Earthwatch Europe: Working Together to Protect the Natural World
At Earthwatch Europe, we are passionate about protecting the natural world. We believe that by working together, we can tackle the threats facing our planet and create a sustainable future for all.
Our mission is to engage people in scientific research and education to promote a sustainable environment. We work with individuals, communities, and organizations across Europe to inspire action and drive positive change.
Our History
Earthwatch Europe was founded in 1971 as part of Earthwatch Institute, a global environmental organization dedicated to promoting scientific research and education. Since then, we have grown into an independent charity with offices in Oxfordshire and Scotland.
Over the years, we have supported hundreds of research projects across Europe on topics ranging from climate change to biodiversity conservation. Our work has helped scientists better understand our planet's complex ecosystems and develop strategies for protecting them.
Our Approach
At Earthwatch Europe, we believe that everyone has a role to play in protecting the natural world. That's why we offer a range of programs designed to engage people of all ages and backgrounds in scientific research.
One of our flagship programs is Citizen Science Expeditions. These expeditions give volunteers the opportunity to work alongside scientists on field-based research projects around the world. Participants learn about cutting-edge science while contributing valuable data that helps inform conservation efforts.
We also offer Corporate Sustainability Programs that help businesses reduce their environmental impact while engaging employees in meaningful volunteer opportunities. Our team works closely with companies to design customized sustainability initiatives that align with their values and goals.
In addition, our Education Programs provide resources for teachers looking to incorporate environmental science into their curriculum. We offer professional development workshops for educators as well as classroom resources such as lesson plans and activities.
Our Impact
Since our founding over 50 years ago, Earthwatch Europe has made significant contributions towards protecting the natural world. Our work has helped:
- Identify new species: In collaboration with scientists, we have discovered dozens of new species of plants and animals.
- Protect endangered species: Our research has helped inform conservation efforts for endangered species such as the European bison and the Iberian lynx.
- Combat climate change: We have supported research on topics such as carbon sequestration and renewable energy that help mitigate the impacts of climate change.
- Engage communities: Through our programs, we have engaged thousands of people in scientific research and environmental education, inspiring them to take action to protect our planet.
Our Future
As we look towards the future, Earthwatch Europe remains committed to promoting a sustainable environment. We will continue to support cutting-edge scientific research while engaging individuals, communities, and organizations in meaningful action towards a more sustainable future.
Join us in our mission to protect the natural world. Together, we can make a difference.
