie in here. But the people is the fewest of other place's cinema.
The movie was great. This theatre was pretty except the seats were a bit uncomfortable.
This is my go to Theatre, it always has great art-house showings and part of the Flashback Movie series. Staff are fun, friendly and funny, and the manager there always goes above and beyond to make sure everyone enjoys the movie going experience.
Food selection is not as robust as the larger Cineplex locations, but always hits the spot.
Looking forward to the re-opening of this location post COVID-19
Well... it s an old cinema.
The cinema is big enough to accomodate a lot of people. Chair upholstery was very dirty and not well maintained. The cinema screen was higher on an average eye level. Just hope no one s going to sit in front of you if you want to enjoy the movie. Good points were the staff, always new popcorn (not full of kernels),lots of parking after 6pm, and within downtown limits (great proximity if you re in PIP park or just enjoying downtown Calgary). Lastly, they re the only cineplex that plays really good indie films like PARASITE!!
Convenient location, but small, outdated theatres and limited show times.
I like this place best. You don t get the huge crowds like at other theatres.
It is rundown movie theater. This place should be shut down long time , I went there because it was only place in Calgary that was screening live theater program which I was interested .
Nice movies but seats are disgusting. You may not want to sit on them for scare of bugs and other insects. It is old and needs renovation.
This theatre is a little older and still has a 90s vibe to the decor. The theatres are a little run down compared to other blockbuster theatres in the city, but it's spot downtown can't be beat. It's in Eau Claire market which is kind of a nice place to hang around while you wait for your movie to start. I saw the Sailor Moon musical here and it was insane.
This theatre is such a gem. Really amazing location, not modernised but that's what makes it shine.
Clean and quiet. I enjoy the significant lack of children in this theater. I wish theaters would go back to turning the lights off during trailers
Very good cinema. clean and neat
It screens all current movies, the big mainstream ones, but also independent and low budget movies.
A big plus is, that they also show older movies like when they have an anniversary like 30 years of Batman or 40 years of Monty Python's Life of Brian.
It's a bit older, and doesn't have the best sound or picture quality. And the seats aren't great. But I love coming here for a few reasons.
First as a transit user, the central location is great. I also like that their late shows start by 9pm most of tge time, instead of at 10:00-10:30 like most cinemas, as I can see a night show, be done at 11, and transit is still running to get me home. Only theater in the city with showtimes like that.
They also get a lot of independent and more obscure films, like the Oscar contenders, that don't usually open anywhere else. So that gets me there. The staff are generally very good and pleasant. The wait time can be a little long if a lineup forms, but I always show up about 30 minutes early. I always enjoy coming here.
Never real busy. Quiet, clean and comfortable atmosphere. Seems to appeal to the older generation rather than the teenagers.
Terrible screen, seats. The next door screen can be heard. Upgrade or close it down!
Great location, but a bit outdated. Could do with a technology and decor refresh.
It's a movie theatre, nothing special. But they support the Calgary Film Festival, so that's good. Otherwise: same movies, same over-priced concession, same, same.
